That was … amazing.  I echo the sentiments above – such brave, exciting television.  Truly horrifying.  I had the realisation that he was in/creating his confession dial on the 3rd confession – and then realised the ‘I’m in 12’ meant his own skull.

I suspect there is a wider bootstrap loop in operation, or the order-of-episodes theory is co…[Read more]

As a LH person I have to learn guitar which means getting the strings swapped around I think? I don’t know really.

Possibly, but there are cases of RH people who play LH (if I played guitar I would have to play LH, but am mainly RH – however, I hold a pen like a LH and, apparently open jars like a left hander). Some pretty famous g…[Read more]

@sirclockface @blenkinsopthebrave I just rewatched the start to Familiar and I think I might have something. Yes it’s a different teleport bracelet, and yes CapDoc does not keep his when he leaves the trap street. However, he also uses the Sonic. And there is that pod that looks decidedly like it should be on the Enterprise.
My theory is that we…[Read more]

Very nice observation !   Might fit nicely too

    @bendubz11, @sirclockface

The teleport bracelet worn by the Doctor in Missy’s story in The Witch’s Familiar is totally different from the one he is trapped by in Face the Raven. And while he teleports in Face the Raven, the portable transporter is left behind.

Sorry to put the kibosh on a bonkers theory…

  • bendubz11 replied to the topic Face The Raven

@sirclockface I hope you’re correct, it would definitely make sense to me if Heaven is the story Missy is on about to Clara in Familiar, but I thought that the teleport bracelet was left behind. I think this calls for a rewatch!

    That’s technically (BBC Approved) spoiler.

In the beginning of S9E2 Missy tells Clara about the time when the doctor was alone with a teleport bracelet in a castle-type and in the snippet he was wearing a white shirt with a red velvet long coat. At the end of ‘Face the Raven’ the doctor was teleported to a castle-type place with only a teleport bracelet and was wearing a whi…

Oh, the scene was a blinder, but from the sniffiness in some quarters (esp the Guardian thread) you would think he’d come on naked.

Also, I think you may have exaggerated *just* a tad.

It would not especially surprise me (if filming schedules can be sorted) to see Ashildr along for a longer ride, desperate to do penance.

I hope not. I am not overly keen on the character or the actress. 🙁

River Song, perhaps? It would be interesting to see the dynamic of CapDoc travelling for an extended period with an…[Read more]

@sirclockface @blenkinsopthebrave  I too have felt the order of the episodes maybe off, not backwards, but rather out of sync.  One of the main reason’s I think is the doctors clothes.  The whole season he has worn variations of t-shirts and the hoodie, now in the episode where Clara dies he changes into the crushed red velvet coat and his hair sh…[Read more]

@sirclockface Thanks for these video links! I confess that I worry we are looking toward a time when the Doctor travels without a companion. I have no idea if that’s the case, but if it is, then those tend to be my lest-favorite episodes. I enjoy it when the Doctor’s personality bounces off that of his human companions. We’ll just have to wait and…[Read more]

at the risk of pointing out the obvious, the change of clothes is probably just because they had nearly been eaten. the tattered and battered outfits from the last adventure simply wouldn’t do for the upcoming adventure…

in other words, when you’re travelling in a time machine, there’s always time to look your best!

Also when the raven entered Clara’s body, there was an intense light. There was no such light when the street person died.

Thanks to your pointing this out, I made a point of looking for this on tonight’s rewatch and saw it, as well. I’m hoping it’s significant … much like the blue light was significant before Missy was s…[Read more]

I don’t normally come on to this thread, but I think this warrants an exception. Like @sirclockface, I’ve only been here since the start of this series. Yes, I’d forgotten about Clara’s association with roses in the first series in which she appeared. I think that motif was definitely designed to spark speculation about her potential connection to Rose, now that Moff and co realise that what fuels engagement (for many) is spec. It paid off in that the Moment (in the form of Rose as Bad…[Read more]

@sirclockface Good to know you liked this episode, and also surprised you didn’t like ‘Robots of Sherwood’.   Goes to show that Doctor Who has something for everyone. 🙂   One of the great things about Doctor Who is that it is so diverse that it appeals to so many.    I loved ‘Robots of Sherwood’, and ‘Sleep no More’ I found boring.  That’s good…[Read more]

I think Robots of Sherwood is a much misunderstood ep (admittedly not helped the That Edit), and like Sleep No More ably illustrates the strengths and weaknesses of Gatiss. A very strong and distinctive flavour, delivering a nice sense of distorted point-of-view, but in the end the last morsels sometimes just don’t quite satisfy.…[Read more]
