Hello @Katharine

I agree entirely with you about Deadwood. I saw it as a brilliant rendition of the growth of civil society in the United States. It was (as I saw it) a Hobbesian world that was “nasty, brutish and short” that (over the course of three seasons) slowly lurched towards a civil society. I loved it!

I agree entirely that it should…[Read more]

Just to echo others, Two Cathedrals, the S2 finale is simply magnificent. But you do have to get there first.

Other joys are:

1) Writing out a character but never, ever mentioning it despite it making no sense at all;

2) Emily Proctor’s utterly brilliant recurring turn as Ainsley Hayes (makes me sad she got the CSI Miami gig or we…[Read more]

@Katharine Just to join in on The West Wing conversation. I think that the last 6 episodes of Season 2 display perhaps the best dramatic storytelling ever shown on TV. Ever… Really… I think it’s that good.

Of course, you have to watch Season One and Season Two to get there. But believe me, it’s worth it.

It kinda lost it a bit afterwards but…[Read more]

@purofilion – there is a shake up at a critical moment that both broadens and deepens the Buffyverse.

@Katharine – I fully endorse all that puro says about the West Wing. you can get the boxed set for less that £50 now. Totally worth it.

Though I suspect that once puro gets into the swing of the show she’ll want to race through all the seasons in quick order. That’s usually what happens.

Apparently the official SMG fan site had a blanket ban on all shipping discussion (before Television Without Pity disappeared up its own fundament my user id was ShippingIsEvil, so obv this amuses me greatly). The old Usenet groups were often rendered unusable by moist 15 year-old girls of all ages and genders.

This possibility dawned on me earlier this morning, but you beat me to it. The implications are deliciously timey-wimey 🙂

I don’t care if its an underlying theme from Moffat or not (ie Faust). I am really enjoying learning about Faust!

Ha ha, I knew I was on thin ice the second I clicked on Wikipedia 🙂

No Gretchen character in Marlowe then? And no question about Faustus’ ultimate damnation? … Hmmm. Don’t think I’ve got any way out of this. Seems I’m (quite unambiguously) wrong. (Sorry everyone!)

Still. Onwards and upwards… Could still be a Faust theme going…[Read more]
