Absolutely agree with you there – both about the sonic screwdriver, which was getting very silly, and the new Doctor’s possible personality.   Machiavellian indeed!     And a bit less of the agonising would be good, too…

Yes, David Tennant would have been much better – sorry, EVEN better – with the Scottish accent!   Too much for the Americans, maybe.

Love the new outfit, no more bowtie, thank heavens!    Trousers may be a leetle tight for running in, so perhaps he won’t be doing so much of that.

Agreed!   More ordinary people and less heartbreak, please.    That was one reason I liked Donna so much (though I hadn’t expected to) because she and the Doctor were just mates, and she wasn’t anything weird and wonderful – well, until her last episode, which actually WAS heartbreaking!    But she just went back to being an ordinary person.

I can remember the very first episode, and was hooked instantly – and highly annoyed when it was repeated the following week!

Patrick Troughton was my favourite, mainly because he had a sense of humour which was notably lacking in Hartnell.   After Tom Baker it went downhill rather;   I liked Paul McGann, too (sexiest Doctor.)

Of the new ones, I have to say that I like Matt Smith the least;  brilliant actor, but too much clowning and running about and generally being Very Silly.   I am very glad to see the last of the bow tie.

The companions have improved immeasurably, no longer being just young girls who wander off at the wrong moment, but I HATED Rose – I think because she was what my mother would have called “common.”   (Sorry – I was brought up to be a terrible snob, and have been fighting it ever since!)      That said, she was great as the conscience of the ultimate weapon with John Hurt’s Doctor.      (Sorry, can never remember episode titles!)

River Song I absolutely adore, having been a fan of Alex Kingston for many years.   Captain Jack was fun, and I loved Donna although I was not expecting to.   Her farewell episode was absolutely heartbreaking.    And please, can they NOT all fall in love with the Doctor….

I have high hopes of Peter Capaldi, an older Doctor at last.    Long time to wait – sigh…

Scrambled brain after reading ALL the posts about the Christmas special!

For me, I am getting rather fed up with all the Christmas specials having to be Christmassy.   (does this make me Scrooge?  Probably.)  And also with the new craze for bringing in a whole load of monsters just for the sake of it, so we have the Weeping Angels and the Daleks and the Sontarans and the Silence, etc.    Too much!    And not ANOTHER eccentric family, please.

And one more moan – I don’t like the emotional farewells before regeneration.   David Tennant’s was the worst, which seemed to go on forever.    The Doctor just used to get regenerated and that was that!

Still, at least we have hopefully seen the last of that wretched bow tie.
