@Arbutus – Well most incarnations do tend to have at least a small amount of disdain when in the presence of another; but with the Second and Third it is very clear they dislike each other. And the Sixth Doctor was quite an egocentric incarnation, so of course he’d view himself as better than his previous incarnation. But the Sixth Doctor is also…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – I think I went off on a theorizing regeneration rant yesterday. lol! I find regeneration a very interesting concept, trying to understand it completely probably isn’t possible though. And no problem, its just one long episode, so not in parts; a special for the 20th anniversary.
Glad you like the Seventh Doctor; I’m completely in love…[Read more]

@Craig – cheers!
Jesus and Mary Chain – they’re a band I really didn’t get into and can’t figure out why. Especially as I was into other Indie music at the time.
Fantastic to hear this – simple and poignant. Yet another prompt to dig out more of their stuff (it worked with LCD Soundsystem – I’m now enjoying their album Sound of Silver!).Thanks…[Read more]

@MonochromeDimension They are indeed very different, and so we all have our favourite incarnations. What I meant was that when I think of the Doctor, I tend to see the commonalities as much as or more than the differences. So as @FaeGrl said, they seem to me more like part of the whole. More as I view myself: there are different aspects of me…[Read more]

@FaeGrl @Bluesqueakpip Agreed that arrogance is one of the Doctor’s definitive traits. There is perhaps a different quality to it in the post Time War Doctor(s), for the reason that there is nobody left who might potentially be his equal.
I also tend to share @FaeGrl‘s acceptance of the Doctor in any of his incarnations, in whatever dir…[Read more]

@FaeGrl The first Star Wars film came out when I was in high school, and I confess I absolutely adored it, and the following two. However. When the first of the new trilogy came out, I was so horrified that I never bothered with any of the others. Although for quite a while, I felt alone in my view (although not regarding Jar Jar Binks, who…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – Interesting, I do often view them as seperate myself. But separate incarnations of the same character… hmmm, hard to explain. But yes indeed, he is a complex character! My favourites are First and Seventh… and also the Second and Fourth. Wait, I like the Sixth as well… okay I like all the Doctors!
Annnnnd that gif is from ‘The…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – Indeed, it just seems that the Seventh Doctor seemed to have the manipulative trait more than any other Doctor… similar to what @bluesqueakpip mentioned about the Tenth and arrogance. I find the Seventh Doctor a fascinating character, not only does his personality change over time… but he ends up considering most of what he’s dealing…[Read more]

I also don’t understand when people say that the Tenth is arrogant, when every Doctor have been so, as far as I can see. It’s a Time Lord thing, me thinks.
I agree entirely; Time Lords tend to be arrogant. The Doctor, consistently, tends to arrogance.
But the reason people say the Tenth is arrogant is that his incarnation was the one…[Read more]

@devilishrobby – The method the Seventh Doctor used to make Ace lose her faith in him in ‘Curse of Fenric’, is much more brutal than the Eleventh Doctor… but yes there is a similarity there in other Doctors, that some of them will be manipulative. Even the Second Doctor to an extent and he I always considered one of the nicest Doctors. But…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – Ah well, the Seventh Doctor becomes very manipulative… to the point he’s setting up and playing ‘chess’ with his enemies and companions. There’s a few scenes where Ace (you’ll meet her later) actually gets very angry with the Doctor about it. He’s a very interesting and unusual Doctor, who sometimes even seems quite cold… he is…[Read more]

Hi @FaeGrl and @MonochromeDimension – apologies if I’m butting in and you already know, but there was a “watch week-by-week” of Ghostlight a few months ago.
You can see episode 1 here along with people’s thoughts. Might be interesting to add yours if you haven’t already!
And I don’t think I’m spoiling anything, if I were to say that this serial…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – Yep, the Seventh Doctor is so cute in ‘Time and the Rani’!. With all the dundrearyisms. He’s brilliant in ‘Paradise Towers’ as well… of course only when you get to his second season will his manipulative nature become more apparent. Glad you’re enjoying his serials though. Oh and just a warning, when you get to ‘Ghost Light’, its…[Read more]

@FaeGrl – Yay for ‘Time and the Rani’! Its a serial that gets a lot of bad reviews from folks, but I think its great! Hah! And no Mel isn’t a Time Lord, but the Rani is. I’m guessing you got a bit confused at the part where he thinks she’s the Rani? The reason he knew she was Mel is because she only had one pulse, therefore not a Time Lord. And…[Read more]

blimey – was away for a few days over the weekend (family birthdays) and lots to listen to!
@fatmaninabox – that French Ska reminded me as it was playing of music from Africa. Not sure why – maybe my lazy ear hearing French and a reggae rhythm…? Thanks for that one!
However, there’s no excuse for Marillion. 🙂
I watched it again out of…[Read more] -

@FaeGrl – Oh yep, I know which serial you mean. And its actually a good idea to watch them in a linear fashion, as then you experience his manipulative side emerging… personally I think it is there in his first season, just not as much… and hardly at all in his first serial… but that is post-regeneration. Anyhow, interested to know what your…[Read more]

@FaeGrl I thought of you yesterday afternoon, as I was fortunate to enjoy a lovely piano recital of Murray Perahia. He played a lot of Chopin, among other things, including some etudes and a nocturne, and then did a Schubert impromptu as an encore. Since I love those Schubert pieces with a great love, I will post this for you and the others h…[Read more]

@FaeGrl Yes of course, Philadelphia. That was a mistype on my part. I’m familiar with Philadelphia as my husband’s stepmother comes from there, although I’ve not been there myself. Yes, the eastern US is pretty highly populated from a Pacific Northwest point of view, where other than Seattle it’s a day’s journey to anywhere of size. Although it…[Read more]
