11 March 2014 at 14:42 #26342Anonymous @
Can you remember where you found the images of other Doctors dressed in Six’s costume? One of my Twitter buddies has seen the ones of 8, 10 and 11 and wants to know if there are any others. I’ve just tweeted the one of Capaldi to her and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the one of Eccles on here somewhere as well. I’ve had a quick look on Fan Creativity but couldn’t find it.
I was just listening to Jilted John when I saw the John Barrowman gif. It goes perfectly with the ‘Gordon Is A Moron’ part 🙂
11 March 2014 at 16:09 #26343@fatmaninabox – No.9 and 12 are the only others I’ve seen. Sorry but I don’t have links to best quality versions.

11 March 2014 at 16:53 #26345Anonymous @Many thanks for that. I don’t recall seeing Doc’s 1 to 5 anywhere either.

A new documentary series from BBC Two and BBC America will delve into the real history of science fiction with filmmakers, writers, actors and graphic artists looking back on their experiences and on how their obsession and imagination has taken them into the unknown.

13 March 2014 at 12:35 #26368Happy they’re going to be doing old Doctor Who re-runs finally.
13 March 2014 at 23:28 #2637414 March 2014 at 00:31 #26376Another guest star for Series 8 is announced.
It’s on the official site, so not a spoiler, but here’s the link in case you’re hiding out on Trenzalore until Episode 1. 🙂
14 March 2014 at 02:02 #26377OK, this is someone who I could believe as a genuine Moffat villain.
14 March 2014 at 05:34 #26378I assume this new “villain” will be a recurring character otherwise the publicity does seem a little OTT. So the big question is; is this a “new” villain or a “new-old villain?
(I do not want to spoil anything for those hiding out on Trenzalore. My teenage son has just been grumbling about the lack of surprises in Dr Who. I think I shall send him off to Trenzalore. I am sure the fares would be less than his current food bills.)
Cheers
Janette
14 March 2014 at 09:25 #26381Yes, I think this news is being carpet bombed everywhere (link to G story). Some bits of obvious speculation, but I can’t help thinking this is programmed misdirection. When you consider that SM really hasn’t played the “big bad of the series” card at all yet, you have to wonder about it.
I think some of the pre-publicity for Series 6 talked about Rivers “dark secret”, so you’re right that it’s a bit ambiguous.
Personally, I think she’s Susan. I know this will throw many people who have read my musings on Danny Pink being Susan, but stay with me. I can see a multi timey-wimey plot developing in which, over the course of the series, there are various regenerations of Susan helping or hindering the Doctor as she’s a bit conflicted about him. Eventually they will all unite at the end of the series in a battle to the death with Omega in the episode Day of the Susan. It’ll be smashing.
Sorry – my medication (caffeine and tobacco) hasn’t kicked in this early.
14 March 2014 at 10:04 #26383@phaseshift – well, if they’re counting the Eighth Doctor’s Big Finish adventures as canon, Susan will be extremely conflicted by now. Possibly considering axe-murder, in fact. 🙂
I agree that one of my thoughts was ‘when have we had a big bad of the series’? The closest was Mme Kovarian and the Silence in S6.
On the other hand, it could tie in to all the Pertwee refs in Capaldi’s costume.
14 March 2014 at 12:53 #26385Funny, but when I read Delphox, it made me think of “telephone box”.
But then again, my mind does work that way.
By the way, your post does not appear above, but it does appear in the Activity page…?
14 March 2014 at 13:17 #26386Anonymous @Unlike @phaseshift, I’ve had way too much caffine/baccy and got a bit confused. I thought I’d posted it on Spoilers by mistake and attempted to move it this thread.
It seems I had actually posted it here in the first place and moved it to Spoilers in error.
14 March 2014 at 13:33 #26387Ah – you managed to catchup with the angst around Susan in the BF Eighth Doctor run. Yes – a very sharp axe. 😉
@fatmaninabox @blenkinsopthebrave
I like the DELFA tie in. I actually thought of Delphi, and the Oracle (predestination and the illusion of choice) might be attractive to Moff, although he’s done that in Series 6. It may because I rewatched some Battlestar Galactica a while ago, and those bloody Scrolls of Pythia at Delphi got hammered into my brain.
14 March 2014 at 13:49 #26393For what it is worth, delphox is also a pokemon character, with the ability to see into the future.
Ah, “Battlestar Galactica”. Loved that show. Well, the first two seasons, anyway.
14 March 2014 at 14:42 #26397Even though all this information is on the official site, the more I think about it the more I wonder if this entire discussion might be more appropriately placed on the Spoilers page, for those who are hiding out on Trenzalore?
If so, please feel free to move my posts.
14 March 2014 at 15:10 #26398While I appreciate the thought, this story is pretty much everywhere on the internet with the usual suspects like Dan writing articles, etc. I don’t go to the Spoiler section myself for fear of genuine non-BBC spoilers, so options are limited.
I think everyone has talked about it loosely, and it’s heartening we’ve not even named the actor involved. At the end of the day, a lot of the official BBC stuff is vague and even misleading, so I don’t think we can worry too much.
It might to useful to have a Series 8 speculation thread (above and beyond the Next Doctor thread) to field official stories like this though, and enable some discussion on how we see the future going. I doubt it will be the last given we’re only just a month into filming.
14 March 2014 at 15:18 #26399No worries. I was just erring on the side of caution.
Like the idea of a S8 speculation thread. Would even try to come up with a suitably insane theory to kick it off!
14 March 2014 at 15:45 #2640115 March 2014 at 04:50 #26405@wolfweed does anyone else find it strange that there are 3 mini figures of Amy in that picture? surely they could have included 2 other characters instead? Although quite amusingly the one on the top left looks like a panda.
15 March 2014 at 06:46 #26406Compared to the earlier series of mini figures I am not overly impressed with the lego ones. @The Krynoid Man. Are you sure those three are all meant to be Amy. They are such poor representations I am not certain who they are meant to be. (Or maybe it is just my prejudice against Lego merchandising coming out.)
Cheers
Janette
15 March 2014 at 07:01 #26407Anonymous @I think the one next to Jack (what a remarkable likeness) is supposed to be Donna and the one between River and the Angel is supposed to be Rose. 😕
Personally, I’m indifferent to Lego characters but as a fan of their computer games I’d dearly love to see a Lego:Doctor Who game.
15 March 2014 at 07:01 #26408@janetteb well they all have Ginger hair, so they must be Amy. I ablolutley love Lego but I have to admit these figures look pretty bad. The characters barely even resemble what their supposed to be. The older character options stuff was perfectly fine, why do we even need Lego Doctor Who.
By the way it’s actually @thekrynoidman
15 March 2014 at 07:08 #26409@fatmaninabox I suppose that the one next to Jack could be Donna (although it doesn’t resemble her at all) but the one I between River and the Angel clearly isn’t Rose because she’s blond and the figure is ginger. Also I’m sure that was the outfit Amy wore in The Impossible Astronaut.
15 March 2014 at 10:31 #26413@thekrynoidman @janetteb I tend to agree on the whole. I’ve followed a few of the links put up by people seeking support for their bids on the site, and while I can see they’ve put some work in, the standard of recognition for the custom figures is small. When it comes to the creatures, the problem only gets worse and that’s a problem for anyone as brand recognition conscious as Worldwide. The Cyberman itself on the low right. What is the recognisable characteristic of a Cyberman? It’s got bloody handles on its head! Everyone knows this. As Lego doesn’t like to deviate its moulds too much, you can’t do an awful lot. I think CO gives a much better sense of what they are representing. So while I love tinkering with a bit of lego, I can’t help thinking this will be a non-starter when kids (and collectors) compare them with what they have been getting:

21 March 2014 at 13:35 #26518Anonymous @@wolfweed — that’s incredibly sad news. Aside from his great work on Who — Spider-God one of the best strips ever IMHO, as well as Kroton, but he’s also the man who brought us Axel Pressbutton. I’m well bummed out by that news.
21 March 2014 at 16:39 #26519Anonymous @Tonight’s episode of ‘In Their Own Words: 20th Century Composers’ on BBC4 at 20:00 features Delia Derbyshire and the Big Finish story ‘Cobweb’ begins on Sunday at 18:00 on Radio4Extra repeated at midnight.
22 March 2014 at 11:53 #26527That is sad news about Steve Moore. He was a great one for a twist/shock ending. Must have been all those Thargs Future Shocks for 2000AD. I think he created two of the most compelling support characters in the comic that transcended the medium – with Abslom Daak and Kroton going onto appearances in BF audio (the only other one, I think, was Frobisher).
Personally, I always loved Ship of Fools for Kroton. Apparently. he originally pitched it as a Doctor story, in which he got things horribly wrong. That would have been a bit dark. It still says a lot about Moore though – jet black humour, knowing winks to his audience, and a ending that stopped with you for quite a bit afterwards.
If anyone would like to sample Steve Moores work, Ship of Fools featuring Kroton (a Cyberman who recovered his emotions) can be found here:

22 March 2014 at 11:59 #26528Thanks for the heads up on Cobweb. I’d missed the listing, so I’ll be recording. They’re broadcasting one episode a week – so very old school. 🙂
22 March 2014 at 14:16 #26530Anonymous @I gleaned that bit of info from Twitter ( it does occasionally have it’s uses 😉 ) . For some reason, it wasn’t mentioned in the R4Extra newsletter I subscribe to. 😕
They’re broadcasting one episode a week – so very old school.
And very annoying 👿 Although it denied me some much needed beauty sleep, I quite enjoyed the all-nighters they did in November.
