I’ll chalk it up to grief, and emotions clouding thinking, but Clara’s attempt at blackmail seemed a bit silly.

First of all, why did she need all 7 keys?  If the Doctor is locked outside of the Tardis without a key, then she only needs at most 3 to make her point (destroy one to get attention and show she is serious, destroy the second on first refusal, and then the last).

Then there is the click fingers problem, which she may or may not be aware of.

Since it seemed possible in the Sarah Jane Adventures to build a key from memory, then theoretically the Doctor could always make a new one somehow.

What was her plan if she did destroy all the keys?  That she couldn’t live without Danny and throw herself into the lava?  I assume she just presumed she wouldn’t have to go that far, but it was a silly place to be stuck in (not to mention that being that close to actual lava would probably cause you to ignite).

I’m curious how Missy was able to monitor the Doctor so easily without him knowing (apparently).  Which brings to mind, where is the Master’s Tardis, and in what form?

Regarding the Cybermen, I think recent corpses are being used, and their brains kept alive (tanks), and given a virtual reality.  If they select to delete their emotions, then they can be converted to Cybermen.  So this wouldn’t be a case of capturing souls or consciousness.  I wonder why they needed or wanted that android from the first episode, unless it was for its skills with working with bodies.

1. I guess British trains are simpler than American ones – See ‘Taking of Pelham 1 2 3’ where overcoming the dead mans handle was complicated because they don’t want people to be able to send unmanned trains on tracks, ie. collisions, etc.

2. What secret?  Certainly they saw something they couldn’t explain, but that doesn’t mean you have to fill in the gaps.  I should know, I’m a magician.  If I do a trick people can’t explain, I’m not obligated to explain it or invite them back to my place.  Besides, were the stairs broken?

3. What, Clara saving Clara, or Clara working with Clara wouldn’t be any better than the episode where a guy thought he was the Doctor, and the Doctor had to check how many hearts the guy had to be sure.

4. Depends on the process involved.  If one is converting a real object into a 2D picture, then the process could be reversed.  If on the other hand the real object is converted into a non-painted 2D image, then a painted 2D image would not be convertible and I concede your point.

So why were ‘plenty’ of my questions stupid?  I’ll concede #4, and perhaps #3 if they keep using the writer(s) as the first few episodes of this season, but I’m writing this at 2 am in Canada so you’ll have to forgive some laziness as far as reading/names go as its late.

Overall I enjoyed the episode.  After the first few weak scripts, and that horrible Kill the Moon, things are starting to look up.  An original script, with some good ideas, although the ending was a little abrupt.

A few thoughts:

– could the Dead Man’s Handle really be defeated by Clara that quickly and easily?  I’ve seen movies where they talk about the new system they use because the DMH was too easy to get around.

– why did everyone have to take the Tardis to get out of the tunnels?  I liked the way the older Doctors were reluctant to admit that they were Time Lords, and would only let companion candidates into the Tardis.  Even Matt’s Doctor was erasing history of himself.

– will we run into any more Clara duplicates?  There should be a lot more out there, unless they are confined to all the Doctors prior to Matt.  That would make for some interesting episodes.

– since the boneless could turn 3D people into 2D images, why couldn’t they turn a 2D image into 3D?  I realize it wasn’t a real door, but the logic works both ways since the people weren’t real images.  Not that important, but it was a question.

– Of course the big question is who our mystery lady is.  How can she keep track of the Doctor’s whereabouts without him knowing?  Why is she saving androids and dead policemen?  Is there a connection to River Song (and will she make an appearance in this Doctor’s timeline)?  The Time Lord/Master theory is possible, especially since we don’t know what happened to his Tardis.  Is there going to be some kind of judgement made on the Doctor with those elements serving as evidence?  Is she related to GUS, or is that another mystery villain?  Who else has access to the Doctor’s phone number?

Up until these last couple of episodes, the Doctor hasn’t seemed to be as on the ball as he usually would be.  He didn’t clue in that Clara was involved with Mr. Pink, he wrongly assumed she was interested in another teacher, he didn’t pick up on her lies, etc.  It was only in the last couple of episodes that he showed he was definitely more intelligent than Clara.

I do find Clara’s character a bit odd.  A little too confident and too relaxed in dangerous situations perhaps?  I guess she doesn’t come across as a ‘real person’ to me.

With regard to why the mummy would go after the weakest first, as a weapon it would be less likely to draw the attention of those that could potentially stop it, since the weakest dying or ‘hallucinating’ before they died would not be that suspicious.

Of course we have to wonder who was behind Gus, and why they would want that kind of weapon?  Does it relate to the other strange background characters who seem to be collecting things, eg. android from the first episode, or is it unrelated?  And again how would they get the doctor’s phone number?

Probably the best episode of this season, particularly since the trailer made me expect a disappointing one.

I’ve been rather disappointed with the scripts with the new Doctor.  Listen was okay, at least until the ending; Time Heist wasn’t bad, but the rest were rather weak.

Kill the Moon was easily the worst of the lot.  Whoever wrote it seemed to steal the idea from an old Superfriend’s cartoon, and also has a poor grasp of Biology, Physics, and Geology.  I’m willing to allow some suspension of disbelief, but this episode went way too far.

– the Doctor knew something was wrong with the moon’s gravity, by using a yo-yo, but he implied that they should be floating about all over the place.  The moon has 1/6 the Earth’ gravity, so you could jump 6 times higher, but you would hardly be floating around.

– Moon as an egg.  Old Superfriends cartoon plot, and what a silly concept.

– Moon’s gravity has increased.  They imply this is due to the growth of the creature inside.  Sorry, but that would just be parts of the moon changing into parts of the creature, and no change in mass would occur (high school physics).  The moon would have to be sucking up the entire asteroid belt and then some to do what they are claiming.

– Giant bacteria look like giant spiders…not even close.  Someone didn’t take high school biology.

– Previous expedition didn’t find any minerals?  Rocks are made of minerals, and we know there are lots of rocks on the surface.  Someone doesn’t know geology.

All in all a very poor first season for Peter.  I hope the scripts start to get better.

Anyone who watched Bill Nye the Science Guy will know that the Space Shuttle isn’t powerful enough to reach the Moon, but I’ll let that one pass as it depends on the booster they use.  Not sure how they intended to land though, since it is designed to land in an atmosphere, and crashing on the Moon with lots of nuclear warheads doesn’t sound like a well thought out plan.  Were they implying the Doctor is psychic, knowing the future, or just remembering the future once events were locked in?
