Its a shame that Gatiss seems thinks all fans are die-hard ones (I’d prefer to say ARSEs in the current context) as this definition leaves me out in the cold. John Hurt’s comments about fans seem to be closer to the mark.

31 October 2013 at 15:50 #19734By the way, if anyone is still hunting for tickets for the Celebration, the latest contest is in this week’s Radio Times Magazine. Prize is two tickets on the Friday.
31 October 2013 at 15:57 #19735Anonymous @@bluesqueakpip – I don’t know if I properly and publicly thanked you for your previous announcement about the lottery for additional DW Celebration tickets. It’s only because of you that I was able to snag one and come myself – so, thank you.
And PS @craig – that new ‘Search Forums’ option with your upgrade is simply marvellous. 😀

Tom Baker’s finally going to watch the show he starred in for seven years, or at least the 50th anniversary special…

4 November 2013 at 20:01 #20033http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/Mark-Gatiss-on-An-Adventure-in-Space-and-Time
An Adventure in Space and Time premieres on BBC Two on Thursday, 21 November at 9pm.
4 November 2013 at 20:47 #20035@wolfweed – that broadcast date sounds suspiciously like they’re going to try and cram everything into Anniversary Week.
It’s also a ‘post-watershed’ time slot.
4 November 2013 at 20:52 #20036@bluesqueakpip – It’s probably just wall to wall swearing…
4 November 2013 at 20:54 #20037@wolfweed – good, because if it turns out any of the original cast should have been playing a starring role in Operation Yewtree, I really don’t want to know.
😕
4 November 2013 at 21:08 #20039Looking at things in a more cheerful frame, every picture they’ve released emphasises how very like William Hartnell they’ve managed to make David Bradley – and young Claudia Grant is also extraordinarily like Susan.
I wonder if we are going to see those two outside of the drama-doc?
4 November 2013 at 21:13 #20041@Bluesquekpip @wolfweed 9pm is the BBC’s absolute prime time slot (and it was always said to be broadcast in the same week as the Anniversary). It;s where BBC2 puts all its top documentaries and drama-docs
4 November 2013 at 21:23 #20042@pedant – and possibly someone at the BBC’s been reading this forum and realised we’re all at the pub on Friday night. 😀
4 November 2013 at 21:24 #20043Well, possibly!
4 November 2013 at 21:28 #20044An Adventure in Space and Time is set to premiere in Australia on Sunday 24th November at 8:45pm on ABC1. The US airdate is forthcoming.
4 November 2013 at 21:32 #20045Anonymous @Is there somekind of list of countrys , that bbc has sold the rights for the 50th special ?
I saw today on a program HRT2 , croatian nacional television , on 23.11 from 1720-1800 doctor who
now that is not the right run time , 40min , or the right time when it should be on , 17 00
Is there somekind of studio show in that time maybe , or an older episode planned on bbc1 at 17 30 (16-30 at uk) ?
i hate HRT they never deliver , i will have to watch on a laptop , thats no fun

Peter Davison on 50 Years of Doctor Who (at the TV Choice Awards)
4 November 2013 at 22:49 #20056There’s two shows in that list I haven’t heard of….
5 November 2013 at 08:52 #20065Neil Gaiman has written the final story for a series of e-books based on each of the Doctors. His is about 11 & pre-marriage Amy. He says he doesn’t have the time to write a full episode for Capaldi yet but would like to see his new monsters on the screen
Once I’d finished telling my story, in which I create an incredibly creepy Dr Who villain or possibly bunch of villains called The Kin, there was definitely part of me who went ‘You know, wouldn’t it be fun to put this on screen?’ Wouldn’t this be fun to see if I can actually make people wee themselves with terror in real life?
Full Story – http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/24802880
5 November 2013 at 09:29 #20066That’s a really nice speech by Davison. Love the dig at Grade, and his description of AG – “the lunatics had not only taken over the asylum, they’d rebuilt it!”
@bluesqueakpip – I agree with @pedant, it’s a prime time slot. Re Operation Yewtree – We’ve already had JNT 😮 (but hopefully the programme won’t go within years of him) and Katy Manning’s dalek photoshoot (didn’t see that at the time!! 😯 ). More likely “William Hartnell swears!!” LOL. Tho you can bet your best sonic screwdriver that the DM and the rest of the sub-pond press will have digging for dirt on DW as a high priority this year.
Looking forward to it. And it’s nice that they considered us being at the pub on Fri when they scheduled it 😉
Newsy things coming thick and fast now 😀

BBC America subsequently announced that the film – which they co-produced with the BBC – will première Friday, November 22, 9:00pm ET/PT.
5 November 2013 at 12:19 #20073‘The film’, being ‘An Adventure in Space & Time’…
5 November 2013 at 16:35 #20079That is very funny regarding the press release. Looking at the time of your comment, I have a suspicion that you may be one of the first people on the internet to mention it!
The Guardian has a deal to feature extracts of the books, and has heavily featured them on its books site, and has only recently uploaded its extract.
I’ve been waiting for printed versions of the stories released this year, and I may as highlight that cthe ompilation featuring all of the short stories is released on 21st November. First listing I’ve seen is Amazon, at £7.19 (other retailers are available, etc.)
The 50th Anniversary Anthology features the stories (in order by Doctor):
Eoin Colfer, Michael Scott, Marcus Segdwick, Philip Reeve, Patrick Ness, Richelle Mead, Malorie Blackman, Alex Scarrow, Charlie Higson, Derek Landy and Neil Gaiman.
5 November 2013 at 16:36 #20080As I’ve been checking into the BBC Media centre, they’ve uploaded the short description of the Day of the Doctor which will get used in preview magazines and the rest. It’s official, it’s out there as other sites are listing it, so I may as well give a link to it to those who want to read it.

Canadian broadcaster SPACE have now confirmed that they too will be broadcasting An Adventure in Space and Time on Friday 22nd November at 9:00pm ET.
The Culture Show: Me, You And Doctor Who
22 November at 9.30pm on BBC2
Lifelong fan Matthew Sweet explores the cultural significance of the BBC’s longest running TV drama, arguing that it’s one of the most important cultural artefacts of modern Britain. Put simply, Doctor Who matters. He’ll examine how the show has become a cultural force in its own right and tell the stories of some of the unsung cultural heroes, who pioneered its innovative music, design and storytelling.
6 November 2013 at 22:54 #20106Probably this has been posted somewhere else on the forum already, but DW Twitter reports the trailer finally appearing this Saturday just before 8pm.

Is there a substantive difference between an official spoiler and an unofficial one ? Both do the same thing IF you want to be unspoiled
