@janetteb Um, yes. I might have found Lux more alarming if he wasn’t so intensely irritating. Don’t know how you’d find ‘Cool World’, the main character was seductive Holli Wood, voiced by Kim Basinger, so much more appealing (in my view) eben if she was a ruthless femme fatale. I think sometimes the success of concepts like ‘cartoo…[Read more]

the food. I can’t speak from experience, just observe that somethings were available in the 60’s are not available now. Funny you mention ‘boiling’… until the early 70’s you might still observe people with boils, plaster or no. Urrhhh!!!
But, in the late 70’s I was taken to Italy and my tastebuds were reeducated. Thank you.

Then someone spectaculated that the special had already been filmed in secret.
I’ve heard the same rumour. It would be hilarious if true.
But yeah, too much noise, not enough actual information because:
Cash needs clicks, and clicks need content. And the content doesn’t even have to be that good.

hmm lots of desperate sounds from the sheep pen.
i and The Independent basically reprinted the ‘no actor will do it’ story and blamed it on The Sun.
There was a ‘fans’ questionnaire: who was Rose at end of Reality War? Who should the next Doctor be? Will The Abzorbaloff return?
Then someone spectaculated that the special…[Read more]

so same old, same old?
I guess. Alot of the Who fan channels are protesting a bit too much, so there are a few logic fails on their parts about why it is not true. We’ll find out when we find out.
But…I did discover that previous Christmas specials weren’t filmed until the September, so there’s a bit of a bigger open…[Read more]

I think the gap in actual Who news (Whows?) and the accompanying content vacuum mean the DW sites (and there are many) are scrabbling around for something, anything, to say. They often have quite significant followers and need to stay relevant so any minor rumour is jumped on as if it were something significant.
And talking…[Read more]

… or have ‘the rooms’ only just woken up to all the Virtual Reality/Alternate Universe clues? Mavity, V’linx, REG, song and dance, unDoctor-like reactions… we were even shown another ‘fake’ VR/AU within the one that’s been there since… NOT WBY but The Star Beast… ‘The Boss’ remember?
Why can’t The Doctor sort out the world…[Read more]

Yeah, it’s a pretty unpleasant planet right now. And if Who is set in the here and now, it can make it less escapist, for the reasons you mentioned.
An alt-universe would have several advantages for storytelling. You could have one that’s similar to ours but where the Doctor doesn’t know everything about it, even down to Is there a…[Read more]

@janetteb It sounds as if your stay in ICU was a lot less pleasant ( and several times longer) than mine, for which you have my sympathy. In fact I’d paid extra for a single room rather than a shared one, just to avoid the possibility a roommate might want to watch rugby, or soaps, or something equally annoying on TV. Only had one visit…[Read more]

well, you all seem to be taking The Darkness at The Edge of Moff in good heart.
In the words of Graham Chapman, ‘lucky we didn’t say anything about the dirty knife…’

@janetteb I think the difference with ICU is that, in the latter, the patients are receiving the best care and they have rights. And also, either fighting for their lives or in a state of relaxed consciousness. So I think it might be less horrific for them. (I’ve never been in ICU, other than maybe for 24 hours after my heart operation, but…[Read more]

the anniversary is there to keep the show in the eye-line.
it is about Billie/David which was always on the cards, surely?
New Earth has Billie/David possessed by Cassandra. Hmmm. Camp.
it’s one or two fingers yer face for the average online Who presence who doesn’t like women Doctors/RTD/or indeed the entire show.…[Read more]

@whohar Thanks for that clarification!
So, refresh my memory: Was “New Earth” the first episode in David Tennant’s first season as Doctor Who? As I recall, after Christopher Eccleston’s regeneration, Tennant made his first full-length appearance in the Christmas special, and then onward and upward.
@janetteb, I’m with you. I was not overly…[Read more]

Two other ones, ie not the two Dalek eps that were recently found. I have no details but Film is Fabulous (who uncovered the two Dalek Masterplan eps) seems very confident.
I guess it’s the first Tenant ep proper, but it does seem odd to make such a song and dance about it. Tieing it into an announcement about the…[Read more]

Gina Rinehart sounds ‘interesting’. Nice family.
Just lost a court case hasn’t she? I saw the headline this am, strange synchronicity… unless you also saw the headline.
Yes, you would think the New Earth thing might be kick-starting something about David and Billie, the Christmas special, or the shape of Who to come. I must brace m…[Read more]

@janetteb Well nothing could be nicer than to have maple syrup remind you of me. It is yummy and even here it is expensive so making our own saves a bit but is mostly fun and a way to celebrate trees and spring.

@winston @janetteb Thanks. Unless the storm has an unexpected sting in the tail, it looks as if it’s missed us, all we got was a lot of rain (though not in torrential amounts). Storms seem to keep causing chaos to the north of us, to the east and south-east, but the last one that hit us here was three years ago. So we’re either well over…[Read more]

@janetteb Update on our cyclone: No wind yesterday, rain started falling gently about 6pm, steady rain by midnight, had stopped by 9a.m. this morning, no wind, now we’ve got steady (but not heavy) rain and light gusts of wind. According to the forecast we should be having a severe southwesterly gale right about now, maybe we live in a shelt…[Read more]

@janetteb Thanks. Apparently it’s a very dramatic one. The last few that came this way caused devastation to the north of us and the south-east of us and managed to miss Auckland. Hopefully this one will too (miss us, I mean, not cause devastation elsewhere 🙂 We’ll know if we’re OK tomorrow morning.
The last few days have been love…[Read more]
