All this talk of “nesting” – I see what you are doing. Your trying to make me explode into one of my rants aren’t you? I saw the Chris Elliot article you mentioned when it was launched but thought – “what the hell is the point”, and managed to ignore it.
Complaints about nesting seem to have reduced since the absolutely abysmal implementation of the new profile pages though. You can’t find anything.
I noticed Dan has a new episode blog up on Dalek Invasion of Earth . I quite like Dan’s style so may make a comment later to give him moral support. I think comments from @scaryb and @blenkinsopthebrave, who remember it the first time would provide a valuable counterbalance to some he’ll get. After all, we would not want to leave him just with asgill to play with would we?

I’m intrigued when you say custom figure. Do you base them on the 5” models they release?

I’m looking forward to his actual episode blog opening again as well. I’m sure I’ll start over there after each episode airs and then end up here in our lovely chill-out space for late night cheese and port!
I remember reading the Dalek Invasion of Earth Target novel (being too “young” to have seen the original on TV), and the Robomen were enormously chilling, far scarier than the Daleks In Manhattan human-dalek hybrids – a dark commentary on control and forced labour.
Bring on the Easter avatar celebrations @bluesqueakpip @janetteb and @whisht (is that Mary cuddling a cyberman?). @chickenelly we will have to see if any of the Doctor’s outfits warrant a revamp of the pigeon!
As for me I am going to smugly await all further iterations of the “two-doctors” theory and hop between blue-fish and red-fish personalities to match…

@juniperfish and @phaseshift … it is indeed Metal Mickey — although I’ve always harboured suspicions that MM was in fact an early Cyberman design that was thankfully rejected — somewhere between the Tenth Planet and the Moonbase designs maybe?

Many years ago, in a galaxy far far away…. I was an illustrator (editorial stuff mainly in magazines) and this was a xmas card that was something to make me laugh! There were a couple of variants but nothing doctorish I’m afraid!

I don’t know – It appears I’m surrounded by creative types. Writers, artists, modellers. If you all decide to get together to create something, about the only thing I could volunteer to do is to manufacture some great explosive squibs to destroy it all. :-))

I posted a link to the announcement of a convention over the 50th weekend on the news thread, and said:
I’m torn on this. On the one hand I think it would be great to go to a communal event like this, with dressing up and everything. On the other, I think I’d want to absorb the special in a more intimate soiree in the comfort of my own dungeon wherein I can smoke my pipe, drink outrageous amounts of wine and generally be my disgusting self. Hmmmm. Be interesting to hear what other people think.
So any thoughts?
I’m trying to compile a Who based party soundtrack for if I go the dungeon party route. If anyone comes across tunes on t’internet I’d be grateful for recommendations. Stuff like this from “Chameleon Circuit”.

I spotted him on the link @chickenelly gave yesterday to the preview of the new series. Excactly the same playbook as dear Xander (last comment 10 Dec 2012), but now called TruculentSheep (started to comment 11 Dec 2012).
On the plus side – having his “C” (whatever it stood for) removed seems to have lost him the ability to have generally well thought out responses to him deleted. Which is nice.

A difference of opinion is fine and good and actually to be welcomed. But it is possible to keep it civil (as the likes of ASGill and HTPBDET back on the Grauniad managed to do) but old Truculent Sheep, as I suppose we must call him now, always seemed to turn it personal pretty quickly and just start lobbing the insults around…
I wonder how long until he makes it over here…

He described TS as “a twelve year old delinquent.” It is really rather sad to see the thread being hijacked by such a mindless, spiteful individual. His behaviour is pathetic. He doesn’t argue at all or debate a difference of opinion, he’s just nasty. I hope that if he does venture this way the mods will “have a few words”. That is one Dr Who fan (if indeed he is) that we can do without.

On the one hand I’m thinking ‘drat the man’, on the other I’m thinking ‘I hope he’s okay’. Because @janetteb‘s point is right; he’s coming across as nasty, spiteful and mindless. Which wasn’t quite Alexander; you could sometimes have a pretty good discussion with him. His inability to accept that he could ever be wrong (to the extent that I well remember a conversation where I proved him wrong, and he still wouldn’t accept it) seems to have degenerated into abusing anyone who even suggests that he’s wrong.

I used to love those threads, but looking at it – I couldn’t summon the energy to post something enthusiastic on it. That nesting format really places emphasis on the idiots.
I don’t think ol’ Xander will trouble us. He craves attention, and I don’t think we’d fall for it on here.
Oh – @janetteb (and our other Wizards of Oz), I understand ABC are showing the new ep a couple of hours (relative time) to us in the UK. Is that how you watch it?

I think I’m in the same position as Jim in that I’ll dip into the blogs, but this feels a bit more homely.
The Christmas threads always have less commentators and there were a few people who do tend to hang about to chat and theorise who didn’t appear, or left early (I owe an apology to Branfish – completely missed his festive greeting to us because his comment was oscillating between pages).I’m don’t think there will be a massive influx, but I think the end of the series may see a few more people drift over.
And the site looks really attractive if you compare it to others (Praise be to Craig). And lots of content (Praise be to everyone).

I just checked the ABC programs and Dr Who is screening on the Sunday night so we won’t be seeing it before those of you in the U.K. Saturday programming in Oz is usually dedicated to sport and repeats. The important programs are shown on Sunday nights. When I was a kid Dr Who was shown on week nights.

Had couple of trips to the Grauniad site recently but the massive trolling is just depressing <shudders> Truculant Sheep/Alexander even seems to have lost his Freud-mania and any pretence at discussing a point. And nesting’s impossible to follow.

Is it just me or has this been an incredibly looong week? Thank god Saturday is nearly here. I’ve deliberately not looked at any of the clips aside from the prequel as I prefer to watch an ep in its entirety. I don’t really see the point of drip-feeding little clips online.

I’ve also made the cardinal error of engaging with Truculent Sheep but I’m hoping it won’t come to anything…
Have also seen the Jane Goldman thing elsewhere. I think she could do a great Who episode — although I can’t say I loved Kick-Ass quite as much as everyone else seems to — although I did very much like X-Men First Class.
Personally, I’d really like to see AL Kennedy write a Who episode. I realise that she’s not to everyone’s taste but she’s one of my favourite writers and is a big Who fan, I believe.
29 March 2013 at 14:56 #3647I didn’t realise ALK was a Who fan, and she’s not as weird as some of the names mentioned in the article as she’s written plays for audio. The article just seemed to mention prose authors a lot, ignoring the fact that it’s a different medium and a lot of prose writers stick to prose.
I thought Jane Goldman because I loved her screenplay for Stardust. I thought she really bought out the magic of the story, and would fit well into this current vision of the show I think.
While I don’t know if they have any interest in Who at all, a couple of other names that occured were Sarah Phelps and Sarah Dollard. Both had Being Human episodes, Phelps has lead scripwriter duties on the last adaption of Great Expectations (with a suitable ethereal look) and Dollard was Script editor on the final (rather good I think) series of Primeval.

ALK also wrote the screenplay for Stella Does Tricks quite a few years back. Decidedly un-Who-like subject matter but proves she’s got the scriptwriting chops…

On the suggestions blog a while back we talked about generating some additional content on the site, and @craig mentioned the blog function. I’ve posted a thread about another TV show which may be of tangential interest to the Who brigade more to see what it looks like and play about with formats.
It looks really bland at the moment and my limitations as a writer are all too apparent! Hopefully I may get the IMG function to work with some direction from @craig, but if you have any thoughts on the format or show in particular it’s here:
