I’m with @Craig on the end, although they say it’s a single continuous take. I don’t care tho! It’s awesome!

  • Barbara Lefty replied to the topic The Cloven Hoof

The very same, and very obliging of you @Craig! One wonders how they’ll top it, but they always do ๐Ÿ˜€

@juniperfish, maybe, maybe. Could do with a few extra teaspoons.. Loch Tay lovely, is that the one with the Crannog centre?

Drone filming, can’t paste the link cos upstairs on tablet, not downstairs on MrLefty’s laptop (never found an emulator which worked) and also not in the music thread, but the OK Go video I won’t let you down with the 2000…[Read more]

Dear @phaseshift, that was one of the kindest, most thoughtfully mentorish things I have seen on this site and that’s saying something. Thank you for that demonstration of writing to inform, not offend. I shall certainly try to take a leaf out of your book in future.

I have been through a bit of a process regarding fanfic since my original post,…[Read more]

    @ichabod. Not a pub but a cocktail..

  • Barbara Lefty replied to the topic The Cloven Hoof

No @ichabod h ย I don’t suppose he treats his editors and secretarial staff any better than he does anyone else! Band sounds very interesting, so long as they never meet in pubs called the Cloven Hoof or venture into Puccini, otherwise we would need to excuse ourselves, unless you happen to have an elephant gun on your person…

  • Barbara Lefty replied to the topic The Cloven Hoof

Dear @ichabod, so lovely to “meet” you, feel rather honoured. Got pleasantly lost in the “Vampire Tapestry.”

Now that I am committed to playing in other people sandpits, a chance phrase, paraphrased from articles on the mysterious Denisovans and Red Deer Cave People made me wonder if, collected, Weyland’s publications should be titled,…[Read more]

@ichabod, @lisaB, engineer (or architect as GRR Martin puts it) v gardener, bit of both. Like the stock cards, mobile idea, tried doing that for my post-grad, couldn’t make it work, might be better suited to four/five act tv than science. Just need to keep an eye on…[Read more]

@juniperfish, I believe it was yourself. If ever a comment was guaranteed to make me come down on the side of fanfic tho it was @arbutus comparison with Indy music. Also, while I wasn’t making a direct comparison with Sherlock, but acknowledging others, namely @jumiperfish and Mr Lefty making the point, I’m quite willing now to go with it.

    I’ll…[Read more]

Unrelated, at breakfast, discussing the nature of God with a seven year old, as you do, she says, “I don’t think he could’ve done the Big Bang because nothing existed. Unless, he did it with the power of his will. Y’know, like Omega..”

@ichabod. Left hand of darkness is my single favourite book. I was a huge reader of scifi classics like Asimov, but was not aware of any missing ย female perspective until I read Le Guin. It was a real eye opener, and showed me that there was something unique and important to be said that was not typically said by men. I feel the same way about…[Read more]

Thanks for the articulation @pedant ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย Tend to agree, but again it is all tendencies. I think the main issue with the second type, the Corrector, is that they don’t enjoy writing as a process, just as a way to get stuff out of their heads and onto paper, so don’t get that it is A Good Thing to burn bad ideas or characters or plots.

    But that is…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip, really like that. Me personally, I think the difference is deciding you are a writer ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Barbara Lefty replied to the topic The Cloven Hoof

@arbutus. Amen to that although Mr Lefty may disagree with me characterising myself as the primary homemaker.

@purofilion you play with words and have the most distinctive style which I love!

I think you might be on to something with the Buffy ships. On occasion the “fandom” want something so bad, and the team give them something else, and a proportion of the fans decide they knew better and that they don’t like their show anymore. I kind of love it when…[Read more]

@juniperfish, bizarrely, the Sherlock thing was a conversation I was just having with Mr Lefty, also a defender ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย I did feel the need to qualify, as I am aware there is good writing that is fanfic, so I submit graciously to your staunch defence.

Oh dear. I’m going to have to go have a look now aren’t I?

  • Barbara Lefty replied to the topic The Cloven Hoof

Haha! Another wordsmith to the party! Howdy @purofilion, wondered if we would see you ๐Ÿ™‚

Does @pedant have a word on fanfic? Strictly, it is fiction, written by fans, but there are a few trends that make it frequently disturbing. It does tend to be bad, although there are doubtless exceptions. It tends to contravene in universe (whatever that…[Read more]

Lol, @lisa, I think there are some beautiful wordsmiths on here. Tbh, it was insomnia and being a bit down that got me going originally. But I just got to get it down! Whether it comes to anything is a different story, as it were ๐Ÿ˜‰
