OMG!  I have never cried like that for an episode of Dr Who!  Of all the ones I have seen, all the Christmas Specials, my favorite up til now has been the Christmas Carol one.  No more, it’s the one.  Wow, just wow.

I have to say I loved this episode.  I was going to watch the second showing of it after Graham Norton was over, went downstairs to spend some time with my Mom and ended up staying and watching a christmas movie on tv and setting up our Christmas tree and thus missed it.  I am looking forward to seeing it again though.  (I hate GN which is why I left the room as I did, but wished to watch what came after so left the tv on)

The woman finding him in the barn, and all the common folk of Gallifrey gathered as he ate some soup outside was grand to see.  I do think he should not have made an enemy of Rassilon.  Still, he’s had a rather on and off relationship with him all through the series from the first time Rassilon was mentioned.

I’ve just watched this episode, and Wow, loved it.  After reading all the comments though, I have one question.  What does it matter if the Doctor is a clone or not?  He’s still the Doctor.  Makes little difference.

I loved this episode.  Well, ok.  I love almost all of the Peter Capaldi episodes so far.  Not sure how many of you watch via BBC America, but for those who don’t, I will say this.  Each week after the first of a new series, they show the episode that was new last week just before the new one.  So, I watched Sleep no More for the second time and now Face the Raven.  Last week, I hated Sleep No More.  Now, although I still think the reasoning behind the Sandman is the stupidest yet, I liked the acting and the episode more.  No, it’s not the worst, Gunfighter, or The Aztecs still hold that title.  (Okay, for it’s time and well, Hartnell was a bit much sometimes, don’t you agree?)

No, I do not think Clara is gone as yet.  We all know she will be leaving this show but to die now?  I don’t think so.  My personal opinion on that is that she will go in a Christmas special.  They always do those up BIG after all.

Oh, and if you wonder why I don’t watch “on demand” let’s just say that my tv carrier charges for that and I flatly refuse to pay for what I used to get free from my former carrier.  Change back?  What I get from the one I have is BBC America.  It and Dr Who was the main reason I changed.  Sigh.

this two part episode really hit home for me.  Lots of food for thought.  Thoughts I have been having for decades now.  How does a person feel when they outlive all those they love, time after time.  Do they stop loving after a while?  This is one of the premises to the novel I am currently working on.  An immortal (or seemingly immortal) race in a fantasy setting, and how do they react to living among ordinary humans.

Perhaps this is the number one reason I am so in love with the Doctor.  He’s pretty much immortal, and yet, through it all he keeps caring, keeps loving.  One of my friends used to say she hated Tom Baker as the Doctor because he never touched his companions, until Romana the second (the one he married IRL Lala Ward?  My memory is not clear on her name).  Me, I love how zany he was.  Until she mentioned it I had not noticed that.

So how does one decide which doctor is the favorite or the best one of all of them?  Your own personality, likes and dislikes lead you to decide for yourself.  I love Sylvester McCoy, and always will.  He and Ace were a great team.  I loved the way he talked.  Of the older series, he’s the one for me.  Of the new series?  I have not decided.  I like them all.

To be honest, my reaction was one of great disappointment.  Up to that episode what was on offer had been highly entertaining.  I am one who loved Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, and even the movie in 1999.  I liked the other doctors, although Colin Baker tended to grate on my nerves at times, so he is my least favorite.  Still, the writing was always at least entertaining.  I was thrilled to discover the new series and have been impressed with the actors chosen for it.  There had been none of the new ones I didn’t at least like and watch over and over again, until this one.  So, as I have no one else to talk to about it, and can’t really post on facebook as my Whovian friends who have not yet seen it would get mad at me for “Spoilers”, I found a forum and vented.  In reality, I would love to stay here and talk about the show at length.  There was one time during the late 80’s that I had a friend who had EVERY known episode at that time on vhs tape, and he said I was welcome to come copy all I wanted.  So I scraped up every tape I could find, asked if he minded if I stay a few days and did a marathon of copying, starting from William Hartnell, and on up, day after day, falling asleep in the middle of one and having to find where the tape ended and redoing it.  😀  I finally gave up and went home after three days.  I had all up to the middle of Tom Baker, and still have those tapes.  No tape player unfortunately, but am working on collecting all the eps on dvd.  My Whovian friends have gifted me the first three seasons of the new series.  I have a bit of catching up to do.

So, introduction.  I am a woman, mid 50’s, fan of Who and not a lot more, avid reader, planning to publish my first book in the next year, and living with my mother as her primary caretaker.  The idea of time travel is something that has always struck my fancy.  I play D&D, Champions, and a few other games in the past like Dr Who RPG and Changeling.

As for Sleep No More, I didn’t actually mind the way it was done.  That was interesting, and trying to follow along was a challenge I didn’t mind too much.  As a way of doing a show, I’d rather not see one like that again.  Still, it was different.  The main reason I didn’t like that episode and said what I did above is that the whole premise for the monster is totally bogus.  Surely they could have come up with another reason for the Sandman?  Seriously? (No Shirley jokes please)  As usual, the acting was excellent.  I just love this doctor.

I have read all the comments so far, and wanted to add mine.  I am not one for forums usually, but this episode made me feel I HAD to talk to someone about it.  My friends have not seen the episode as yet.

This is be far, IMHO, the worst episode of Doctor who since the new series started.  The first thing that struck me was the sand in the corner of your eye thing.  I have NEVER had this in my eyes.  Perhaps due to the fact I rub my eyes a lot.  Then, the reasons for the monsters, the Sandmen, to even exist.  I just could not suspend my disbelief enough to continue to watch with my usual enjoyment of the only show I have watched faithfully from the early 80’s to the present.  I have no desire to see if the Doctor succeeds or not in the second part.  I had to force myself to watch this through to the end.  As a result, a lot of what is discussed here I missed.  Did anyone else have any troubles with this issue?
