Matt’s hair has grown back rather quickly.

That obsequious cnut egging Prince Charles on with the Dalek voice needs to be taken out and shot to put us all out of our misery.

These clips without sound were tailor-made for Hugh Dennis on Mock The Week (especially the 2nd one with Jenna and His Madge).

I always thought Camilla looked like she’d be a right laugh to hang out with.  (and her multiple hand-job stills only enhanced that impression!)

I’ve tried all night to find a link for the full Sky News report video, but to no avail!

In it, The Moff says of Charles, ‘He’s accomplished and charming…He’s interested in unusual things. I think he’d be a perfect choice but I believe he’s a little bit busy.’

Also, a later BBC news report said that Moffat was so impressed that he offered the Prince a role as a baddie in the next series…

In one of the weirdest casting decisions of all times, it has emerged that Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures once proposed making a Doctor Who movie with Michael Jackson as the Time Lord. But don’t worry: the studio said that if the Jackson option didn’t turn out it had a great number two in mind – Bill Cosby. The Times reports that the thinking was that the King of Pop had done pretty good business with the film Moonwalker and Cosby was riding high on TV with The Cosby Show. Monkey can’t help but wonder whether Jacko would have made a better Doctor Who villain – some might say he might be a dead ringer for Davros.

Michael Jackson certainly had the ‘alien’ factor, one could argue … but … Bill Cosby?  His whole schtick was being the personification of Normal Man.

After the discussion elsewhere ( @nick on @jimthefish ‘s latest Media Mongers blog) regarding US co-productions or separate productions of DW, I will exhale the most thankful sigh of relief that Paramount didn’t advance this particular idea any further.

Dr Who convention in November – tickets go on sale 11am this Mon. If you sign up for the newsletter should get you eligible for 9am priority booking. Special guests include Matt + current cast +panel with both Bakers (T on sat only) and McCoy.

Am actually geekily excited about this and thinking of going. But the fact that they’re still not stating prices makes me suspect the cost may be prohibitive!  Anyway here’s the link

It looks very good – and fortunately I’m close enough to the Excel that I don’t need to worry about hotels – but yeah, it worries me that they’re not stating the price yet.

More news – this came out a couple of days ago, but got buried in the Royal visit news – loved all the comments on that, thanks to @wolfweed and everyone who postedd the links. Esp @Shazzbot‘s comments (splutter at the keyboard time!). Fave on the G blog was “Bookies have closed betting for the new Dr and his companion”.

TV Choice Awards – public vote – nominations –

Best Drama Series – DW

Best actor – Matt Smith – Up against David Tennant in Broadchurch (yikes!)

Best actress – JLC – up against Olivia Coleman in Broadchurch

Broadchurch itself is also nominated, but in New Drama, so maybe split vote on that less problematic than when DWcame up against Sherlock last year

PS @Shazzbot I wouldn’t have got Danny Cohen either, and yes, he is creepy, but it tends to be a UK establishment habit around any sort of royals, but especially the inner circle ones. Prices are now there (bottom of home page) – may just have gone on or both me and @bluesqueakpip are going blind (possibly from watching too many TV and computer screens!) <wonders what a VIP Tardis ticket gets you… 😉 >

Ticket prices:

Adults: £49.04 (including £4.04 booking fee)

Children: £22.12 (including £2.12 booking fee)

Family (2 adults, 2 children): £110 (including £6 booking fee)

VIP TARDIS ticket prices:

Adults: £95.50 (no booking fee)

Child: £44.25 (no booking fee)

Family (2 adults, 2 children): £218 (no booking fee)

Entry prices look OK.  And I understand the need to limit access to Photo and Autograph sessions, due to demand – but charging £20 and £15 respectively sounds like fleecing the fans to me. Unless they’re donating it to charity.

@scaryb – thanks for posting that link to the convention.  Is the £49.04 price for one day only?  It looks like it – the Features page says ‘Plan your day’ and ‘(The example is based on visiting on Friday 22nd November)’.  I thought they’d be showing a big-screen theatre experience version of the 50th on Saturday night, but apparently not.

And there doesn’t appear to be a multiple-day ticket price.  (assuming there’s enough to do to visit more than one day).  Like you, I also wonder what the VIP extra ticket price entails – it’s not on the FAQs page.

Tickets are per day. Stuff still to be announced. But it finishes at 6.30pm each day. Would be a bit ironic if you had to miss the 50th screening cos you were at the convention, ha! What time’s the 50th going out at, anyone know?

I thought I’d heard something like that too. They def say they’ve got something planned for the evening. Maybe holding off announcing to stop the site going into complete meltdown on Monday! Or they might do it as separately ticketed event.

@Shazzbot They’ve got 10k followers on a Twitter account just for this event – I don’t think they’ll need to worry about shifting tickets on any of the days, LOL

I suspect the charities concerned will be The Doctor Who Pension Fund and The Doctor Who Fund For Interesting But Low Paid Creative Work – that is, the fees will be going to the performers.

Actually, being semi-serious now … are there any other people on this forum who are planning to attend the November convention, and who are coming to London from elsewhere?  It just seems prudent to pool our resources to defray costs (and leave @bluesqueakpip her precious floor space 😆 ).

(Although, @bluesqueakpip – my baked cheesecake comes with a mortar-and-pestle hand-crushed biscuit base – of your choice! – and can be fruit-topped or not depending on your preference.)

Mrs Fish and I are considering going as we’ll be within a stone’s throw of London in November probably. But I’m not sure I’d be that devastated if I missed this. Well, not long after I joined this venerable forum, I suggested an in-person get-together.  That went down like a lead balloon at the time; but in my defense, I was working off the Guardian’s Whaddaya (now YTU) template.  Those guys have regular (and regional) get-togethers, and they always seemed to go quite well for everyone who participated.

So, absent your vision of Amy and Clara in a mud pit ( ! ), one of the things the November convention could provide is a meet-up of DWF people.  Is it really that scary, meeting people with whom we’ve shared so much convivial written conversation online?

Answers on a postcard the size of @bluesqueakpip ‘s available floor space.  😉

@bluesqueakpip – you’re onto a winner, I presume.  Imagine how much dosh you could charge for camping space next to your hob, when people are eyeing up hotel / B&B costs in central London.  (or similar for outer London + travel costs … honestly, this is your year for cash-in-hand extras ! )

I’ve got a one bedroom flat in North London, so have a double bed, a sofa, and a couple of air beds available. I have actually put up about 10 people once (although they were all quite familiar with each other so didn’t mind).

I don’t mind meeting up. I can usually manage the odd grunt during a conversation. But is everyone planning on Friday or Saturday tickets?

I just know they’ll kick everyone out at 6:30 on the Saturday and then the screening is gonna cost £25 or so more to get back in.

@craig -Well, if they do plan to charge extra for the screening – when I say I’m close to the Excel, I mean I’m about half an hour away by public transport.  So getting back to my place, from the Excel, to watch the telly is a feasible proposition. Other propositions are not available. 😈

Advantage of Saturday: Tom Baker’s there, the screening may be included in the price.

Advantage of Friday: fewer families, probably less crowded.

Advantage of Sunday: the day after the 50th has been screened, so we could all talk it over.

How many others reading here tonight, and over the weekend, will be up for buying one-day tickets for Saturday, and [perhaps … just perhaps] arranging for an ex-Excel meet-up in a congenial local pub?

If screening is included in price (or you can fit us all in) then Saturday could also include bonkers discussions down the pub afterwards.

I’m over an hour away from the Excel unfortunately, unless it’s being shown at 8:00, or nothing’s happening on the Saturday after 4:00.

The other option is a cinema that’s showing it. We could all pile round to one of them in the evening.

I didn’t see the Guardian story about the Paramount/Michael Jackson thing but I’m surprised that’s new “news”. They were pitches and “blue sky thinking” sessions. Danny Devito and Steve Martin were also people mentioned who probably wouldn’t have done it. 🙂

The world of leaf “could have beens” in Doctor Who lore is legendary, even if you take out the ones that aren’t true. For instance, long before it became a popular post Star Wars April Fool gag, it is true that Disney did try to buy Doctor Who lock stock and barrel from the BBC (recorded history, the lot). First in 82-83 and second in 90.

No objection to arranging some kind of meeting at all. The worst that can happen is that there is just a prolonged, awkward silence. I think Saturday might be the best day because of the potential viewing but it will also be the busiest I reckon. Plus Tom Baker weirdness too. Sunday might be good because of the extreme high of having just seen the anniversary ep….

So, the issue is:  which day do we think would be best to convene?

Then find the biggest screen poss to see it on! haha at possibility of all of us piling into @bluesqueakpip‘s flat to watch! (it IS bigger on the inside I presume?). So long as it’s somewhere with no ARSE fans in the vicinity – imagine watching with various people booing the screen or muttering in corners that the cybermen/daleks/zygons are WRONG! 😉

I’d be up for a meetup on site and then see what happens.

@bluesqueakpip – that is the 64 dollar question.  @scaryb told us in her first post on this topic that if we signed up to the newsletter, we’d get 9am priority booking.  I’ve done so, and I hope everyone here has also done so.

At most what we can do is to plan on a day – Saturday, it seems – to try and book for, and convene back on this site once we have more information on how many people were so lucky or not.

No matter how many different days that this forum’s members manage to get access to, I’m sure we can still co-ordinate a meeting-up date to discuss and theorise bonkersly about the show.  I for one am looking forward to any one of Nov 22-23-24 for that opportunity!

(I’m still working on the Dr Who themed feast. Not so sure about the fish fingers in custard but I’m sure the kids will be willing to give it a try.)

Next weekend sees the Doctor Who Prom. The session on Sat 13th are being broadcast live on Radio 3 from 7:30pm.

They are being filmed for broadcast on BBC One, but the broadcast date and time are to be confirmed (the “event” proms need more editing than traditional Proms, which don’t have monsters, special effects and madcap stunts.)

Hey everyone 🙂 My lack of work-life balance has eased off slightly and I have learned how to make home-made margueritas – hurrah!

The convention in November is definitely something I’m up for and a Who Forum meet up sounds fun.

The prices are relatively reasonable compared to the outrageous US TV show conventions, where you can pay £75 for a photo op on-top of the several hundreds of pounds ticket price.

The Prom is indeed very soon now! I missed getting tickets unfortunately. There are standing tickets available on the day(s) but the queues may be very long I suspect! Happy to hear they’ll be broadcasting at some point.

Sorry you didn’t get tickets – I was foiled as well, and I’m not going to be able to go to the convention. 🙁 Although I would have been envious, I was hoping you’d got them because it would have been great if you had a mobile device on you for you to “live blog” at periods “Holy crap … a Ood just walked past me!”. 🙂

Matt Smith did his turn at the last one, and when I read the programme and saw they would be performing the Habanera from Carmen I had the mad notion that they would spotlight him in the back, playing the triangle. That would be both mad and excellent.
