It would require a time machine to do a reunion of all regenerations of the Doctor. I don’t think either option, having the original actors or using substitute actors would work. Using only the more recent regenerations could easily be explained. (Well anything can be explained at a stretch in Dr Who) McCoy, (who was brilliant as Radagast) and McGann would work. I doubt many people would miss C.B. Peter Davison and Tom Baker have sadly aged too much now. Their voices could be used however. Perhaps the older the regeneration the harder it is for that regeneration to be pulled forward/back in time.

8 January 2013 at 13:26 #761Yep. That one’s scarier than your avatar ScaryB.
Re spoilers it is always best to err on the side of caution. Sometimes though information is deliberately shared, ie if we hadn’t known that Clara was to be the next assistant AOTD would not have had the impact it did. It is often difficult to decide what is and isn’t a spoiler.
8 January 2013 at 11:31 #743I’m hoping for a return of the Time Lords for the 50th and Clara as the key, scattered through time is probably my current favourite theory. I would also like to see some slight reference to old stories or characters/assistants ie Susan. As she, it would appear, is of Time Lord origin and is related to the Doctor her character has potential untapped narrative interest.
I accept the 8th Doctor as canon though I don’t really view the film he was in as part of the Dr Who story. I always felt it was a shame that Paul McGann was wasted in that travesty. He was a fine Doctor but the production was not Dr Who. The Comic Relief Curse of Fatal Death was far closer in feel and spirit, no surprise given that it was penned by Who fan, Steven Moffat when nu who was just a dream.
Regarding spoilers I agree it is best to err on side of caution. On a Dr Who thread on another forums there are often two discussions, with and without spoilers. The spoilers aren’t usually too “spiolerish” and admittedly the non-spoiler discussion is rather dull but there are few Who related posts anyway. The problem is that the definition of spoiler is idiosyncratic. Some people object to even hearing the name of an episode, though that is published in TV listings. I like “teasers” that add to the discussion/speculation but wouldn’t want infomation that ruined the fun.

4 January 2013 at 11:56 #335You are doing a great job. Setting stuff up takes time and we all have a deficit of that precious commodity. I like your suggestion about watching old episodes each week. “He who humours my madness” and I would be happy to schedule that into our weekly viewing program, which is usually a little thin.
I noticed the threads but have not got around to commenting yet however will do so over time. It is all about time after all. 🙂

3 January 2013 at 13:50 #279I agree with ScaryB. I think the revamped Tardis is just a production choice not a story arc signifier. It is a new interior for a post-pond Doctor. It is also more traditional, maybe echoing the reflective nature of the anniversary year episodes.
3 January 2013 at 13:15 #275Maybe the standard welcome and intro section would be nice, perhaps some threads devoted to old Who and maybe a section for discussion of other fav’ programs. (I know for instance that a lot of the Who crowd were posting on the Red Dwarf thread. I guess it really depends upon how much of a fixture you want this site to be. (My feeling is that quite a community has been developing on the Who Guardian threads and is in need of a home.)

3 January 2013 at 03:36 #263Another theory. I assume that AoD is set in the future. Therefor Clara could be either Susan, re-generated or Susan’s half human daughter. I think the later more probable. She uses the Dalek web or the explosion to splinter herself through time.
2 January 2013 at 04:05 #165Hi. Wave to all. Happy New Year.
Joined yesterday but was too tired to post after a very night NYE and early NYD event.
You have all been busy generating wonderful theories while I have been recovering. I like the suggestion that Clara is Susan’s mother though I don’t think she is River. I have been hoping to revist the Susan character who was essentially forgotten. She would have outlived the lover and what would become of her then, a lone time lady on earth?I had an idea for a story based upon him rediscovering a regenerated Susan.
We don’t really know why the Doctor ran from Gallifrey and the constant reference to running could allude to that. It would be interesting to explore that in the anniversary episode. Maybe he was in danger and Susan’s grandmother (Clara) told him to run with the child, intending to follow or expecting he would return when it was safe to do so. Perhaps she was unable to accompany him but somehow managed to escape by splintering herself through the universe, to lie in wait for over fifty years, for him. There was an element of familiarity in the way she kissed him. River may not be the Doctor’s first “Wife”, though if no 1 is living he would be a bigamist. Umm. Can’t see the BBC venturing there in a children’s show so maybe that scratches out that bonkers idea. Then again this is 2013 not 1963.
