@jphamlore  I think the Doctor through much of the episode was hoping River Song would recognize him but did not want to do something completely obvious that would announce his presence such as pulling out the sonic screwdriver.

I thought it turned into a bit of a game for him — how far would things have to go for her to catch on?  Some fans a…[Read more]

What a delightful thought!  Making good use of his Heaven Sent experience in breaking down the unwanted rock around and between the towers, only with tools this time . . . tuning them, now, that would take real genius!

@jphamlore  Clara did return to Gallifrey in an instant of time and then had herself put back in her body for her death at Trap Street, so the Time Lords were none the wiser.

Ah — okay, yes, if she pops out of time at a point shortly after her escape with CapDoc, the TLs wouldn’t know that she’d been gallivanting about time and space with…[Read more]

@puroandson  Puro Solo,  the little reference to Clara’s tune when River begs the Doctor to find a loophole and he says “sometimes things end”,

Okay, that answers my major question: this is CapDoc *post-Clara*, having traveled back in time to a Christmas season between Angels Take Manhattan and Silence in the Library.  This is the echo we need…[Read more]

@jphamlore  Losing Moffat both as showrunner and lead writer would be a tremendous loss for the show. In some sense I think he is speaking to us as fans, telling us to enjoy the moments we have left with him.

Good point — and whether he’s telling us that or not, it certainly is my intention to do just that!  Though another 24 years might be a t…[Read more]

@puroandson  @pedant  I think it’s my inability to pronounce ‘Orgoreyn’ correctly.
How did the author intend it to be pronounced?

I think it’s “OR-go-rain”.  She had a linguist friend generate a language for that book, I think (or maybe it was for another one later on . . .).  I can ask about the pronunciation, if you like, via e-mail.…[Read more]

Not that Doctor Who can get Cumberbatch…

Cumberbatch as Rassilon- now there’s a great prospect- the role could certainly do with that sort of boost when it returns. But if he is available (in this fantasy world), then why not as the Doctor? Much as I like Capaldi in the role, if Cumberbatch was available, regenerate away :-)…

Would the neural block have worked on Clara without a pulse?  In her time-looped state she might have just reset, or it may not have had time to work – it seemed to take several seconds for the Doctor to succumb to it.  It depends on how much of Clara’s system is reset in her timeloop (she is her own personal traveling O…[Read more]

@morpho  @jphamlore  … it really seems to me that losing Clara personally isn’t what bothers him so much as I read it, it’s his failure in his duty of care – so if he knew she was safe, he’d be OK without her. It’s not say Rose we’re talking, where his loss was much more personal.  [I 100% agree with this.]

@jphamore  Moffat in Hell Bent is consciously laying the foundations for what he knows will be the last classic series story, the one that brings together all of the threads of the Doctor’s youth, Rassilon, the Matrix, etc. . . . when it is done, Moffat will leave all possibilities open for the next showrunner to create his or her own version of…[Read more]

the Matrix …  It needs an agent to go out there and explore. It needs a Doctor

Interesting idea. The Doctor did tell Clara that the Sliders talked to him when he went into it as Matrix in his youth, though he was referring to himself in the third person when he did so, and spoke as if it was a matter of hearsay.

Logically, Rassilon’s mind should have been uploaded to the Matrix.

Since we know that Rassilon describes himself as the ‘resurrected’, and that people scooped out of time don’t have heartbeats, he was almost certainly uploaded to something; then reconstructed out of it as needed. However, he seems to have an independent post-mortem e…[Read more]
