    @TheKrynoidMan

    Sorry – I’ve not read the Peter Hook book. I’ve tended to avoid music biographies because they can ruin some happy memories. I’ll agree with you in that I think Curtis was the damaged soul of Joy Division, and responsible for much of the sound trying to replicate it without him would be pointless.

    @whisht

    UNKLE always interesting…

    @JanetteB @TheKrynoidMan @FatmanInABox I don’t know what the purpose of the hack was I just know some files were changed.

    It might be worth running a full virus scan just in case it could have installed some malware on your computers.

    Once again, apologies.

  • janetteB replied to the topic Website comments (2)

    @Craig, would the “Hack” be responsible for the odd snatches of music that my laptop has been playing to me throughout the day? Maybe part of @TheKrynoidMan‘s collection?

    Cheers

    oh – and @TheKrynoidMan as for humour, its such a fine line between finding something funny and finding something dull or even offensive – and its the audience who decide, not the comedian.

    I guess its for the comedian to either care and tailor their material to their audience, or not care and suffer the “that’s not funny” and even “that’s…[Read more]

    Gotta catch up on a few tracks up above!

    Some great Goth tracks (though I wasn’t a goth, I’ll admit to a long black coat and a fedora-I-bought-but-never-wore as an awkward teen).
    Interestingly(?) (probably not) this season’s hipster look seems to be either pastel 80’s Miami Vice/ kajagoogoo (shorts, dungarees, deck-shoes) stretching to extreme…[Read more]

    I mentioned the Bond influence the other week, which I think was partly a Pertwee/era thing and also as @Phaseshift mentioned again, this wasn’t originally intended to have Daleks in it. I think it gains from adding them – the chain of pressure/collusion becomes stronger. How far will someone go in allowing themselves to be compromised in order to…[Read more]

  • Good, fast paced episode with lots happening. UNIT basically had a week off while the Doctor and Jo visit the guest cast, 200 years in the future. And we start to realise that the guerillas really do have a point – in case you hadn’t guessed from the mere existence of Daleks, the future is not a nice place to live.

    @ScaryB – yes, the tricycle…[Read more]

    Another good episode. Some nice direction – I like the use of tight closeups (you don’t need any budget to pull those off 🙂 ). The controller is a lot less camp in this. He’s quite weasily with the daleks, but then turns distinctly nasty when he gets the chance to put the pressure on his underling. The Daleks put the pressure on him, he puts the…[Read more]

    @TheKrynoidMan    Ah, a sense of humour. But sometimes it’s like a foreign language to others. I have never forgotten a moment in a lecture room at university, years back. Our musicology prof was announcing an upcoming lecture by the early music conductor and scholar Andrew Parrott. Our prof, very seriously, said, “I’m sure it will be interest…[Read more]

    Ooh, @TheKrynoidMan, I just love that song, and Louis. I enjoy everything he did, from the early groundbreaking jazz to the gorgeous renditions of American songbook classics that he did on his own and with others. His recordings are standard Friday evening fare in our house. Here is one of our faves, performed with the great Jack…[Read more]

    ah that’s an absolute classic @TheKrynoidMan – one of the best songs even though its for a film (if you know what I mean).

    (I think we linked to What a Wonderful World here before though I can’t remember why – another awesome song).

    Anyway, there’s been some Eleanor Bron love elsewhere on the threads, so here’s a version of a song I’d not heard…[Read more]

    @TheKrynoidMan I think there may be the briefest of brief glimpse of red briefs. But then we’ve already had Leela’s wet blouse and Zoe’s tight catsuit to cope with in our BG watch.

    @FatManInABox    Daleks doing G&S. Oh dear, that was an OMG moment. No tea in hand, fortunately. (Big Finish had the Daleks quoting Shakespeare, but this is even funnier.)

    @Whisht  Thanks for those Durutti Column tracks, wonderful. I’ll agree, there were tears.

    @TheKrynoidMan   South Park really nailed those musical numbers, didn’t they? And…[Read more]

    How nice of the UK weather to join in the spirit of World Goth Day with thunder and lightning. Very appropriate.

    Ah @whisht – I know what you mean, but I can’t explain how fun that scene actually was to be inside in the late eighties. How we used to laugh (while not showing anyone, obviously).

    Anyway – Rain.…[Read more]

    I… hope you enjoy it. I have a soft spot for those orginal movies but, ever since I saw Omid Djalili live do a routine on Godzilla, I don’t think I could look at the screen in the same way again.

    The eventual routine, after this leadup involved a story about his Dad and Uncle taking…[Read more]

    @TheKrynoidMan – holy cow! Are you snooping on my hard drive??!??!!?!?

    When we were linking to cover versions, I created a long list of songs which begins:

    Absolutely not! Alice Cooper doesn’t work at all as a James Bond song. Working as a James Bond song has got nothing to do with being good music, but everything to do with capturing the essential silliness of the James Bond product. Conchita Wurst captures it in a pitch perfect way, and understands what makes James Bond,…[Read more]
