    @pedant couldn’t agree more!

    @puroandson @doctordani and @janetteb YES!

    This quote:

    I suspect, though, that the Stupids have won and want all episodes to be like Blink or The Family of Blood. I loved them actually -Paul Cornell did a pretty good job in that Human Nature two parter. Mainly, though, the Doctor ran, cried, sobbed, snogged and…[Read more]

    ’m starting to think that half my problem with ‘Hell Bent’ is that it came after ‘Heaven Sent’, which not only sealed the deal about Twelve becoming my fave, but was an absolute, unequivocal masterpiece and pretty much anything was going to feel like an anti-climax next to it.

    I think the key is to look at S9 as a whole, rather tha…[Read more]

    I think is most likely that he has been trying to extract himself for some time, and finally felt it was close enough that he could tell the story he wants.

    S10 will be interesting but I hope, if Gallifrey features at all, it will be sparingly and with a tightly focussed narrative purpose – exactly like it was in Hell Bent. The…[Read more]

    @doctordani  Capaldi isn’t any less popular than Smith really

    I think people sometimes get the really crazy Moffat-hatred as including Capaldi too, particularly since there was some very childish horror expressed by some very loud and persistent Tennant/Smith obsessives that Capaldi was too “old” and “mean” as the Doctor.  That died away, at lea…[Read more]

    @doctordani — Who is too much of a cash-cow for it to be killed altogether. It will endure in some form or another. Even if it ends up some kind of partnership with Amazon/Netflix kind of malarkey.

    I’m sure they’ll try to stretch HDM as much as they can but there are limits. Amber Spyglass is a bloated mess as it is. Calling attention to that…[Read more]

    @doctordani — I think we’re probably looking at a permanent shift to a non-winter slot, yes. Just to avoid it clashing with Strictly any longer. But His Dark Materials is just three series — four if they split up The Amber Spyglass — so I don’t think there’s any need to worry. And Who is too much of a cash cow for it to go altogether. Although…[Read more]

  • @doctordani That’s how it is for me.  I’m not gonna fight anyone on their opinion.  I’m just saying I personally consider River and the Brigadier companions.  But that’s just my opinion.  If you disagree, I’m alright with that.

  • OB-Wan replied to the topic Companions past and present

    @doctordani

    On the face of it, that seems a little strange.  I mean can you imagine someone saying “She’s my wife, but she’s not my companion”? (And what if she heard you?)

    You can be a companion without being a wife, but can you be a wife without being a companion?  I know that Doctor Who and River are not a conventional couple and they may n…[Read more]

  • @doctordani I believe that one of the producers from the classic series called the Brigadier a companion and that was how the debate started.

    How rude of me. Welcome to the forum. *grins*

    @doctordani

    Exactly! It’s the flaws in people which make them human, and I think that’s what endears me to this Doctor – as you say – his flaws.

    We know that eventually PC will leave, it isn’t welcome knowledge.

    cheers,

  • ichabod replied to the topic Hell Bent

    @doctordani   Capaldi’s doctor is an odd mix of being the most stand-offish and the most accessible, which therefore makes him the most complex and three-dimensional. I think he’s so likeable because of his flaws, and because of the depth the man who plays him brings to the party.

    Too true.  The melancholy Scot air that Capaldi uses goes much d…[Read more]

    @DoctorDani

    @ichabod Isn’t the half human theory sort of canon with the 8th Doctor?

    Somewhere in AG Who The Doctor has specifically stated that he lied about that (can’t recall where off hand).

    But anyway, we have a Time-Lord-Human hybrid. The human half was called Clara. Gestalt, innit?

     and it’s pretty damn obvious that he can and will make…

  • ichabod replied to the topic Hell Bent

    @doctordani  . . . introducing ambiguity about the ‘hybrid’ had a greater purpose here, and was a set up for that discussion between him and Ashildr about why he’s so preoccupied with protecting Earth, i.e. because he’s half human

    Well, it keeps that bit of kerfuffle alive, I suppose, and anything that maintains DW’s flexible backstory is worth…[Read more]

    @doctordani    Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy it. I also liked River from her first appearance and would love to see her back. The scenes with her and Capaldi were mint and I would like to see more. Whether that will happen or not, I don’t know. We can only hope.
