Hope Capaldi keeps the sunnies for the episode! Looking forward to the ‘Robin Hood’ theme, not sure about the orange dress though…
19 April 2014 at 02:13 #26957Yes the dress does have that cheap Costume hire look. Still this story does look as though it will be a lot of fun. I wonder how they will deal with the fact that Robin Hood is not a real historical figure.

19 April 2014 at 11:25 #26960Excellent point. Of course, if Sherwood forest only looks like it is on earth but is actually a construct brought to life from the pages of a children’s book, perhaps?
19 April 2014 at 11:45 #26961Maybe the show somehow makes him a real character, but then makes everyone forget him except for Howard Pyle, the first writer to mention him, or maybe the author is just an alias, to make the world think he’s fictional. Or something like that.
That being said – there are actually speculations that he was a real person, since so many different authors wrote of him, so they could just be spinning that rumour into a Dr. Who story. The legend of Robin Hood originated through songs etc. from medieval times, which is probably where Pyle picked it up and spinned it into a more extensive story. So it is possible that the stories about him is in its core based on a real person, although the made-up stories in the books and films about him are products of the imagination of the authors.
On a different note – with the dress Clara is wearing, it looks as though they have made her Maiden Marion for the episode… Which is interesting. I am curious about this story.
19 April 2014 at 16:19 #2696819 April 2014 at 19:20 #26992@whogirl – Given the reaction of my sixteen-year-old nephew to Jenna’s Maid Marian look (I believe it’s written as “PHWOAR!!!”) I’d say part of the audience is going to be very happy with that dress…
Capaldi carries the shades off very well, but I’d much rather they didn’t feature in the episode. If he’s going to glare at the Sherriff of Nottingham they would kind of dilute the effect 🙂
@janetteb – Everyone seems to be saying “Tom Riley’s playing Robin Hood!” but I wonder if that’s strictly accurate? Splitting hairs maybe (I’m like that!) but what if he’s playing the leader of a band of fugitives/outlaws – depending on which side of the law you’re on – who happens to be called Robin? Every legend has to have a starting point somewhere, so maybe Gatiss is going to have the Doctor and Clara giving it a kick-start!
I can just imagine Clara saying something like “So that’s Robin Hood, yeah?” and the Doctor coming back with “Well, not yet. Give it a couple of hundred years and he will be.”
@wolfweed – Oh, that clip gives me hope! It certainly implies the Twelfth Doctor isn’t going to sugar the pill when giving bad news to his companion, and there’s neither apologies or kid-gloves involved. Just what I was wanting.
Looks like it’s going to be a riot of an episode all round!

Confirmed: New Doctor Who Star Peter Capaldi Not In Musketeers Series 2
http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/new-writer-for-series-8-62007.htmEvidence is mounting that Peter Harness – writer of Wallander, Case Histories and the upcoming BBC adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell – is working on a script for the show.
24 April 2014 at 15:00 #27152Not relevant at all to Dr Who but I simply couldn’t pass by the mention of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell!!! I have been intending to post the news of that adaptation on the books thread but like so many other things I intend to do… Needless to say I am excited about it and a little fairy tradition wouldn’t go astray in a Dr Who story either so I would be rather more excited by the news if it was Susanna Clarke rather than the script writer penning a Who story.
Cheers

25 April 2014 at 12:15 #2715926 April 2014 at 14:20 #27198I dunno, I kinda like the idea of a Robin Hood themed Doctor Who episode. But what I really want is a 17th century themed episode!

Frank said “I’ve to dress as a cheetah and there’s some horse-riding,” whilst adding it was a “humanoid cheetah.”
18 May 2014 at 18:20 #27611Ah… a return to the planet of the Cheetah people… lol!
18 May 2014 at 19:53 #27619So, a cheetah on horseback. Riiight 🙂
Still, anything’s possible I suppose. Just hoping that volcanic location doesn’t mean we’re going to get a long, complicated and (to my mind) totally unnecessary explanation of why Twelve looks vaguely like a Pompeian marble merchant!
18 May 2014 at 19:59 #27621@confusedpolarity – I’m pretty sure he was just joking about the cheetah, and at the same time referencing Survival. Unless they really are going to return to the Planet of the Cheetah People… now that would be random. I kinda doubt it however… even though it was the last serial of the Classic Series… and actually quite a good serial… some folks tend to find the Cheetah People a bit silly sometimes. Nice he referenced it though.
21 May 2014 at 22:00 #2765527 May 2014 at 19:29 #27836Someone claims to have photographed the first two pages of the S8E1 script. Does anyone think they’re real? http://imgur.com/gallery/lBIou
I personally believe this has to be genuine. I’ve no reason to think otherwise, so far…

I dont know if this has been mentioned yet on this forum, but there has been a lot of talk about the master coming back, now I dont know if this has been confirmed by BBC but there are a lot of theories about who will be the master. There is a theory where Danny Pink is the master, one where Rory is the master, and even one that suggests that Peter Capaldi is the master. While I hope no one we come to like as a companion, or just as a character becomes the master, I do hope he comes back.

4 June 2014 at 22:16 #279965 June 2014 at 22:50 #28032@tbird7702: I really can’t take all those Master rumors seriously. It seems far from legit. Just a bunch of fans hoping the Master will return.
I do also hope he comes back though.

People in a wall?
I don’t think this is anything except the breaking down of the set.
Missing, missing, missing… this could be another ‘Blink’.
So whatever our monster is can hold entire PLACES in a wall? Maybe.
Looks like a disaster. Maybe whatever it is, is trying to ‘save’ people. Or maybe not.Hmm, looks like HTML for captions isn’t working so correctly? Well, they can still be read so I’ll just leave it like it is.

@stickfiddler – I’ve fixed the formatting for you.
Interesting theory about people/locations being saved in walls. My first thought was that maybe the little girl from ‘Fear Her’ has grown up and is now graffiti-ing instead of drawing 😉 (I really hope not!)
The creepy-looking subway tunnel appears to be the same one that The Doctor, Martha and Jack were seen emerging from in ‘The Sound of Drums’. Just to quell any thoughts that it may hint at the return of The Master, that subway was also where Jackie confronted Elton in ‘Love & Monsters’.
I too hope that The Master returns but, preferably, in Series 9. Let the new Doctor find his feet first.

I hope they’re right about the Master… because that would be so cool.
16 June 2014 at 17:10 #28319@wolfweed If that was being used in production, I would think that the Doctor dressed up in a tux just to take River to a small secluded diner to say goodbye. I think that I would prefer that to an actual tower. Much more unexpected this way. By the By, does anyone else think that Moffat is going to have a field day making puns with the word mummy, in “Mummys On The Orient Express”?
Clara: “Doctor, there’s a mummy on the train!”
Doctor: “Of course there are, Clara! There are lots of mummies on this train.”Clara: “Look!”
Doctor: “Great Scott! Where did that come from? (Glares at it) You’re not my mummy.”
Clara: “Well aren’t you going to sonic it?”
Doctor: “Oh no, I have a better idea (unwraps mummy)”
They are both suprised by what’s underneath
Clara: “Doctor, I know that this is a silly question by now , but how is that possible?”

The more of these shots that I see of Capaldi’s sheer physicality, the more I’m convinced he’s going to be a great Doctor….
