Hi @janetteb, thanks for your kind comment.

Apparently Anah was not killed, she was being kept in stasis.   I wasn’t sure if she was injured, but, checking the transcript from Chrissie’s site, it appears not.

How much of the Street was a party to Me’s deception I don’t know, but I would think very few.   It seems from witnesses that Rigsy was…[Read more]

Hi @janetteb and @blenkinsopthebrave — glad to see you’re both hanging in there. RL is largely fine, if verging on the weird at times. Hope you’re both doing well too. And yes, I’ll accept that challenge. Will try to come up with a portrait of 15 soon (might even do 14 as well).

And just an addendum to the post about the Whoniverse above, it…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave  Thanks for that. I will probably have to wait until I get the DVDs to watch the show because I don’t have Disney and don’t intend to get it. My kids are always asking me what I want for Christmas so I will send them my list. I am still very excited for the anniversary but I am also used to waiting a little bit.

    I hope…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent That’s interesting. I really preferred “Heaven Sent” to “Hell Bent” … which fell slightly short of the mark, for me. Despite Moffat’s wonderful writing, and superb acting by Capaldi and Coleman, what should have been an emotionally intense sendoff for Clara didn’t quite come together for me. I’ve never been able to pinpoint why.…[Read more]

@janetteb   Small islands, like many remote communities, develop their own informal and even ‘quaint’ ways.   Pubs in New Zealand country districts used to be known for having a ‘back door’ to the bar for use after official closing time, for example.   (And I’m sure the same applied in most countries).    Rising sea levels would not be good for…[Read more]

@janetteb  @blenkinsopthebrave   That explains things.   I was a bit puzzled how to respond for a while.

Wouldn’t be the first time someone’s done that.   I’ve done it, and much worse.   🙂

    I promise I’m not blenkinsopthebrave    🙂

@janetteb I read your reply to my comment on Akinola and the referendum. Alas, my identity has apparently disappeared and been transfigured ( is it in a timey wimey sort of way…?)

  • blenkinsopthebrave replied to the topic Dr Who News (5)

Yes, @janetteb, his scoring was probably one of the best parts of the Chibnall years, but watching the new trailers, it becomes clear that the tone of Akinola’s music just would not fit RTD’s frentic vision.  So, to that extent, the return to Murray Gold makes perfect sense.

P.S. The referendum outcome seemed sadly predictable.

@janetteb   Thanks.   We did enjoy our holiday.   That wasn’t Mrs D’s biggest drama – three days after the start of our holiday she drove her little hire car into a power pole, breaking it into three pieces.   Mrs D got away with a slight graze on her neck (seat belt) and a night in the hospital under observation.   The poor little car ended up…[Read more]

  • @janetteb I agree with you about Mother Nature. Sadly, things have felt apocalyptic here this summer.

  • Dentarthurdent replied to the topic The Zygon Inversion

@winston  @janetteb    Yes, I’m more tolerant of anomalies if I like the characters or the story.   I’m much more likely to notice errors if I’m not just a little emotionally invested in the fate of the characters.   (And at worst I find myself nit-picking the plot as a sort of revenge on the bad writing/acting).   Kill the Moon was an exception…[Read more]

@janetteb I don’t think the American writers’ and actors’ strikes will affect these specials at all, for the following two reasons.

    1. Filming of these specials must have finished ages ago! They’ve had enough time to make two whole series by now!!

    2. Doctor Who isn’t a US production. They’re just getting funding from Disney+.

@dentarthurdent and @janetteb    I don’t know why I am so accepting of everything on Doctor Who, and I am, but I guess that is why I like it so much. There are other shows and movies I can’t watch because I am always taken out of the story when I notice things that are wrong. If I know about the subject and they get it wrong I notice and  the mis…[Read more]

@janetteb   I think you sum it up quite well.   I notice Terry Pratchett is at some pains (on occasion, in his Discworld novels) to establish and comply with the peculiar laws of physics in a ‘strong magical field.’

The giant stompy robot bothers me a bit too.   As does the dinosaur in the Thames, you can only carry the ‘somebody else’s probl…[Read more]

@janetteb @winston   I also like the stories where ‘everyone lives’.   As long as it’s not too predictable.   For all the good characters, at least, I don’t much care about the villains.   (Except Missy.   Extraordinary writing by Moff and charisma by Michelle Gomez that could make everyone love a ruthless megalomaniac).

Of course this always ra…[Read more]

@janetteb  One of the things I like most about Moffat (and I like a lot)  is his everyone lives stories. Osgood is a great character and I am glad she lived, or did she?

I guess the Zygons are living with us now and I think 2 of them are my neighbours but if they keep those suckers and venom sacks to themselves I’m alright with it.

@winston   @janetteb    I’m afraid the problem is us, all of us.   Just too many damn humans.   We breed like lemmings, the only difference is, we ought to know better.   And lemmings can only devastate a small area, humans being much bigger and more powerful and cleverer can devastate the whole planet.

The answer would be simple, if every coup…[Read more]

We live on the southern part of the island, which fortunately has been spared the fires. The island is large, with a population of more than three quarters of a million people. Some areas, like the west coast, have been hard hit by the fires, but nothing like the apocalyptic images you might have seen on the news elsewhere in…[Read more]

@janetteb     Yes, it is eerily quiet.

Neverwhere (the DVD) was okay, quite a bit darker than Good Omens, but with a good streak of Gaiman fantasy running through it.    I found Door (the heroine) quite charming, the two villains Croup and Vandemar suitably repulsive, the Marquis de Carabas engaging.    And the angel Islington suitably menacing…[Read more]
