    @lisa I’m so glad I’m not imagining Clarent, I was beginning to think I was misremembering Arthurian legend

  • jphamlore replied to the topic Under The Lake

    @lisa: I have no idea if Sir Charles Lyell was a Freemason. The rumors of such a membership are more associated apparently with Charles Darwin. But just read Lyell’s biography say here. The man had connections. His background gave him knowledge of all the sciences and mathematics. I view him more as a peak rationalist of his…[Read more]

    @lisa  GOOD POINT!  I’m also going to go back and look.

    The Doctor is clearly the Merlin/Magician/Fool in this. River said wizards in stories always turned out to be him.  (:

    Possibly the big white box is the resting place of Merlin said to be in the waters of Avalon.

    @Lisa @PhaseShift I’m glad Musk named his company after Tesla too. Cos it means $1 million for the Tesla museum

    I love what Musk is doing, he’s one of our great modern pioneers. I’d like to think I am too, but I don’t have any money 🙂

    @lisa  @ichabod    I agree that the terms ‘voting’ and ‘democracy’ which Colony Sarff used were probably a somewhat inaccurate approximation to what was actually going on.  As Lisa realised, I was thinking in terms of a collective entity analogous to a hive of bees, but whereas bees only form a single physical identity when they swarm in the pro…[Read more]

    @lisa   I did wonder about that big snake . . . They were voting, though, it said.  Do collectives have individual votes?  Majority rule?

    @lisa

    I’ve added a possibly spoiler alert to your post.

    @lisa and @others

    The Radio Times story does contain a comment from Patrick Ness which spoilerphobes might prefer to avoid.

    I hope there is some continuity with actors from previous Coal Hill based episodes. As soon as I read the news in the news thread I thought of Sarah Jane but I suspect with S.M at the helm it will have a very different vibe.

    @lisa I would definitely vote for a ghostly return of Seb.

    cheers

    @lisa   Danny could be the ghost haunting Coal Hill School . . .

  • ichabod replied to the topic The Witch’s Familiar

    @mudlark  @denvaldron  @lisa   Colony Sarf is just Colony Sarf, not “Colony Sarf #1” or “Colony Sarf pal of Davros”, which suggests that maybe CS is in fact unique in its sarf-ness.  Perhaps there are similar “colonies” of other animal forms out there somewhere — ?  Then “Colony Rat” (what’s Welsh for “bat”?) might decide to avenge the rubb…[Read more]

    @lisa

    I wonder maybe if Mr. Sarff just had some innovative notions in regards
    to his personal life choices?

    Why not?  I guess it would have depended on how they voted – they are a democracy, after all.  I have a feeling, though, that they might have been a wee bit offended by your implied assumption in referring to them as ‘Mr’    🙂

    @lisa  @ichabod

    There’s a Mrs. Sarff that has democratically voted to hunt Missy down to avenge her late SO.

    I love the image that you conjure up, but since Sarff entity is/was a colony , I suspect that this kind of thing would remain strictly within the community.  Think in terms of a hive of bees or an ant or termite colony, but one in which…[Read more]
