Thanks to all the fine folks who analyzed “Nevada” and trucks. Silly me for not recognizing a Ford Bronco… but then, I’m better at recognizing real “broncos” (various equines). >D

The bonkers theories are nearly more fun than the show.

Did I mention that I love the way they play with time and the timelines of stories? And how much space they leave for fanfiction.

OK, now I had to look up the Canary Isles… yes, very Nevada-ish. But then parts of Spain and Italy have stood in for the Wild West for decades.

First of all… brilliant episode and season!

Also the insightful critiques and analysis by all you fans. Despite owning The Scarf (hand-crocheted by a friend’s mom in the early 80s) and a hat that might go with it, and being able, since the 80s, to say “exterminate!” with the proper accent, I’m a bit of a Newvian, as I couldn’t really watch the series regularly until Capaldi.

So I may be missing some of the tangled web and references (in this story) to the Doctor’s entire timeline.

While I absolutely hated “continued next week” at the end of a show back in the 60s (Disney, looking at you), I love the way this series reads like a comic book with each episode continuing into the next in a total story arc.

Actually loved the wrap-up of Clara’s timeline…er…tangled time web. The two Stuck-In-Their-Respective-Weird-Ordinary-Shapes tardises passing each other in space was hilarious, the sort of weird quirky hilarious I’ve come to expect of Moffat. I love the idea that Clara, after travelling with a time lord, has sort of become one… The Doctor’s story has never been linear, he loops and tangles all over time and space, and now Clara is both eternal and caught between one heartbeat and the next.

And he literally went to the ends of the universe for her.

So many films and so much YA literature depends on the Almighty Romance. I am at the point in my own timeline of not giving a (bleep, expletive deleted, conversing like a mariner, using literary license) about romance. I simply LOVE the relationship between the Doctor and the Companion, and that it might cause one to risk one’s life, to risk worlds, to tangle time, to risk the stability of the entire universe itself, to make one go to the ends of the universe to save one person. it is a love deeper and greater than mere romance or the local, temporal hormone drives of humans.

I wonder where they filmed “Nevada”. Maybe a CG wild west was easier than actually going there. Also nobody here drives… whatever that “truck” was. Looks like a mutant Landrover. Trucks are huge, beat up, and can carry an entire cow in the bed. Usually named Chevy or Ford. Sometimes Ram. See also Dodge. (both are a clue as to why you should get out of the way). Also missed the dead deer platform often found on the rear… Definitely needed more dents and rust. And a 150 is small. A 350 is more like it. Come on guys, surely someone in the UK has a real truck.

Love the bits of paint falling off the tardis at the end. That piece of the timeline is done, a New Adventure awaits.

B. Could Clara’s running around the universe saving the Doctor (eh, what episode was that from, where she’s doing that at the beginning…) be when she’s between one heartbeat and the last?

C. Why does she tell the Gallifreyans “You are hated.” Wha’d I miss? OK, time wars and things and stuffs but…?????

I just love how this whole set of stories plays with time, how everything seems to loop and twist back on itself.

Enjoying the comments from the Aussies and Canadians…

Been to Canada (to the bottom of the St. Lawrence River, in fact: shipwrecks, really big crayfish, and cute dive boat guys)(and to the World’s Fair back in the…eh…. 60s somewhere)(also, my favorite Iditarod/Yukon Quest teams seem to be Canadian… also the only ones gutsy enough to run Siberians).

Would love to go to the Land of Marsupials and Everything Venomous… then, off to Middle Earth.

I live in Pennsylvania where the most venomous thing is the odd copperhead snake.

I grew up on sci fi books, Star Trek (the Original), discovered Star Wars and fandom about the same time (1977), got a vast amount of verbiage called Lord of the Rings dumped into my hands, went to my first D&D game, my first sci fi convention…

…and someone made me this ridiculous scarf. Something about a time lord and a blue box.

I had exactly three channels on the TV, maybe four if PBS would come in (if you shouted at the antenna enough).

I was vaguely aware of the blue box dude for the next several decades as other sci fi and fantasy came and went, waxed and waned. Occasionally I’d get a chance to see an episode a friend had recorded.

Some friends shared bits of TENnant and Ma11 Smith (easy to remember what numbers they are!) episodes. They popped up continually on tumblr to the point I felt like I’d seen the whole series (cute, appealing, funny, wish I could watch it).

Finally, I discovered I could watch the series on Amazon…

I CAN WATCH IT ON AMAZON!!!!!!!! For a paltry $1.99 an episode.

Let’s just say, now that there is finally a Doctor my age, that I see what the decades of hooplah are about.

Brilliant, funny, deep, intelligent… and that’s just the stories.

Also loving Capaldi. But then, I have a thing for Scots.

Must now catch up on the past Doctors.

There’s an overall sense of the tangulation of time being discussed here… that the episodes themselves aren’t necessarily in a linear order. If that is indeed the case, it would be an interesting concept.

I mean, time lords don’t travel in straight lines either. Why should their stories?

What did I just see….

…and who’s been poking around in my nightmares… stairways to nowhere, doors that open onto walls (or more doors), buzzing flies, creepy lurching veiled thingies (why do they always creak and lurch and move reallllly slooooow?!?!?).

Capaldi… capaldicapaldicapaldi…omg.

Love the conversations with Clara, how she is always back turned, sort of a strange “spirit visitation” or memory, wonderfully eerie until that last scene with her.

I must say something about the brilliant cinematography; the slanting orange light, the heavy light and shadow, the elegant framing of Capaldi in just the right bits of light and shadow… augh! Perfect!

Capaldi has marvelous sea-grey eyes.

Now, if I read enough comments from the Whovian experts, I may make some sense of this amazing (and somewhat befuddling) episode.

Well, I can’t wait for next week!

Well, hello everyone!

Just found this site, and while I am hardly a Newvian (having heard of Doctor Who and seen snippets of it since I joined general fandom in the early 1980s) I have not been able to consistently watch it until now (online, on Amazon).

I love the comments and insights on this episode and am looking forward to reading others.

I am a bit bemused by many fans feeling as if Capaldi’s Doctor is a bit chilly or unlikable (even if they think he’s brilliant). I find him adorable, hilarious, and someone I can totally relate to, ADD brainstyle and all. Maybe it’s that I am now at the age where I feel far more like the Grumpy Old Wizard (female, in my case) than the Magical Child.

I think we may see more complexity layered onto this iconic character as this series progresses.

I like the Norse imagery in this episode (I’ve done some Viking Age living history and sailed..eh… mostly rowed, a 40′ Viking Longship at times) and think Maise is brilliant.

I think there’s more to Clara’s story.
