@arbutus Couldn’t agree more. Murray Gold elevates every emotion and in his own way is an incredible story teller.

@missy, @arbutus and @doctordani I am currently (finally) doing a rewatch of 42 if indeed i have watched it at all and I agree with all that has been said re’ Martha. When she was allowed to be the Companion and not unrequited lover she was excellent. Personally too I always felt that if the Doctor had to fall in love with a companion Martha was…[Read more]

@missy @arbutus Just to butt in on the whole Martha thing, yeah I struggled with her too. As you’ve mentioned RTD was always too concerned with making Ten wear his heart on his sleeve, and having him fall in love at the drop of a hat. To be honest I find RTD’s characters overly emotional in pretty much everything he writes. That’s not to say that…[Read more]

I like Martha , although she is not my favourite companion , I enjoyed her time with the Doctor. I think from the speed of it ,that she had a crush on him rather than really being in love with the Doctor. After all he saved her life and the lives of most of the people in the hospital the first time she met him. H…[Read more]

That might have been the problem. All I wanted to do, was shake Martha and slap the Doctor.
You are quite right arbutus, it was the writer’s fault.
I also felt that the Doctor was sentimental – Tennents Doctor that is – whereas, Eccleston’s and Smith’s Doctor, wasn’t. Niether, for that matter is Capaldi’s.Cheers,
Missy

Join the club! I always found Martha very irritating. Wasn’t mad about Rory and Amy either, but they were better than Martha.
Loved Rose and Donna

@arbutus @thedentistofdavros I was also blown away by the soundtrack in Heaven Sent; it was incredibly moving. For the last few weeks I have been using it for choreography in my classes.
Watching a lot of classic Who you get used to the music and rhythm. The music from classic Who has a contemplative and “sciency” sound that has a late 70…[Read more]

It’s all down to contracts and renewal dates but the chances are that it’ll be pulled from Canada too at the earliest opportunity.
Yes, I imagine that the contract runs out at some future date and then we will lose it as well.
Gah, my hopes hopes dashed. Oh well. If I’m going to do any more Doctor Who binge-watching, I’d bet…[Read more]

It is a source to total bafflement to me that the likes of HBO and Showtime are yet to grasp that they have a global audience and need to start cutting the middlemen out of their non-US operations. I shall continue to cheerfully bootleg their stuff until they stop requiring me to give money to Rupert Murdoch and his mutant spawn to see…[Read more]

Was it just me, or was there a piece of classical Who music infused in Heaven Sent?

@arbutus I agree, I think the show has done best when they pick an unknown actor. Matt Smith is a perfect example, HE WAS THE DOCTOR, and no one had even heard of him. My wish for the show is that Peter Capaldi stays on for another four years at least. The chemistry between Capaldi and River was brilliant, I wish they could have a whole sea…[Read more]

@arbutus. I had all the series on my lap. *grins* I must add, the I actually did not like The Rebel Flesh, or the Almost People. Nothing wrong with the cast, but I simply couldn’t abide these two. AND, I forgot to mention that in series 9 part one, The girl who died and the girl who lived – I could really live wishout.
Unfortuantely, I don’t…[Read more]

Hello everyone
@missy Well that was definitely worth the wait. I agree with you on most points and am glad to see that you rate series 1 so highly, I agree with you on series 2 and 3 but have to say that I don’t like partners in crime a great deal. Series 5 is personally my favourite Matt smith series so I am glad to see you like it (I liked…[Read more]

@missy Great list, so thorough!
@thedentistofdavros is right, Doctor Who is so unique and wonderful that each list is so different from each fan. For example I really enjoyed The Rings of Akhatan and Hide
@arbutus I like your classic Who list, and I also noticed my list included a lot of Moffat, including my favourite episode, Heaven Sent.…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave You read my mind.
@bluesqueakpip @whisht @ichabod @jimthefish @arbutus and everyone else. The first entry in our Chris Chibnall retrospective is now up.
I’m sticking to Doctor Who first but we can do Torchwood as well if there is interest. We gotta do something to fill in…[Read more]

@arbutus I suspect that my lack of interest in Donna so far is just from lack of experience with the character. As I said before being fairly new to the series Donna’s run as companion has just started for me. I don’t dislike her and hopefully she will grow on me as Martha did.
I, too, thought that SM handled the Captain Jack character a little…[Read more]
