@nerys     We watched Avenue 5 and liked it. I only watched the 1st series and I don’t know if there is any more. Will have to Google it. I have not heard about the other series and will have to Google it too.

We watched the 2nd series of Picard which we both liked and I watched all of the Umbrella Academy. For fun I saw the latest series of Taskmaster and Qi. In between I am starting my Who Christmas , next stop The Runaway Bride.

I recently saw an old Ed Sullivan Christmas compilation show and almost everyone is now gone.It was a sad nostalgia.

It is very sad about Christine she was a great performer.

Well once again tis the season when all things are Christmas. We go Christmas shopping, bake Christmas cookies, sing Christmas carols and watch our favourite Christmas movies. The best tradition is Christmas Who and I have started a little early with The Christmas Invasion (see all things are Christmas) .

What is not to like about tuba gun totin’ robot Santas and killer Christmas trees? Nasty old Scrooge aliens trying to ruin Christmas and only the Doctor can help but he is still regenerating. It is up to Rose, Jackie, Mickey and Harriet to save the day and they try but the alien humbugs are killers who are sadly lacking the Christmas spirit. Is all lost? No way, here comes the brand new Doctor ,buzzed on tea and ready to save the day!

The new guy is a bit of a hard ass and he gives no 2nd chances to the head baddie or Harriet Jones. The 1st he beats with a satsuma and a new hand and the 2nd with 6 words.  What a guy! Everyone has a lovely Christmas dinner  wearing Christmas hats they got from Christmas crackers.OK I will stop now.

@blenkinsopthebrave  Sadly I agree about the 13th Doctor’s episodes but since I have them all except the last few specials I will watch them all again. I found Capaldi a little jarring at first but the more I watched him the more I understood “his” Doctor and learned to love the 12th. I am hoping the same happens on re-watching 13s era.

I always liked  Whittakers performance but not always everything going on around her. I am determined to understand “her” Doctor .

@dentarthurdent   This is an excellent episode that gives me all the feels. It is my daughters favourite episode and like me she cries at the end no matter how many times she watches it. The idea that Vincent could find out (by a handy trip to the future) that his work still survived and is loved and admired by so many is very emotional. Now that is a cool thing to do with a Tardis.

@dentarthurdent and @janetteb  I had never seen or heard of any of them either so they were all new to me except of course Capaldi and Walsh, and I knew Walsh only from Coronation Street. We get Corrie here but not the game shows although I have heard of some of them.

Since I was a child I have loved all animals and most creatures (not mosquitos and biters)and it was my greatest wish as child to talk to animals. The Doctors ability to talk to and understand animals has always made me happy.

If I could talk to mosquitoes, black flies and other nasty things they would blush and then probably bite me.

@dentarthurdent  This is one of those episodes that I watch quite often because I like seeing the Doctor off the Tardis and out of his comfort zone. A fish out of water story. The difference between the comedy on the first floor and the horror on the “second floor” makes it very chilling. And that killer black mold growing on the ceiling is disgusting.

I still think that the kitty is a brave little spy, its good that the Doctor understands cat.

@blenkinsopthebrave  The trailer was exciting. Thanks. I have mixed feelings about 13s time coming to an end. The endings are sad as endings usually are and then regeneration shock sets in as I get used to a new Doctor.I didn’t like all her episodes but I always liked her.

I probably won’t get to see it when it comes on but I will try.

@thane16   Hey!  I hope everything is good for you and the family. We have been busy here getting all the fruit and veg harvested and jam and  jellied, pickled and preserved, frozen and dried and stored away for the long dark of winter. Although I love gardening and all the work that goes with it I am so happy when winter does  come. Almost 4 whole months of being inside doing things like crocheting while watching Who and painting while watching Who and well you get the picture.Lots of time to catch up on all the other shows I want to watch too. Maybe I will find The Inside Man at my library.

You will be having spring now and I hope the weather is good to you. Not too hot, not too cold but just right. Say hi to “the boy” for me.

@nerys  It is good to see that you were not too damaged by Fiona. We have family in PEI that had some bad damage and others in New Brunswick who got heavy rain and some flooding. Since there are so many family members there, they will all help each other till things are cleaned up.

I will tell the mister about Westworld, he likes it. It creeps me out!

@dentarthurdent   That was a great review , I think.  I have watched this, heck I own it but I can barely remember it. Strange,  anyway I will watch it later because I love Captain Jack.

I tried making a sour dough starter and after nearly killing it a few times but bringing it back to life I called it Captain Jack. Unfortunately it was not immortal like him and I am back to using yeast.

@janetteb  I tried GoT but it was too much for me so I listened to it from my PC in the kitchen while the mister watched in the next room. Even then I occasionally put on the headphones to muffle the screams.

@nerys   I hope you and yours are OK after such a violent and destructive  storm. The damage to many parts  of the Atlantic provinces is terrible and sadly even the loss of some people. Let us know how you are when you get a chance and know that the rest of Canada wants to help. I am so proud of how prepared you all were and how strong you are in the face of such destruction but I am not surprised. @nerys  @blenkinsopthebrave   Midnight is an intense episode that is like the Twilight Zone . I can almost hear the opening narration and the do-do music. We never know what exactly is happening or who is causing it and we never know why. Watching the small group of random tourists become so scared they turn into potential murderers is chilling. Two innocent women die , one heroically the other a victim of the unseen being. Lost forever ………….in the Twilight Zone.

@dentarthurdent  I have enjoyed all of the first episodes but part of that is the anticipation I think. I have to say that Rose is my favourite  first story because it started my love of Who and the Doctor. It started a fantasy journey that I am still on and that I still enjoy as much as ever. When I watched the first series I didn’t even have a computer and here in Canada, Doctor Who didn’t make the news back then so The Parting of the Ways was a massive surprise for me. I had no idea that the 9th Doctor’s time was over till it happened and like Rose I was in denial until he regenerated into the new guy.

I knew about regeneration but had no idea when it would happen. Because of the popularity of the show and the internet I will never be that surprised again, too bad. Like the Doctor says , sometimes it’s nice not knowing something.

@dentarthurdent   I work part time (money) and the mister is retired but we still never have enough time to do what we want.  My house seems to be bigger on the inside when it comes to chores. We also like sitting by the creek and watching the wildlife a little too much.

I save most of my DVD viewing for the long and cold winter but I am about to start the first season of the Umbrella Academy which looks good. I will give you my verdict after I watch a few episodes. Some of it was filmed in Hamilton Ontario , where my mom was born and raised so I will be watching for places I know.

I am also watching all the first episodes of the Doctors from the 9th to the 13th  for the fun of it. My theme is new beginnings  and maybe after I will watch the endings although that is much sadder. Maybe I won’t, who needs to be any sadder. I will have to come up with a more cheerful theme.

I am glad you had a nice birthday.

@dentarthurdent  and @janetteb  I have not watched this one since it first aired although I own the dvds, it is not a favourite. I remember some of it being exciting and the crazy Master and the destruction of Gallifrey and cybermen. Mostly I remember being confused. The Doctor is what now?The Timelords are who?

I decided that was all a bad dream brought on by too many jammie dodgers and jelly babies before bed. I will probably never stop watching Who as long as they keep making it but 13s time as the Doctor will never be my favourite.

I finally got to watch this episode and I have to admit that  I fell asleep watching an episode for the first time, ever. I just lost interest and dozed off for a few minutes. I did wake up and watch what I missed but other than a few scenes it was hum drum.

The interaction between Dan and Yaz  was amusing and the sea monster was cool and there was some swashbuckling and funny banter mixed up with a bunch of stuff. I am hoping that a second viewing while I am wide awake will help but right now all I can say about it is “Meh”.

The most exciting part was the preview of the next episode.

I just watched this episode again and it was even better somehow. It had every thing I like in an episode of Who, humour, banter, danger and lots of running down dark hallways. Not to mention wise cracking Daleks and a little romance. The 2 people trapped in the loop with the Doctor learned so much about themselves and each other that by the end they are a “thing”. Very sweet. It is amazing how being exterminated so many times can change your priorities.

I think we need a prequel so we can find out why Jeff has filled the rooms with so much strange stuff. Beefy beans, and why so many ?Is that all Jeff eats or were they on sale? Why does he live there and where will he live now? I have so many Jeff related questions.

I think this is my favourite 13th Doctor episode and one I will watch many times.

I also really like Galaxy Quest and actually just watched it the other day. It is funny but still tells a very nice story. I love the fact that the aliens, who believe that Gilligan’s Island is real, feel so sorry for the castaways. I think they say “those poor people” very funny.

@dentathurdent   Today I got the last 2 Doctor Who specials from my lovely library! I have seen the Eve of the Daleks but not the Legend of the Sea Devils but of course I will watch them both. It is a place to get movies and series and books and even use the internet and computers for free. It is a great part of our community and I always encourage people to use it or lose it.

@janetteb   It is very sad news. Wilf is  one of the most human of all companions and one of my favourites although he often makes me cry. If Wilf is happy and doing a little dance then I am happy but when he is sad then I cry every time no matter how many times I see it. Bernard Cribbins brought a warmth and light to the role that shone out in every episode he was in. I will always love the scene when he sees Donna in the Tardis through his telescope and cheers and dances because he is so happy for her. I am genuinely sad tonight.

As they get comfortable with each other the writing starts to play to the new Doctors strengths and the show gets better. As I get used to the newbie the show seems to get better too. Who knows?

There are a few episodes in every Doctors run that are “less loved” by some. I guess they can’t all be great. Most are though.

@janetteb   It is hard to see people and animals suffer through such heat and fires. We reached 38C today in many parts of the province and Toronto has issued heat warnings and opened cooling centers and pools until late tonight. The heat is oppressive and add humidity and it feels like a jungle. Many of us have air cons because it has become impossible to live without one especially in apartment high-rises. I try to get outside early to do any chores or watering in the garden and then retreat to the relative coolness of the house. My back deck looks like a little kitchen cause I do all my cooking out there to keep the house cooler.

The problem with air conditioners is that it is expensive to run them so you are cool now but really hot when the bill comes. Some people suffer through the heat because they can’t afford the bills. We found out that some senior neighbours were doing that so we talked with their kids. They told their parents that they would cover the extra money it costs. They are much more comfortable now and less stressed about money.

Anyway you know all about weather extremes where you live and I am sure have your own ways to cope with the heat. I hope that this terrible weather breaks soon so the people of Europe can recover and cool down.

@blenkinsopthebrave    We have a white oak in our garden and if it is a good acorn crop there is a feeding frenzy, Everybody shows up to eat them, grey and red squirrels, blue jays and red headed woodpeckers and even the cottontail bunnies eat the grounders. The grey squirrels bury them all over and then forget them so we counted 17 small oaks growing around the yard. We transplanted about 30 little trees into the woods across the creek last year and this bunch will go down the creek to fill in some of the spaces along the banks caused by the storm and the emerald ash borer. Thanks squirrels!

@dentarthurdent   As a kid I watched Bonanza and had a crush on Little Joe, a crush that continued for life. Now I find most old westerns cringe worthy. I still enjoy John Wayne westerns especially True Grit and the Cowboys and the mini- series Lonesome Dove is a once a year must see. High Chaparral is one I don’t remember but maybe I will after I IMDb  it.

@janetteb  Thanks! I agree, the kids today are walking a very different path then I did and it must be a hard walk. Hello all my fellow Whovians!  I am an extremely proud and happy Whovian this evening. We just got home from my granddaughters high school graduation ceremony and she is a wonderful, kind ,empathetic, feisty and determined young women. She  gives me hope for the future.

Her graduating class is so inclusive and so diverse and so accepting of each others differences that it makes my heart swell. Let the dinosaurs who practice and preach hate of any kind step aside for this new generation of people who deny all those divisive  isms for love. I am sure that this shift from exclusion to inclusion is happening among  the young people all around the world and it should fill all like minded people with hope. We have taught them well and they will go out into the world with the hopes of making it better. So good.

Enough gushing and bragging for tonight.

My son got me a 11th Doctor stuffy who wears a fez and has a sonic screwdriver that lights up and whistles. He also talks if you squeeze his tummy. So cool. He also found me a 1979 paperback called “Doctor Who and the Cybermen” by Gerry Davis. It is a story about the 2nd Doctor and I can’t wait to read it. Did I mention that he is my favourite son?  Just kidding, but he is the father of my smart, independant, hard working Granddaughter who just graduated!

@dentarthurdent  I agree that the issue is very complex and since I don’t remember how the episode treated it I was only pointing out that there are micro-plastics everywhere. So much of it is caused by polluters who don’t seem to know where their garbage belongs. Single use water bottles (and other garbage) are on the side of the roads and in the ditches, on the beaches, in the oceans and floating down our creek. Disgusting!

We have tried for years to cut down on the plastics that come into our home and it is very hard to do. Everything comes wrapped or contained by plastic. We reuse or up-cycle what we can and recycle the rest but it never seems like enough.

While the message is everywhere many seem to have missed it. Maybe some people have to be slapped up the side of the head with their water bottles to learn the lesson. Just thinking out loud.

Stay safe and plant a tree.

I do remember the micro-plastics though because they are very problematic. Researchers sampled oysters and mussels up and down the west coast of Canada and found no shellfish without plastic in them. Plastics are also found in fish in the Great Lakes.I imagine they are also in me.

Other than that I really need to watch this one again because I must have been sleeping or drinking or high when I watched it the first time.

@nerys  I am very sorry about your Mother. It was nice that you could be with her and that you had some family with you.  The service sounds lovely and the choir singing for her was a wonderful tribute for a person who loved music and singing. It truly sounds like a beautiful memorial and it will bring you comfort on the sad days.

I lost my Mom a few years back but I still think of her and “hear her” everyday. She was such an important part of my life that she still guides me through bad times just by thinking of her. I just know what she would say and I am comforted or chastised or told to pull up my socks. She also loved music and played piano for weddings. We had a piano at home and she would play and sing old and new songs. I still remember songs she sang when I was a little girl and sang them to my kids and grandkids. I hope music will be a way to connect to your Mom too.

@janetteb   Congrats on your election. I hope good changes are coming for Australia. We vote tomorrow for our Provincial government and Premier. It looks like the Conservative Party will win a majority again according to the polls and we will have to put up with our “Pave paradise and Put up a parking lot” ,anything for a buck, corporation loving, build more highways, Premier Doug Ford for more long years.

We have become a province of haves and have- nots. The have- nots can’t afford a place to live or decent food but according to the conservatives they just have to work harder, maybe get a third job so you can pay your rent. Poor people can go to food banks if they have to. Meanwhile he will build a multi- billion dollar highway so people going to their cottages don’t get caught in traffic. Pristine wild land as well as peoples property and farms will be confiscated to build this road. Sometimes I feel like we are living in a very sad and bleak Dickens novel, but no, just a very rich province with bad leadership.

I can only hope that the polls are wrong and I will vote for change but I don’t hold out much hope for this election.

Years back we found a few old episodes of “Lost in Space” and had good giggles remembering watching it as kids. The mister wanted to travel in space with a robot and I was usually scared stiff watching it. When we put on and watched it we really laughed. How was I so scared by it?  The shows we watched in the 60s were pretty innocent compared to today and we children were “protected” from all the nasty things out there.  No sex! ever, but all the shoot em up westerns you can watch on Saturdays. No wonder I wanted to be a cowboy.

@janetteb @blenkinsopthebrave  and @dentarthurdent     Thank you all for the good wishes. Our area has declared a state of emergency now due to all the damage and that should bring in some more help. It is really a big clean up job. Our neighbours  have another neighbours 50ft spruce tree resting on their roof waiting for removal. It was pushed right over, lifting its roots right out of the ground. Unfortunately like many places deforestation already left us with too few trees and this doesn’t help. Also those trees were filled with the nests of all kinds of birds and they were destroyed. We searched our tree and found no nests but there are a lot of upset birds around. Most will make new nests but space is becoming hard to find. Poor things.

I hope I never have to go through such a storm again (and to bring it back to Doctor Who) unless I had a Tardis to escape in.

    Stay safe.

We had an extremely bad storm here on Saturday with high winds, rain and hail. In one city they think it was a tornado that ripped off roofs and flipped cars.We were caught on the road to town when it got so dark then a bit of rain and suddenly a gust of wind that almost pushed our van over. We pulled off the road and sat silently and tensely for 15 minutes till it slowed down. Branches and dirt and debris flew past us and hit the van but we were OK. So scary!

One son was on his motorcycle when it hit and had to go down into a ditch and hold the bike between him and the wind while the other son was walking and had to run and shelter under a bridge with another person until it passed but both were safe thank goodness. so far at least 10 people were killed mostly by trees. We have lost hundreds , thousands of trees, in our area.

We were so lucky we only lost one big maple but it kindly fell away from the house and caused very little damage other than a lot of work cutting it up and moving it. We lost our power for a couple of days but some poor people may be in the dark for weeks because there is so much damage. So that was my weekend. I am so relieved that my family is safe but I feel so sad for those who lost people. The weather forecast was for rain and a bit of wind so we were totally surprised by the force of this storm. The news just confirmed it was a tornado.

By the way we were all headed to the funeral of a family friend which is why we were all out in it at the same time.It will be awhile before we get over that day.

    Stay safe, we did!

@blenkinsopthebrave  I agree about season 10, it had some excellent episodes. The Doctor Falls is full of the feels and I think I get some dust in my eyes every time I watch it. Twice upon a Time was a satisfying send off for the 12th Doctor and I was happy he saw and remembered Clara at the end.

I have to admit that although I watched all the Timeless Child episodes (some a few times) I still don’t get the point and have chosen to pretend it didn’t happen.

    stay safe.
