Thank-you, That does help… I figured it was something like that, but I wasn’t sure… It didn’t look like a bad place to live, but it seemed like maybe it was similar to what we call ‘Section 8’ housing which basically means you’re poor enough that you need the government’s help to pay your rent. You apply for ‘Section 8’ housing and there are pre-approved apartments that take ‘Section 8’ housing agreements. Say the rent is normally $600, and based on your income you can only afford $200, then the government pays the landlord $400 while you pay $200. So the landlord is still getting $600 in rent, but not all of it is coming out of your personal income.
But then there was that scene in the parallel universe where Rose and The Doctor were talking about Mickey’s dad running off and his grandma raising him and how rough it was ‘growing up on the estate’, it sounded like they lived in gang territory (like certain parts of Los Angeles/Compton) but I didn’t think there were gangs like that in the UK (don’t know why I thought that, but when I think of gangbangers I only picture Americans like 14-30 yrs old)….
To be honest, it kinda makes laugh trying to picture a gangbanger talking with a British accent and talking ‘gansta’… It’s like when Nigel Lythgoe, on the American show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ tries to use hip-hop slang… it just doesn’t sound right… and I seem to have gone off on a tangent… (I’ve got a brain sort of similar to The Doctor’s in that my thoughts go about a million miles a minute… except I’m easily distracted by shiny things…)
