Cath Annabel commented on the post, The trust is gone. Don’t be using my phrases when the trust is gone. Angel Season Three
Have drafted and abandoned a number of comments on this – finding it impossible to respond to anything about this season without straying into the next… However, splendid analysis and makes me want to rewatch – […]

Cath Annabel commented on the post, If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do – Angel Season Two
@JimTheFish – good points, well made.
Also seconding the recommendation for Much Ado – it was a joy to watch. Joss even made some of the broader comedic bits work, which can be excruciating. And Denisov and […]

Cath Annabel commented on the post, If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do – Angel Season Two
@JimTheFish Excellent as ever. And the quote you use as a title is one I use all the time, as kind of a humanist manifesto… I’m not sure though about contrasting the Scoobies as ‘belonging’ and the Angelettes […]

Cath Annabel commented on the post, Every girl who could have the power, will have the power, can stand up, will stand up – Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Seven
@JimTheFish Thank you for the kind mentions, and for this heroic blogathon – not done yet, of course, we await your Angel analyses with bated breath!
I agree with everything you say about S7 – but it seems to […]

Cath Annabel replied to the topic General Open Thread – TV Shows
@purofilion @JimTheFish @pedant et al. S7 would never be my favourite season. I think 5 holds that place. Though even just saying that makes me want to argue vigorously for 3, or even 6. But there are things in 7 that are marvellous. The whole premise of the show – at least as flagged in the title – is challenged, both by the Scoo…[Read more]

Cath Annabel commented on the post, I think you’re seeing demons where there’s just life – Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 6
@JimTheFish – Tara’s death is shocking not just because it’s purely human, but because it’s random, arbitrary. Warren was not trying to kill Tara, there was no meaning or purpose in her death. That’s the world […]

@purofilion – Shout all you like, pet, it’s Once More with Feeling and it is AWESOME. OK, there may be some fans who don’t like it but they are very silly and we shan’t bother about them. It’s beautiful and funny and dark, and it’s got songs that you actually spend the rest of your life singing at odd moments, and it totally works.

Cath Annabel commented on the post, Death is your art. Every slayer has a death wish. Even you. Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Five
@purofilion @pedant This is exactly what’s so interesting about the way the show develops. Are we OK with the simple binary that says that demons can be despatched without question or troubled conscience because […]

@purofilion @IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan – yes, agreed, Spike is capable of appalling cruelty. I think the fascination (apart from the cheekbones) is in the contradictions. A romantic poet who will endure torture to […]

@purofilion The Boy chez nous is currently partway through a rewatch of Buffy S3. That’s good parenting, that is.
Yes, the emotions… I’m a hopeless weeper, as I’ve acknowledged freely on this forum many […]

@JimTheFish Superb stuff, thanks. Feeling an almost overwhelming desire to watch the whole damn lot again, start to finish. Though perhaps not do what we did one time and interweave BtVS and Angel eps according […]

@purofilion Re your last (longer) post – beautifully observed and beautifully expressed. Esp liked this:
Quite epic: and yet as deft and light as a soufflé or a Sylvia Plath poem.

Some pompous idiot [actually it was me] said on one thread or another here that ‘and then I woke up’ endings were tedious cop-outs. Moffatt just subverted what can indeed be a lazy narrative device, often used when a writer has simply exhausted their inventive powers, and turned it into something truly unsettling.
And overall it was a…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave Dinner? Never mind about dinner, when there are deliciously bonkers theories to be investigated! I’d missed that Forest was set in 2016. That is likely to give me a severe time-paradox […]

@Juniperfish I agree with you – I can take any amount of horrid chomping and hacking and slicing on TWD in preference to the sadistic, callous but bloodless brutality of Osgood’s death. My point was I guess about […]
