Further details on the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection DVD and Blu-ray have been revealed. The limited edition box set is out early September.

Doctor Who’s first director, Waris Hussein, unveiled a blue plaque dedicated to Verity Lambert earlier this evening.

I spoke to the President of the local fan club last night and he has not heard anything about a film screening of the first episode so it clearly isn’t going to be on here. The sofa, fish fingers and custard it is then. 🙂

Further to @wolfweed‘s #29257, the BBC Shop has sent me an email to say that the Limited Edition of the 50th Anniversary Collection is selling like Tunnock’s Tea Cakes just after the Glasgow Opening Ceremony. 😉

As far as I’m aware, it’s only on sale through the BBC Shop – and if they are selling that fast, it may not make it through to other suppliers. They might keep it exclusive.

@bluesqueakpip  I may be in heartbroken denial, but I don’t see why River and Twelve can’t meet up.

I’d love to see Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi acting together for one – fun and fur flying. Plus, the vagaries of time travel certainly allow for it, should the Moff so wish it.

So yes, not so sure Capaldi will be entirely disinterested in flirting altogether just because it won’t be with Clara (a relief frankly).

This one-off event will feature a ‘never seen before’ 5 minute video from an upcoming Doctor Who DVD release and a special 10 minute behind-the-scenes of episode 1 feature (also available on BBC red button and BBC iPlayer) followed by a Q&A with the guest stars that will be streamed LIVE into participating Cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

@wolfweed – hmm. So they’ve gone for ‘value added’ for the cinemagoers. See it in the cinema and you get a Q & A which the audience at home won’t get.

Leicester Square is sufficiently easy to get to for me that I’ll probably try and buy a ticket. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a box office meltdown. 🙂

Today I published  an interview with artist, sculptor and coin designer, Matt Bonaccorsi, who designed the Doctor Who souvenir medals for the Royal Mint. He also designed Lord of the Ring collector coins for New Zealand. However, he has another connection with Doctor Who that I didn’t know about.

thanks for that link @craig – nice article and interesting “immersive storytelling” interface as @danmartinuk says.

Seems to be similar in terms of approach to what the BBC are doing with their K&L pieces – here’s one for Tolkien and WW1.
But the BBC approach (at least for that article) is less rich in terms of photography and no transparent backgrounds. Not sure if this is just because they didn’t want to go that way, didn’t have the photography or whether there were Accessibility concerns (sometimes hard to read text when there’s a patterned background behind it).

But always good to see different ways people trying to make reading/experiencing stuff more engaging and navigable.

@whisht Yes, I liked the Tolkein and WW1 one. I agree that there are indeed Accessibility concerns when you have either lots and lots of bright white, or are trying to read text on top of a photo.

[I recently got asked to give feedback on the Graun’s beta site. I said its acres of bright white made it bloody awful to read, that I invariably found myself using the old site where possible, and had they bothered to ask anyone about Accessibility?]

But @danmartinuk‘s excellent article had the main text nicely presented on grey backgrounds. It was a very ‘easy’ read as well as being a very interesting one. 😀

Good news. @danmartinuk says, in his latest post for The Guardian (don’t read if you don’t like anything remotely spoilerish), that :

after the controversial axing of behind-the-scenes show Doctor Who Confidential two years ago, the show is back, sort of. Coming to iPlayer and the red button is Doctor Who Extra, which promises to be “much more than a ‘making of’ show, as we follow Peter Capaldi every step of the way throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor”.

If you can get hold of a copy of the Radio Times, that is: there is no firmer evidence of Who’s now-mainstream status than the ‘Peter Capaldi cover’ RT being nearly sold out by Wednesday. 😀

I have just read Dan’s article. I think it is one of the best of the deluge in the past week or so. Though I am no spoiler phobe there far too many spoilers in many of them even for me.

Dr Who extra sounds promising. Confidental was ok, sometimes I enjoyed it, sometimes I turned it off. Even though I am interested in the behind the scenes aspects of productions sometimes seeing the mechanics of the show did diminish the illusion.
