@whohar @dentarthurdent @janetteb
Time paradoxes and how to avoid them.
Timelords are time sensitive… Girl who Died… ‘ripples not tidal waves.’ Obviously no one is going for the abandoned arc/plot seeding theory… but the implication is, this IS a tidal wave and The Doctor knows it. Therefor he’s there because the Tardis done it. Malfunctioni…[Read more]

if the hero walks into an ambush ‘now’, WHY doesn’t he just hop into his time machine and go back to yesterday and warn himself.
Classic Who had two main ways of dealing with this – the aforementioned Blinovich and also the fact that the Doc was not able to control the Tardis well enough to allow him to just go back a few hours…[Read more]

@whohar @janetteb Acutely observed, Whohar. Usually the Tardis has just been transport to where (or when!) the story is going to happen. It’s a lot simpler to write that way. (More conventional stories occasionally have ‘flashbacks’ to show us what happened previously, but of course the characters in ‘then’ have no foreknowled…[Read more]

I think Moffat just can not resist a time paradox, his favourite narrative toy.
I think what’s interesting about Moffat-era Who in this regard was the way he used time to drive the plot. Time became almost like another character in the story. Whereas in most Who stories, time was a narrative device to get…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent Agree the relationship is subtle. Much is left to the reader to construe which is pitch perfect.
@ps1l0v3y0u Maybe the Doctor and Martha followed the spawning critters to Western Drumlins and got zapped. He was still holding the file which he had not had time to read. Or he put the file in his bigger on the inside pockets and…[Read more]

fantasy science. Yes, it’s part of the show but they flaunt the worst possible examples so often you have to wonder if we’re being baited.
Flooding the entire Earth didn’t ought to be possible. Perhaps The Chief Sea Devil meant he would flood low lying continental margins. That might well cause the collapse of human civil…[Read more]

Otherwise, the known…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Just noticed your comment in the ‘Sea Devils’ thread, re Larry and Sally. I think their relationship was handled very well and subtly. It was obvious they got on well together, there was a good chance they were a couple, but that’s all it needed. I can quite happily imagine a romantic attraction there without needing it…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Well, the story has so many plot holes it would sink faster than a rowing boat in a hurricane. (And yes I’d picked up on the magnetic poles thing. The Earth has had the poles flip within recent (geological) times, and I don’t think there’s any geological evidence of the entire Earth being flooded. Why am I more tolerant…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Of course! Billy got her phone number when he was young and cheeky. Calling her ‘Gorgeous girl’ evidently worked. As he said, “It was raining when I met you” and she said “It’s the same rain.” (And she was quite literally correct).
For some reason I always choke up when I hear that line.

Legend of The Sea Devils
LotSD is not Eve but it’s not most of the dross from series 11 & 12 neither. Which probably means it’s there with T’floox, neither boring us to death nor making very much sense.
There is a jewel which the Sea Devils need, so they can wipe out the land crawlers, somehow. And they get it during some runni…[Read more]

Flustered hormonal Sally got a telephone call from older Billy, right after she left younger Billy safely next to the Tardis in the police pound, and some angels. I think.
Not sure how the angels then, and only then, moved the Tardis back to Wester Drumlins. Or why. I think Sally had the key. As we now know (but didn’t then) an…[Read more]

@nerys You’re probably right about the Doctor saving Caecilius. My memory of that episode isn’t precise. It was not a terribly convincing reason, but I suppose Moff needed something to explain why Capaldi reappeared.
I don’t think Karen Gillan’s reappearance was ever ‘explained’, though.

@ps1l0v3y0u I thought I had the timeline of Blink! straight in my mind, but now I’m not so sure. I’m pretty sure the Doctor went to Wester Drumlins because it was dangerous and because he’s the Doctor. Where he and Martha got zapped by an Angel, and the cops discovered the Tardis and towed it away. (Maybe they thought it was one of…[Read more]

That sequence is good. I would insert…
Gatwa’s decision to leave was because of an unhappy combination of streaming partner demands and show runner hubris. Also lack of time for writing because in-show development had been trashed by the previous showrunner’s wilful vandalism, which was forced the BBC’s need to take control of show cont…[Read more]

So, assuming the show does come back, does that mean we know where it’s going. If I were Russ I’d be banking some footage of key people.
I think the BP reveal is a kind of placeholder while the BBC/BW negotiate with Disney / AN Other partner.
Once that’s sorted then they will decide on the creative side of the show, and what BPs rol…[Read more]

second thoughts…
The sun shut off can only happen BECAUSE The Doctor is separated from The Tardis.
So. Either The Doctor didn’t read the file. Maybe it happened straight after the Lizard and long bow thing. Or… The Doctor had to risk the shut off to prevent the paradox. Or… the Tardis stitched him up for the same reason.…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent Twelve came out looking like a significant figure from his past that he had failed to save.
But, didn’t the Doctor save him? For me, that was what was so poignant about Twelve choosing that face. Donna’s tearful pleading with the Doctor got him to save Caecilius and his family. I always thought he chose that face as a reminder…[Read more]
