    @mersey. No, I haven’t read the Cursed Child, I’m waiting for the book to come out. Scripts don’t interest me.

    @time-lord-alvey. Welcome to the forum. Although I really loved all the Doctors, thr twelth is my favourite.

    @Mersey

    It’s a playscript. Even the Telegraph article is basically saying ‘Who are these idiots who don’t realise that a playscript isn’t like a novel?’ You can’t read a script like a book – you have to think of a playscript as the skeleton of the story, with the set, effects and performances as the flesh and blood. If you’re reading it for fun,…[Read more]

    @puroandson  I think Clara’s fast talking shtick was more annoying (at least to me) when she first met Eleven rather than her two series with Capaldi. As for wanting to have it all. Why on earth not?
    I do. I want to be the flying sprite and the witty academic. I can’t but I want to. And I should for it’s in the wanting that we learn to know our tr…[Read more]

    Yah — great line!  I liked Danny, and wanted just a bit more dimension to him, a scene or two of him with other people in his life; orphans have friends, and soldiers have old army buddies, but they never gave him any time as himself, on his own and in his own milieu outside of work, which I think would have h…[Read more]

    @mersey

    Now there you are very wrong.  Not only have I seen all the Doctors, but I saw the very first episode of Doctor Who, in November 1963.

    @ichabod

    I couldn’t agree more, you put it far better than I would.

    @missrori

    My compliments on your taste. Unfortunately I cannot comment on comics, I never liked them.

    @mersey   There is an old saying: “Don’t shoot the messenger” A friend sent it to a friend, who sent it to me, and I did say that I wasn’t sure of its accuracy.

    @jimthefish: Likewise.

    @puroandson: Nope, I got it yesterday. The Oz election isn’t going too well either it seems.

    I reckon there is a chance they will bring someone else in (or do what Have I Got News For You did when they dumped Angus Deayton – move to a rotation of  hosts). Pretty well everyone one else did fine (and I actually think Evans was OK on air, but he is not used to not being top dog on a show and, I gather, that showed behind the scenes).

  • @Mersey

    And, according to The Twitter, Evans is stepping down.

  • @Mersey

    It the back end of the 80s/ early 90s, Evans did the GLR (now Radio London) Saturday morning show, which was followed by Danny Baker doing the lunchtime slot. It was, quite simply, the best 4 hours a week of radio I have ever heard. No formula, a lot of ad libbing and quite a bit of boundary pushing. Two broadcasters who understood…[Read more]

  • @Mersey

    Yeah – Evans is one of the best radio people around (although too shouty for breakfast radio for me), but he has never quite made the full transition to TV.

    But, to be clear, he is a true petrolhead.

    Have you seen Episodes? That might give you a different take on LeBlanc (who has been a bit of a revelation on Top Gear)

    Well, given that one of them is Germany they clearly aren’t (for every Germany there is a France). And anybody who does not realise that Germany is very keen to grab its share of London’s capital markets and all of our insurance trade (ie Lloyd’s of London) is tragically ill-informed. Or, as is the case with Murdoch-owned Dow…[Read more]

    Pretty much. The real reason for the global mass migration is that wealth is almost entirely dependent on where you were born. Move countries, and your children are very likely to be much better off than you were.

    The long term solution is a less unequal world.

    I respect your opinions and you make good points .  I’m just saying you shouldn’t let the EU

    try to make an example of you. Look what they have done to Greece.  Also,the EU has/is syphoning

    @Mersey — @XA24 is based in the UK and so is very much directly involved/affected by the omnishambles that is Brexit. And no, @lisa, I don’t remotely think that the EU will be inclined to offer England a deal. The prevailing attitude seems to be ‘go and go now’. Its my understanding that part of the reason that Turkey isn’t yet part of the EU is in regards

    to its Army’s  accountability and their resistance to EU reforms.   Didn’t  Merkel say that about
