HAPPY CANADA DAY!
2 July 2017 at 04:36 #601752 July 2017 at 04:10 #60172I thought that episode was crazy good! There was a feeling like the Magnificent Seven of brave strangers come to help a village fight an evil force after their children. Nardole the computer genius ,amoung other talents, shone as a hero from start to finish in this and he lives to fight another day. I will really miss him.
Bill also gets to be a hero and although willing to die beside the Doctor to save the children and herself she is released from her cyber-prison to go off with the Pilot Heather. Heather says she can make Bill human again if she wants and can even be home for tea. She is a pretty powerful alien. So Bill is safe for now.
Missy after switching sides a few times also has an chance for redemption and she chooses it without reward and without witness but that chance is lost when the Master kills her. Will the Doctor ever know that she chose to stand with him or will we be the only ones who know? I found her ending the most tragic because of that.
Everything Peter Doctor did was wonderful tonight. He broke my heart at times, I actually shouted at the TV when the cyberman was blasting him. The scene where he tries to convince the Missy and Master to stay will be with me for awhile and his words should be set in stone as words for all people to live by. The scene in the Tardis when many of his companions called out to him and he woke up repeating past Doctors will have to be rewatched again and again as I geek out. There was just so much happenning, I need to mull it over.
Anyway, I really liked it, can you tell?
30 June 2017 at 00:54 #59992@wolfweed Thanks for the link it was very cute. So many Doctors and companions in the Tardis its a good thing it is bigger on the inside.
30 June 2017 at 00:34 #59990@blenkinsopthebrave I like your bonkers idea about time going back and the Doctor using this to save Bill. I know that it can’t happen but I have to say (tongue in cheek ) that I watch a show about a man who travels through time in a blue box, a Time Lord who doesn’t die but regenerates to an entirely different person, he has been known to travel with a robot dog and humans and damn it if time travels backwards in the Whoniverse than who am I to argue.
29 June 2017 at 04:06 #59913So I just watched again and I have to say that it was an excellent episode with great stuff from all the cast. Still liked the comedy at the start and I think it was in such sharp contrast to what was to come next that we were even more shocked. ‘ What! he shot Bill!”
And then there is Missy who cannot understand why the Doctor likes humans or even Nardoles, she just can’t get how he can be friends with anyone but her. Jealousy of these relationships is a major factor in Missy’s behaviour towards the Doctor I think.
Even though I know that Razor is the Master and I looked very closely while watching I still couldn’t see him under that disguise. Good job on the makeup! Also the wardrobe people who made Bill’s clothes look so authentic for a place with no resourses , patched together, holey and ill fitted with that bulky heart replacement jutting out. The sets were also great with the bright and clean upper level contrasting with the old ,gray, dirty bottom level. I found them very convincing right down to Razors little abode with his kettle and desk and TV. It was a good looking episode.
I can’t wait to see how this story ends but since it is the end of another series and Peter and who nose who else well ………..maybe I can wait cause I don’t like goodbyes.
25 June 2017 at 04:10 #59599@thane15 Not too many spoilers for me either so I had some great shocks and surprises.
By the way , how about the return of the Master’s beard? Is that the classic evil genius beard or what?
25 June 2017 at 03:55 #59597That was a thrill ride for me from start to finish! The Doctor regenerating but fighting it,what! Then Missy and her assistants and some very funny lines and great banter. Oh that Missy, Doctor Who indeed. I was shocked when the blue man shot Bill leaving a gaping hole that you could see through. Great special effects.
I get sucked into the TV when this show is on so I had no idea that Razor was the Master till he revealed himself, what? He and Missy at the same time, now that is scary.
Poor Bill, that was terrible and so sad when she kept saying “I waited” and the Doctor looked devastated, wow is all I can say.
I need to watch this again and maybe again to catch all I missed while trying to figure out what I had just seen, and I am excited yet slightly scared of next weeks show.
24 June 2017 at 03:25 #59517Just one more sleep (as the grandaughter says) and some of our questions may be answered, while many more new ones will probably crop up. Being an old softie ,I really would like to see a “happy ending” for everyone. Bill goes off to live a long life with Heather, Nardole leaves with a full oil can to have whatever wierd adventures he has, Missy beats up the mean old Master and the Doctor has a good regeneration happy in himself and proud of the time he was “The Doctor”. But I am also an old fool and none of that good stuff will happen. Too bad cause I really like happy endings.
19 June 2017 at 21:08 #59318Hi all ! I am a little late but I watched and I liked! This was a fun history episode with Romans (very modern in their attitudes) and Picts (girl power) and standing stones ,what more do you need? The guest cast was great as usual and I had no problem with their young ages because I think people grew up and became “adults” a lot younger than we do now. Add to that a low life expectancy and I think we would see more young people than seniors back then. The Doctor and Nardole are my favourite couple , I love the banter.
I enjoyed the truth behind the myth and this episode confirmed something I have suspected for awhile, birds do talk if we only listen.I look forward to watching this one again and again.
11 June 2017 at 04:08 #58894@scaryb There was the girl with the star in her eye in The Pilot. Eye like your theory and will look for more eye references.
11 June 2017 at 04:01 #5889211 June 2017 at 03:55 #5889011 June 2017 at 03:49 #58888I liked it! The Victorian soldiers on Mars was a fun idea and of course Ice Warriors had to be there too. The idea of these staunch British soldiers getting into a spaceship and flying off to Mars for riches and to claim it for the British empire and Queen Victoria was so outrageous it was good.Liked the portrait of Victoria. Anyway these soldiers stranded on another planet set up their tents and pull out the china and tea…very British. Why did the Tardis leave? She just does what she wants these days. Naughty Tardis.
At the end when the Doctor sees Missy he aproaches her as one would a wild animal and he looks like you would if you just reallized you had left the cage open and the bear is in the room with you. Move slowly and nobody make any sudden moves and startle the beast.
I suspect Missy knows more about the Doctors health than we do but even when she is concerned for him I still don’t trust her.
So it was a good episode by Gatiss but then I enjoy all his episodes. This one was a fast ,fun and a little silly like the Doctor should be now and then.
10 June 2017 at 02:32 #58829@soundworld Better late than never as me old Mom used to say. I also need to rewatch all 3 together to form a better idea or make a bonkers suggestion. For now I will only say I liked them quite a bit and that I am excited to see how they play out. I was confused by the Doctors part regen and I am so curious to see if it meant anything other than to trick us the viewers which is OK as I liked to be tricked now and then. Is he regenerating slowly like 10 did? Is he wearing a bit thin like the War Doctor?
Missy will have a hard time convincing me that she is nice but you never know.
31 May 2017 at 04:38 #58311That is very sad news ,it is always hard to lose a parent . It shows how determined he is to live up to his commitments. Poor man.
I liked this episode and found it to be a good episode with classic Who themes like an unseen mystery bad guy, a vulnerable Doctor about to be killed, a companion with a bad choice to make and another dead or on the verge of death, the earth in mortal danger. And it was a cliffhanger. Will Bill be enslaved? Will Nardole be OK? Will the Doctor save the earth? Tune in next week to find out.
My theory is that the pyramid is the Master’s Tardis.Who else is so cruely evil and yet patient enough to plan for sooo long to enslave the earth and the Doctor?
29 May 2017 at 03:36 #58197@thane15 and @momochrys The blindness thing is a tricky one to figure out,and the regeneration and healing rules are “fluid” In The Christmas Invasion the 10th Doctor explains that he was lucky that his hand was cut off while he was still regenerating so it grew back ,which sounded like it wouldn’t have if he was not regenning. So maybe some really bad injuries will only heal upon regenerating? Sorry, I am sure this only muddies the already murky waters.
28 May 2017 at 04:41 #58130@thane15 I feel your pain. My son was very chatty tonight.
28 May 2017 at 04:39 #58129I just watched and I definately need a rewatch to catch it all. My son stopped in on the way back from fishing and “gasp” talked through some of the show till I looked at him sternly and he shut up.And he didn’t catch anything! Anyway the lab scenes with the organic eating goop were good and reminded me of The Stand and I was even getting worried that the Doctor might blow up . Lots of ups and downs and I can’t wait to watch them all together without commercials.
I think Bill acts on pure emotion and is willing to make a deal with the devil to save the Doctor’s life. Clara, I think would have refused the deal because of her love for the Doctor. Clara would have done what the Doctor would do and that is to save the earth no matter the cost. Bill on the other hand sees only the Doctor, a father figure in her life and he is threatened and she wants to save him now and worry about the consequences later. Right or wrong who wouldn,t be tempted to give up eveything or everyone else to save someone you love, certainly the Doctor has. Of course all of this is just my opinion.
26 May 2017 at 02:26 #58035So the Doctor watched this episode along with the rest of us on his “device”. Pretty cool!
If none of it happened to the real Doctor then he is still safe and whole as he never really used the device to fix his eyes. Did he read the Veritas again? Is he real? Mind blown. Sometimes I wonder why a person like me who is so baffled by timey-wimey stuff loves a show about time travel.
26 May 2017 at 02:12 #58032@craig That is my favourite bonkers theory of all and I sooo hope it happens. I do love a happy ending.
26 May 2017 at 01:33 #5803124 May 2017 at 03:58 #57967I am so sorry and saddened by what happened in Manchester. My thoughts go out to all those in the UK especially those who have lost a loved one. I hope the injured recover soon. We in Canada stand united with Manchester and the UK.
21 May 2017 at 03:39 #57746This episode kept me glued to my seat from start to finish ,leaving me wanting to see more.First there was Missy about to be executed and then Nardole reading from Rivers diary to remind the Doctor to be a Doctor. The poor people who find out that they are not real but in a Matrix like world and simulation Bill clinging to her own reality till she fades away. I really enjoyed the pace and the indepth story telling and I can’t wait till next week to have some of my questions answered…I hope. Tonight Moffat ,Capaldi and the rest of the cast have made me happy.
19 May 2017 at 02:28 #57645I watched again last night and what really struck me was Bill not only calling out to her Mom but truly upset that she doesn’t answer her. I know she has talked to her Mom before and acted like she answered but I wonder if she really does or at least that Bill believes she does. I don’t know what it means but I think it means something. It was just strange to shout for her Mom to answer her rather than a cry for help.
14 May 2017 at 04:25 #57434@missrori Yes this Doctor has had a hard time. I was happy to see him get a group cuddle ,he needs it.
14 May 2017 at 04:22 #57433@pedant I just watched The Ark in Space for the first time the other day and am ashamed to say that not only did I giggle at the wormy critters but I squealed “look out for the green bubble wrap, its behind you” which brought Mr. winston into the room to see and caused a few more giggles. The helmets did have that bubbly look.
14 May 2017 at 03:58 #57431Just watched Oxygen and I thought it was very exciting and fast and had lots of dimly lit corridors and steel doors! Everything I like in a Who episode. Add mystery vaults, killer suits and space zombies and you have it all.
Poor Doctor, saving Bill but going blind is sad but beautiful. My favourite part was when the Doctor excepts responsibilty for Bills fate even if Nardole doesn’t think it is his fault. If your actions have caused a problem then even if it wasn’t intentional or your fault you still have to try and fix it,which he did.
I start watching Doctor Who and I get sucked into the TV for an hour, then emerge blinking and bemused to come here and see what I missed and it is always so much. This one like some others needs a few more viewings before I catch it all. I swear I try but I think Peter Capaldi mesmorizes me.
14 May 2017 at 03:33 #57427@idiotsavon and @blenkinsopthebrave That was probably my first ever theory, at least one I had the nerve to post so thank you so much for replying. I was pretty chuffed , probably wrong but still….
13 May 2017 at 03:05 #57369There are alot of monsters who are not really monsters in this series. Also alot of hungry monsters who just need to eat and just do what they have to do to survive.Sooooo my theory is that the Master is in the vault being protected from Missy. The last time we saw the Master he was very, very hungry because his regeneration went badly and he is insane but that is the fault of the Time Lords using him for their purposes. He saved the Doctors life( and the earth) in the end so the Doctor may feel he owes him the same and this Doctor has even more reason to hate the Time Lords and how they play with the lives of others. So I think the Doctor is helping the Master recover from his fight with Rassilon while stopping Missy from getting to him. That would be a bad pair. That is my bonkers theory.
7 May 2017 at 03:40 #57187@thane15 Your theory just “blew my mind”! Very bonkers and the Doctor has been undoctorish lately.
7 May 2017 at 03:26 #57186I liked this spooky episode and the cast were all great. Suchet was very good at being creepy, wierd and then pitiful. Bill is getting more likable every time I see her and I think she is one of my favourite companions. I liked the everybody lives moment until I remembered the other lost people…..I guess it was too late for them or I missed something, which is entirely possible. Where did those lice go? I agree with @mudlark about paying attention to the little critters when I see them in my garden. We call them sow-bugs and they do like to eat wet and rotten wood.
1 May 2017 at 04:04 #56965@janetteb @missy and @ichabod I liked the tank and the guitar and the “idea” of the sonic glasses but I love PC’s expressive eyes which tell so much of the story that I don’t like them covered up. Anyone else think the Doctor is just a little more soft and fuzzy this series? I want to give him a cuddle.
1 May 2017 at 03:54 #56963@redlemons Hi! Maybe the Doctor gave the Master the brooch for the daughter that was born but the Master ,being the Master, kept it for himself. @thane15 Moffat might be telling us through the Doctor to be prepared to “move on” when PC leaves us. Some fans have a hard time adjusting to a new Doctor and some never seem to move on and spend alot of time and energy dissing the new guy and comparing him to the old guy.
I don’t think the Master or Missy are in the vault but I have no idea what is.
30 April 2017 at 03:35 #56894Hello everyone! My computer has been ill ( all better now) but I have been watching the show and I can now say how much I am enjoying this series. This episode was like watching a BBC historical mystery which just happens to have monsters and time travelling detectives. I liked the look and feel of the fair and I could almost smell it. The Doctor seems to be enjoying his role as teacher and Bill soaks up information like a sponge so they make a great team.
Whatever is in the vault wants out. Thank goodness it wasn’t 4 knocks or I wouldn’t sleep for wondering.
16 April 2017 at 03:55 #56233Well I loved every minute of that and I have a silly grin on my face which will probably last for days. Bill was fun ,witty ,silly and curious ,all my favourite qualities in a companion. Nardole is a sarcastic little truth teller who is far braver than he acts. The Doctor is at his most “Doctorish” and Capaldi is so good I am speechless. I really felt like this was a new pilot and again I decided, like Rose and Bill , to go with the Doctor on his adventures in the Tardis.
What is in the vault? Hmmmm…
13 April 2017 at 01:43 #56133@arbutus I have been cleaning and researching my treasure all winter. I found some 1920s art-deco style jars that I am finding lids for and storing dry goods in because the shapes are so cool , the ink wells go into the collection and the rest…..? I have collected Canadiana since I was about 10 and found an old stoneware crock that was made in Alberta so some of the bottles will be added to that. Who nose?
@jimthefish Thanks for the link. It never hurts to remind ourselves to be nice to each other.
11 April 2017 at 02:50 #56077@mudlark I agree with you about recent history being interesting. Last winter we found an old dump site behind a 150 year old family farmstead in southern Ontario and dug to the bottom in layers over 5 months and found so many great things. These finds included bottles of medicines, some snake oil and some still around today and soda bottles from long gone companies. There was a fold up razor ,an 80 year old dog tag and milk glass cosmetic jars. Each layer told us about the lives of the families who lived on the farm from about 1900 to about the 1960s when they stopped dumping there. It even told us about the big whiskey drinker and smoker in the 30s and that they ate a lot of Heinz Ketchup in the 40s. Very fun and interesting stuff. We are now in search of an older dump site as the farm has been there for so long. Touching the history of your own people is very satisfying.
30 March 2017 at 02:41 #55902@thane15 I am happy that you and Mom are OK. I have been watching some of the videos of the damage to peoples homes from the wind and all the flooding. My thoughts are with you guys.
When my kids were young they would get up for school and if there was a blizzard or freezing rain they would huddle by the radio (no internet way,way back then ) and hope that they would hear the magic words “school buses are cancelled and schools are closed.” Then much rejoicing,by them of course.
@mudlark Only a few brave crocus have showed themselves here but soon…..
23 March 2017 at 01:22 #55846All my thoughts and sympathy go to the victims of this horrible attack and all the people of the UK. Stand strong like you always do.
20 March 2017 at 02:41 #55833@missy Although I won’t pretend to understand all of it I really liked it. I just get to watch it a few more times and that is ok with me. I hope for more and I really enjoyed all of it right from the first episode to the last one. The whole series has been exceptional interpretation of the Sherlock Holmes stories in my humble opinion.
20 March 2017 at 02:33 #55832@blenkinsopthebrave and @pedant I was sad to hear of another legend gone. Chuck Berry was an original who inspired so many artists through the years. Whenever I hear Johnny be Good it takes me back to school dances and other good memories which is what great music should do. It always got the kids on to the dance floor. He also had some cool moves when he performed. His music will live on.
13 March 2017 at 23:14 #5579511 March 2017 at 02:29 #5577811 March 2017 at 02:26 #55777@missrori I have watched that show but sadly missed that episode. Too funny!
I am slightly worried about any “operation Dalek” that may be out there.
10 March 2017 at 02:12 #557643 March 2017 at 03:46 #55714@missrori @thane15 and @ichabod This is a time of stress for so many people in the world. (the understatement of the year) A time when it seems like the bad guys are winning, like they can do no wrong. In a fair life the bad guys would be punished and the good guys would be rewarded but that doesn’t seem to be happening. But that doesn’t mean we stop being good, we can’t stop being kind and just and open minded and we can’t stop helping others. That is my view of the Doctor , like a great women recently said “when they go low ,we go high”and the Doctor goes higher than anyone. Does he lose , or get hurt.or have both his hearts broke? You bet he does, but he just keeps on fighting the good fight agains bullies and bad guys all across the universe. The only reward for the Doctor is being true to himself and his own moral code , being The Doctor , and that is good enough.
3 March 2017 at 03:15 #55713@missrori Recently I started reading a series of books by Jonathon Stroud called Lockwood and Co.. These are called young adult books but I like them and believe me I am a long way away from being a young adult. As I told the Librarian “I refuse to limit myself to certain sections” and I am glad I don’t because I found these books. This is a fantasy series about a world where ghosts are everywhere and only young people can see or sense them. They have become ghost busters while adults hide in their houses. There are 4 books now and they have been a fun and enjoyable read. Good luck in your search for a good book.
2 March 2017 at 03:38 #55695There you go! No unwanted marks , they have stopped appearing. Who nose.
