Entirely coincidental, otherwise I’d claim David Walliams (Gibbis in The God Complex) in the foreground.

Hello @bunyonsnipe – goodness, most new commenters on this site come first to this comfy sofa to say ‘hello’, but you have dived into the deep end with posts on specific topics right off the bat.

Seeing as you’re new, please do check out all the blogs and forum topics as there is a wealth of information as to how this site operates, and the ethos of the gloriously knowledgeable commenters we have here.

You seem ‘exercised’ by the portrayal of the Ice Warriors in ‘Cold War’ – it would be helpful to us if you expanded on that in that thread, roping in examples of BG (Before Gap; ie., pre 1996 and the McGann movie) and/or AG (ie., After Gap and since Ecclestone became the Doctor) as comparisons.

Any ideas you have, or knowledge you have gleaned from mainstream media, about the Next Doctor should go into that thread but hopefully with a bit more analysis and thought.

Oooh 20 minute break in the Prom. Already had a couple of “moments”, one with the final chapter of Amelia Pond, laughed at Vastra and Strax hosting, and said a little prayer for the sanity of @chickenelly if they are listening because of the Rings of Akhaten sequence at the end of the first half (I enjoyed).

I wasn’t that sure about Song for 50, but the second half was quite the nostalgia fest. I do hope they keep Davison’s intro in the televised version. It sounds as if he’s as keen on the “classic” label as we are. 🙂 Go BG and AG my man. He was on cracking form though.

Mrs Phaseshift, who is more of a muso than an old Doctor Who fan is convinced that a lot of the later medley of classic who music (around the sixth and seventh Doctor) is based on Neptune – “The Magician” from The Planets suite.

I thought it a bit strange that the cast kept coming on and introducing themselves “Hello – My name’s Matt Smith, and I play the Doctor”, until I suddenly thought that was probably for the benefit of normal Radio 3 listeners who were probably spluttering their Ovaltine crying “What is this nonsense – where’s Wagner!”.

@Shazzbot @scaryb I’m guessing it may have been a scattershot email, with a few amends, sent to every forum, but you never know.

It was from The Digital & Communities Manager and he did say “we’re always happy to support businesses that complement ours, so we potentially have the opportunity for guest posting and product reviews going forward. If you’re interested in this please contact me.”

As it’s in Australia and we’re still mostly a UK based site, I don’t think product reviews would work (region specific DVDs etc) unless @janetteb wants to do them all (which reminds me, no sign of @whohar or @blenkinsopthebrave for a while).

It would be interesting to try and get some of you writing reviews and posts for the BBC though (with the occassional freebie) and I will follow it up for you all. You never know…

@janetteb – re your remark about 45c heat in SA – On one trip to Oz, I went to Adelaide and fell in love with it.  My Ozzie friends all thought I was nuts (‘it’s just a country town!’ – this was in the late 80s), but I thought it was great.  I did a wine country tour and on the coach out of town, the landscape looked eerily like some Southern California landscapes – to the degree that I took some pictures there and compared to local shots when I got home, and they could have been the same hills.

If I’d ever emigrated, Adelaide would have been my preferred destination.  Are you anywhere near there?

@Shazzbot, we live between Adelaide, which is indeed an overgrown country town with delusions of grandeur, and the Barossa Valley. Baring the climate, deathly hot in summer, freezing in winter because heating in S.A. is virtually unheard of, Adelaide is a great city to live in.

That’s really interesting about previous Doctors not talking to each other about being the Doctor. Especially since both Smith and Tennant mentioned T giving S advice (well along general lines anyway, go and enjoy it). But whether they discussed each other’s take on it after Matt was in post… that’s a different thing.  Sounds like TB is leaving a lot of opinion unsaid 😉

Just a general question. Does anyone know if there are any alternative Ray Cusick Dalek designs in circulation. I did a quick Google but nothing showed up. Just interested in the ‘could have beens’ if there are any. (Although I have found a rather quirky and retro Japanese take on the Daleks…)

@jimthefish – I doubt it – the legend is that he worked out the Daleks on the back of napkins while they were all at lunch in the BBC canteen.

Which means the unwanted designs probably got used to wipe off the tomato ketchup.
