@dentarthurdent @whohar @janetteb
The Star (UK) has been trashing credulity whilst exhibiting female anatomy since 1978.
Paul McGann had a go at Tennant as well recently.
I suppose we need the War Between Land And Sea before we can really judge what’s happening. Is there a delay there… any news?

Yes I did wonder about the Daily Star. Would it be unkind to compare it to those well-known organs the Weekly World News and the Onion?
I did wonder a bit about performing a ‘radio play’ on stage, maybe it was some sort of misquote and the play is about three actors voicing a radio play? And I also wondered…[Read more]

This is the problem when there is no real news from the BBC, or anyone y’know actually connected to the show, something always steps in to fill the void.
NatureJournalism abhors a vacuum.“Peter is teaming up with fellow Doctor Who legends Colin Baker and Tom Baker for his next project. The trio are st…

I think we’re in agreement! But this WAS in The Radio Times… which may be nominally independent of The BBC but I haven’t really absorbed that erm fact (ie I don’t believe it).
The Daily Star is an actual… comic! Um… Red Top. I thought of looking up ridiculous headlines created by them (celebrities e…[Read more]

@janetteb @whohar @ps1l0v3y0u Just what is the relevance of Peter Purves? (Aside from being a ‘Doctor Who legend’ according to the article). The world is full of guys who worked on [something] x decades ago, who would love to cash in on their past association. Here’s the link Radio Times gave, by the way:

On the face of it, it’s SO ridiculous, you might think it’s noise or a wind up.
Then you remember: Greenland, ‘Dictator’ Zelensky, Gaza Vegas On Med… Piers Morgan on BBC Breakfast explaining why everyone who disagrees with him is s fascist. Cheers Piers, the scales have well and truly fallen from my eyes.

@whohar that seems quite likely. I would say that the BBC feel that RTD has not delivered the series saving coup that they were hoping for and they are fumbling in the dark right now for any way to keep their cash cow afloat. I don’t have much faith in whatever decision they make right now but will keep fingers crossed because I am a stubborn…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Yes it does seem like clickbait rather than news. I suspect it is just that, something to fill a page, get Who fans to read in the hope they notice the adds on the side.
cheers

Is someone seeding the narrative?
It certainly is odd timing to have two similar-toned stories so close together.
I notice from the link you sent that Purvis had said something similar in an RT article a few months ago but it wasn’t reported with the same slant. Headline writers (normally sub-editors) produce a headline that doesn’t…[Read more]

So now Peter Purves is at it!

Is this the narrative? Is someone seeding the narrative? First a guy who wrote one (rather good) canon story and moonlighted on some other bits and pieces, now a companion from the distant past who ‘no longer watches t…[Read more]

The holy grail of lost shows must be Fury from the Deep or Evil of The Daleks. Fingers crossed.
Either would be great. Anything that either completes, or is a complete Troughton story would be welcome. But…if I have to pick a single episode, then I’d go for part 4 of The Tenth Planet.

Would like to know how Star Beast was chosen as an intro to the Mouse era… but, we’ll probably never know. It entertained enormously, almost effortlessly, in a manner Chib could only ever dream. What I shall do is watch the transition from Chib back to Russ together I think…
1. there must have been some Russ input into Chib’s…[Read more]

Oh well, here I am, back again in the age of RTD2.
And here we go, retconning Donna. I guess if we can retcon Rose, we can retcon Donna. Way back when I watched ‘Xena’, it was a standing joke that nobody ever stayed dead in that series. I guess modern Who is pretty much the same. I don’t mind.
I guess Donna was never actually dead, just lost her…[Read more]

continuity… may well alienate more new fans than it attracts. But it is a 60+ year show; 50 years active. It’s more of a question of what you do with it: Cartmel wanted it to be less ‘roll out a classic monster’ and more about The Doctor himself: man of mystery revealed, not mad man in a box, that phrase itself being Moff’s deflection…[Read more]

And some potentially positive news about one (some) missing episodes, in this podcast:

Light on details but seems to suggest there is at least one Classic Who ep out there, ready for restoration.

That’s an interesting link and it echoes some of one of my earlier posts on this subject.
It looks like Sherman is saying that there can be no new media with Piper as the Doc because we don’t know for sure that is what she is. And, in that respect, the broader narrative around the Doctor has come to the “full stop” because there is…[Read more]

Yes, Inferno, Caves of Androzani, Fires of Pompei… magma has Who-form.Perhaps it’s doctor evil/panicked hero hyperbole. You only need a certain amount of flooding/volcanic activity to wipe us out, but never knowingly undersell it.

Looking at the next ep – Power of the Doctor – the Daleks were going to flood the Earth with lava, and even more improbable scenario. They had a big drill in a volcano and were going to let the lava out 🙂 Of course, if they *had* managed to cause a few massive volcanic eruptions, it’s possible the dust clouds in the atmosphere might h…[Read more]

@whohar World Enough and Time was a genius move from Moff as far as Cybermen went. As far as I was concerned , the earliest Cybermen (way back in old Who) were the lamest most unconvincing monsters ever – all too painfully obviously just extras in suits. It took Moff’s genius to turn that liability into a horrific ‘reality’ – that the earl…[Read more]
