I started watching Dr. Who on PBS in the 80s. That was my reward if I got good grades and did my chores: Dr. Who for dinner. It was unlike any other program on TV at the time and I fell in love with it. I mean, I was never a tough guy. All that was on TV at the time were these macho guys solving things with two fists. But when I saw Tom Baker’s Doctor tell hyper-violent chair-weilding Duggan to “put that down! It’s a Louis Cannes!” in City of Death I both knew I’d found my show and that I had to find out who Louis Cannes was. That was also a bit of a revelation.
It took me quite a while to even pronounce “Louis Seize” correctly.
Then I found out about Pertwee, and Troughton and Hartnel and I started buying the Novelizations and it just became my favorite show of all time.
It’s been a tumultuous long-distance affair of unrequited passion, but it’s been rewarding. There have been times when I stopped watching the show for years at a time, only to be drawn back in. There have been personal lows (Adric, Peri, kissing Grace, Amy’s Cop Outfit, Runaway Bride, whatever the heck happened with River Song, The [Shudder] Timeless Children), there have been dizzying highs (Turlough, The Rani and The Valeyard ( Trial of a Time Lord), Paul McGann in general, Rory & Clara, The rest of Donna Noble starting with Partners in Crime, Silence in the Library and Husbands of River Song, Fugitive of the Judoon and Haunting of Vila Diodati and, of course, both Rose and Rosa) and I still have  some completely unreasonable expectations (The Regeneration of Susan Foreman, A Universe with Other Timelords, The Return of Romana, Seeing more of Captain Jack than a Cameo, More menace from those blue people who put teeth on their face, another brilliant Dalek episode like Resolution) and things to look forward to (more astounding Team Chibnal Historicals, finding out why The Doctor’s in Prison or whatever, absolutely stellar performances from Jodi Whittaker and the cast, a little more Graham and Ryan,  Yaz, and probably some cocoa when it’s safe to produce episodes again!)

All in all, I remain smitten.

To my mind, this was the singularly most solid epsiode of Whittaker’s seasons.
I don’t see it leaving my Top 10 Episodes list any time soon!
It was a sensitive subject, handled well.
The plot was a keenly-written build up of suspense where you were generally invested in the stakes at the end.
The villain was top notch: incapable of direct physical harm but full of oh-so-much subtler menace.
The one-liners were top notch. The acting was brilliant. The RE-acting even better!
The US accents were on the mark.
Whittaker was The Doctor through and through, firmly settled into the role with her own flourishes.
Really, this was absolutely sterling Dr. Who: funny, poignant, thrilling and eccentric all rolled into one!
The Chibnall team is truly the best at Historicals.

I know it’s an old thread, but I need to say: another wonderful historical from the Chibnall team.
These have been the strongest, most wonderful episodes by far!

I normally like a few modern and futuristic-space episodes, but there is no question the Historicals for the last two seasons have captured my heart! Well done!

This was a wonderful season starter and introduction to the new Doctor.
I could not have asked for better!
And I love the new “fam.”

Howdy, all the threads on here are old and I just found the site, I don’t normally look for forums, so I’m just going around commenting on the episodes of the new series I liked for the last few seasons.
This was certainly one of them. I saw stellar performances from the entire cast, a menacing villainous take on the Daleks and some great one-liners. Great shooting and set design and the joke about the Brexity end of UNIT was fantastic. More of that please (I doubt anyone’s listening, but it must be said.)

Also, I always hoped the woman in white beside Rassilon was Susan’s mother, too, but the one thing Doctor Who never seems to want to touch is The Doctor’s family on Gallifrey. I don’t mind it being left vague, but I do get cranky about convoluted time nonsense being shoved into the only really relatable thing about the character: the Doctor had a family once. The generally do-gooding is fun, of course, but any old superhero does that. (I kind don’t like the superhero aspects of the Doctor, I do like the goofy meddler aspects though.)

And this episode was ALL goofy meddler. Even when she tried to invoke the “Oncoming Storm” rep, it was still charming. That’s the Doctor I love to watch!

Holy Rhino, I LOVE LOVE LOVED this episode!
I loved Ruth’s outfit, I loved the Judoon stuff and I loved the Cameo.
There was a lot to unpack.
I didn’t really care about the inserting Ruth into the past thing so much then (but it sure came back to bite me later, yeesh!)  But this was a BRILLIANT episode. I loved Yaz cop-talking with the Judoon. I liked the petty creep with the cake. I liked… I mean, I could just gush for hours.
Anymore, I find a callback or two to earlier shows makes for a delightful episode. The Ice Warrior in Cold War, for instance, or the Macra in Gridlock.
It’s a shame all the Time Lords got killed. Again. Because this episode promised us so much more.
(I have to admit, I’ve always secretly wanted to see The Rani pop up again in an updated guise and I really, really, really want to see Susan Foreman regenerate… but that’ll probably never happen onscreen.)

I have to say, I love Chibnall’s historical episodes.
And I’m a big fan of Goran Visjic, so this was a delight to watch.
If I had a criticism, it’s that I wasn’t fond of the space wasp queen. I don’t like that style of make up, it reminds me of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers baddies.
Still, the writing was solid, all the regulars had clear motives, it was a fun romp.
And I’m from the US but I like history, so I 100% agree with the portrayal of Edison as a bit of a louse.

I quite liked the episode. I did NOT like the finale it lead to, but I thought the episode itself was one of the better ones in the current season.
I loved the crazy cyberman and meeting the Gothic writers and the bizarre puzzle.
All the regulars seemed to have something to do. It was a fun and scary with some wild moments from The Doctor, just the right balance, for me.
