@Bluesqueakpip  And more applause re the banana conundrum!  Point, er, taken — ah — hang on a minute —

I like your psycho stalker boy/girlfriend theory too, plus very likely a long and bumpy lifetime ride for the Doctor over there in the fast lane of sex; where at the moment CapDoc is not even driving on the tarmac but pretending there is no l…[Read more]

@Lisa  You know, I can’t tell whether she’s *really* turned on by the Doctor (at this point, anyway), or just messing with him for fun — or both at the same time!  Bananas, you know.  (What’s so crazy about bananas, anyway?)

@Lisa

There was certainly some flirty thing going on with Missmaster and so what is that about?

As I said elsewhere, years of subtext suddenly became very much text. 😈

Personally, I go for the Master/Missy as ‘that ex-boyfriend who turns out to be a psycho stalker’. But whether the Doctor is flat-out still not admitting that they were…[Read more]

@BarbaraLefty Thank you I raise a glass in return to you and @all for being such a wonderful community. I love all the discussions happening though I have not had much time to participate of late. Busy with organising the program for the writers festival.

@lisa I love that tardigrade, (water bear) photo. I put prints of it on the boys’ science…[Read more]

@lisa

You’re not the only one to think ‘tardigrades – hmmm, sounds like TARDIS’.

The fact that the research project seeing if they could survive in space used all caps is just a teeny bit suspicious…

Lovely little animals, BTW. I don’t think they could ever be a Doctor Who monster, because they’re undeniably (if microscopically) cute. 😉

just wanted to pop in, on this Friday night, to raise a glass to the beautiful minds here, to @purofilion and her voracious wit, to @ichabod, in sadness and remembrance, to @bluesqueakpip and timey wimey par excellence, to @lisa and tardigrades , to @ScaryB and @janetteB and @arbutus, to our mods and their dedication, @krynoidman and delightful…[Read more]

Cheers peeps (@Arbutus, @lisa, @ScaryB). I’m pretty sure it owned something to D Adams, but can’t think what exactly. I guess, science-wise, I’ve been through the lovely speculating, theorising, part and I’ve been through the doing some experiments but mainly being puzzled by why things don’t work, and now my day consists of being within limits of…[Read more]

@Schamster @lisa

Your posts got me thinking. I was wondering if, perhaps, CapDoc had known where Gallifrey was hidden at the end of tDotD, he may have even been the one who hid it. Missy was showing off by saying the co-ordinates to show that she knew where it had been. (The Master had been sent back into the timelock with Rassilion in tEoT.) Th…[Read more]

Just dashing through, but have to agree with @lisa – lovin @Barbaralefty‘s turn of phrase. Another poster, of several regulars  in here, who make me splutter over my keyboard!  (You know who you are 🙂 )

@purofilion — Yes, he left the moon problem to them, and nobody melted down into a puddle or went off to cry in a corner, and that *alone* is (still!) major.  Somehow commentors avoid pointing this out — it’s all “Oh, he’s so mean”!  Good (Time) Lord.  Kinderf**kinggarten on line, sometimes.  CapDoc is impatient and impulsive himself, and he was…[Read more]

@lisa  Yikes!  That brain!  That is an amazing story, but they do come thick and fast these days from what looks like a sort of Golden Age of archaeology.  Well, it had better be, because there are those who are busy trying to either destroy the ancient past as fast as possible, or sell it off piece by piece before the professionals get to it.  Th…[Read more]

@Lisa Mwahahaha – great video link. What is it with Scottish Doctors and drag? 😆

@lisa — Oh, of course, I’m a dolt!  It’s a space/time SHIP, right?  The Tardis undoubtedly keeps a ship’s log, though apparently nobody since TomDoc seems to have bothered to ever look at it.

@lisa — I’ve only now just realised that you’ve posted this Chabon piece. Thanks for that. Very interesting indeed.

@craig, @scaryb @ anyone else interested in Scottish literature — there’s a great little documentary about the mighty William McIlvanney available on iPlayer at the moment. It’s well worth checking out. Left me feeling a bit teary…[Read more]

Sad that literacy was so exclusive then.

It was largely seen as a job skill. Certainly the levels of literacy (where there are records that can be used to assess whether people could sign their own names) rise sharply in cities like London or Cambridge – where there would be a lot of jobs that needed literate workers.

Certainly, when you…[Read more]

@lisa

why do we refer to this period as being so dark anyway?

For my answer to this question (for what it is worth), see my response to  @ichabod  above.  You must have posted just after I logged on, otherwise I would have referenced you as well.

@lisa   Heck, I’d skip the Dark Ages altogether, if I were invited there, or almost anywhere else, in realty.  Plague; typhus and typhoid fever; bad water, so lots of beer instead (and if you had chronic pain from an injury, beer was about it for that, and pretty much everybody in the workaday world had injuries all the time, from lots of work w…[Read more]

@lisa I also prefer to be the viewer in the Doctor’s stories most of which are great, afterwards. I am certain that when chained to a rock in the desert without the vibro cutters Clara was wishing that she had opted to stay home. However if I had the offer of a trip back to the dark ages for some first hand historical research without the…[Read more]

SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER...

@lisa  Yeah, I’m gad nobody saw my pathetic attempts to stop typing and go the hell to sleep last night . . . well, this morning, and not all that early either.

It sometimes takes the form of a sort of brain-fever, doesn’t it?  Love Moffat et al, for writing tv for people with very hot brains . . . and everybody else as well.
