@puroandson    Thanks for the heads up on spoilers , Son of Puro . Have not had a chance to watch yet but my son is getting me the first season soon. I can hardly wait to watch after such positive comments.

  • winston replied to the topic The Fox Inn

@pedant      Dead Like Me is a family favourite and I own all the episodes and the movie that follows. It is worth a watch. In fact it is worth a rewatch too. Thanks for reminding me about it. I have my winters worth of viewing ahead of me.

@jimthefish  @arbutus @pedant   Thanks all!  I don’t have Netflix but I am going to my sons for a few days and he does. I will marathon watch a few episodes  and let you all know what I think. Years ago I saw the movie and it was ok if I remember correctly. We are very snowy and cold (-4 C) here so lots of reasons to stay inside by my fire and wat…[Read more]

@pedant and @puroandson   The great reviews and positive remarks you have both made about Buffy have convinced me to give it a try. Now I just have to find it and start with the first episode. When I have found it and watched some,  I look forward to joining in the conversation. It looks like a fun show.

I almost forgot to mention how good Alan Rickman was as the voice of Marvin the gloomy robot in The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

  • winston replied to the topic On The Sofa (7)

I was so sad to hear the news about Alan Rickman this morning. I have enjoyed everything I ever saw him in. One of my favourites was the Sheriff  of Nottingham but also his role in Sense and Sensibility.  Galaxy Quest was a family favourite that I haven’t seen for a long time, but plan to watch soon.He could do anything.I will miss his great tal…[Read more]

@doctordani    Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy it. I also liked River from her first appearance and would love to see her back. The scenes with her and Capaldi were mint and I would like to see more. Whether that will happen or not, I don’t know. We can only hope.

  • winston replied to the topic Dalek

I am doing a Doctor 9  rewatch and remember this one as my first contact with Daleks and the fear and rage they revealed in the Doctor. Of course I knew the Daleks but had never seen a BG episode with them and only knew they looked like salt shakers with plungers and said “exterminate” a lot.

After seeing the Doctor screaming and yelling at the d…[Read more]

I just rewatched this one and I still enjoy it quite a lot. I like the mix of real people in a fantasy world, fact v fiction. So seeing Dickens battling aliens in the gas lines , Churchill with a Dalek  or Queen Elizabeth 1 getting married to the Doctor makes me happy. The episodes where the Doctor meets historical characters real or fiction ( Rob…[Read more]

    @missy Have fun!

  • winston replied to the topic On The Sofa (7)

Thank you @ichabod for posting that. It makes me appreciate the work that goes into DW, even more.  I am so lucky to be able to turn on the TV and be entertained by the final product. No wonder Capaldi doesn’t want to direct an episode as it takes weeks just to prepare for shooting.

Seeing how important they are to the  show  it makes sense to fo…[Read more]

@dralygonyx  Welcome to the forum! I am sure you will enjoy yourself  here. I live in Ontario, Canada and it is great to meet people from all over the world with one thing in common….Doctor Who. Have fun exploring and reading this great site.

  • Well I watched it and I really liked it . I have always loved the Sherlock Holmes stories and have read them all, many times. I haved watched many different shows and movies with alot of Holmes and Watsons and I love this modern Sherlock. This episode gave me a chance to see Cumberbatch and Freeman as the Victorian characters from those old tales,…[Read more]

Thanks for that @scaryb  it was great!       I just watched SiTL and it is very bittersweet now that we have come to know River. I also love that the Doctor gave River his Sonic because she told him he would and that is how he “saves” her. Very timey-wimey.

  • winston replied to the topic The Husbands Of River Song

After rewatching this and a few other old River episodes I noticed that she always sees The Doctor no matter what he looks like. She may comment on the change in his appearance ,but who wouldn’t?  At the same time she instantly looks past that to her Doctor and the relationship goes on. That flirty , zany relationship I love so much. Rose cries w…[Read more]

@frostfair   Hi there and welcome! I am sure you will like it here. I agree about the dialogue ,it was crisp and snappy.

@kharis   I feel your pain and share it. River would be an excellent companion to this Doctor. They are great together , but it probably won’t happen. Still I hope we see her again.

  • winston replied to the topic The Husbands Of River Song

@lisa  I saw and loved the snowy opening credits. I also hope for more Doctor and River adventures as these two are great together. This reminded me of the old 40’s movie comedies like the Thin Man with all that flirty banter and witty wisecracks. More please Mr. Moffat.

@arbutus  I caught the Stephen Fry remark and I bet he loved i…[Read more]

That was a fantastically fun romp! It had  lots of laughs and a few sentimental tears , like a good Christmas special should have. I liked the sparks that flew between the two of them, very flirty. A 24 year long night with the Doctor is one heck of a date.

There were so many things I liked about this episode like the argument about ,who marri…[Read more]
