    @craig thanks for the link.

Why isn’t it on here?  *shakes fist at BBC*

Ahem *shuffles feet guiltily*, still not had time to listen to the episodes.  To be fair my laptop died on me and wiped out my recordings.  I managed to salvage 7 of them but I’ve spent my time backing everything up just in case.

I’ll try and give them a go at the weekend…

Aaa, a lovely warm sofa.  It’s freezing down in London too.  Monday was absolutely miserable, wind and sleet whistling around my ears as I trudged in my lunch hour to an art supplies shop, only for to find it was closed on Mondays *shakes fist at part-time shopkeeepers*.

Still not caught up with the audio adventures yet.  I’m recording them to store up for later when I have the time to settle down and give them a proper listen.  The weather is looking a bit nippy at the weekend so it might be a good time to listen to a little batch of them.

I’ve mentioned it before but the monsters which disturbed me the most as a child were the robots in ‘Android Invasion’ (I think).  The bit where *spoilers* Sarah Jane android’s face fell off and all you saw was two eyeballs in a circuit gave me the heebeejeebees for years.

I saw that scene for the first time since then a few years back and laughed out loud at it.

     Blake’s 7. Servelan…perhaps the all-time great TV villain.

    @Blenkinsop

When I was a nipper, my dentist wasn’t a normal dentist rather it was the Dental Hospital in Dundee.  What I didn’t know at the time was that it was just a bunch of students practising on me (I shudder to think about it now).  The worst part was when the lecturer came about and would tut tut about how the student was being too delicate and would attack me with a drill (all with no anaesthetic I may add).  She was the spitting image of Servelan….

It might explain why Blake’s Seven was cancelled, she had a sideline.

I’m in remedial class already!  I’ve not had time to listen to the last two audio adventures, but I’ve recorded them and will listen to them at the weekend, honest….

Thanks @craig!  Of course I’ve got nothing to post there now but I’m sure it will come in handy in the future.

Hmmm there seems to be quite a few johnnycomelatelys about.  Young @whohar is probably gadding about in his country pile as we speak.

    Logging in at work *shhhh*

I’m wondering if there should be a news page or something like it.   I don’t mean that we write our own articles or cut and paste them from other sites, but rather provide links to them.  For instance the new short story series which the Guardian had an article on the other day would be a contender (I posted it in the 50th Anniversary forum I think).  A lot of us seem to be finding interesting stuff out there and it could solve the problem of where to post ‘spoiler’ type things – as long as the intro was suitably cryptic but with a warning to those of a sensitive nature .

    Where is @whohar and @Baldynapper?

This is a bit like doing homework, with all the Dr Who stuff coming thick and fast… Lucky we have a lovely site like this to keep up with it all.

Anyway just finished listening to ‘Death in Blackpool’ and have to agree with @phaseshift, an odd one to start the series with.  I think you’re right that it was the end of the last series, especially as it references the Zygon episode (as well as ‘Horror of Glam Rock’ from the previous series).

It did take a while for me to understand what was going on, all the regional accents floating about I couldn’t remember who was who for a while.  I’ll need to give it another listen, but I enjoyed it all the same.

@craig, the reference to his dress sense is covered in the first series with Sheridan Smith.  Comments about his floppy hair and flouncy dress were running jokes as McGann really didn’t like the wig he had to wear for the film.  Additionally, just as Nine hanging around with Rose meant that Ten’s accent was a London one, so Sheridan Smith’s Northern vowels were supposed to have influenced Nine’s accent (well that was my understanding of it).

The last three series of the 8th incarnation are indeed more like Nu Who, but I really liked the audio version of ‘Shada’ which they did a few years back.

Here’s a link to the Guardian article on the new Who short story series: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013/jan/07/doctor-who-ebooks-eoin-colfer

    Here’s an extract: http://www.guardian.co.uk/childrens-books-site/interactive/2013/jan/07/doctor-who-a-big-hand-eoin-colfer-extract

The former has a comments section, but does not alas have many posters.  The Guardian might be wondering where everyone is, a Who comments section is usually like catnip.

We could do a ‘book club’ on the above…

This was one of my least favourite episodes of the series, but I gave the second half another go you know to show a bit of willing (plus there is bugger all on telly).

It was nice seeing Rory and Amy again, even though they’ve technically only been out of Who for one episode.  My initial reaction, however, was ‘Oooh doesn’t Matt look young’.

The stand out bit of the episode is the rather poignant/creepy Amy sans Rory waving scene.

To continue on from @phaseshift‘s observations about how Rory as a character develops, he says something along the lines of ‘I’d trust the Doctor with my life’ in this episode.  Yet after quite a few scrapes (usually involving his own death) plus living longer than the Doctor when he was a plastic Centurion, he’s rather more cynical in series 6.

Thanks for doing all that work to make our new home so nice.  I’ve just uploaded an enhanced avatar to show my pigeon in all his glory.

I’m all for doing a book club type thing for the classic series.  However not having seen it since it was first shown, you’ll need to give me time to *ahem* acquire said episodes in some way…

There are other repetitions, which might or might not be deliberate. For example, (for a really bonkers one) Clara says ‘eyes front soldier’ as a reason why the Doctor should climb the ladder first- though given the length of her skirts, not really an issue. The other person in Who to say ‘eyes front soldier’ is Amy… Older Amy to be specific. The other Who character to be really good at hacking into networks. Oswin’s abilities honestly did remind me of Older Amy in AOTD, which is probably why the repeated phrase here struck me so.

    Hmmm *puffs on pipe*

@miapatrick‘s posting puts me in mind of the ice governess mimicking what she sees.  Could Clara’s mirroring of Amy and River be the same?  ie does this indicate that Clara is a similar type of being?  This time absorbing more sophisticated information such as how to hack into Dalek technology, etc.

@wolfweed (I can’t get used to these new avatars!)

So Clara is the forerunner to the Spectrum?
Does she have 1 kb of memory and a touch-sensitive membrane?

We’ll see if she mentions Daley Thomson’s Decathlon….

Re: flickering.  Hmmm I forgot to look out for the faulty/broken lightbulb in this episode.  The Christmas and Eggs spots presumably related to when the series was back on again (I think) but the flickering lights are still a puzzle.

Does anyone else find the lines: ‘the pond is yours. What is growing inside it, when it is ready, is ours’ incredibly creepy when you think back to demons run etc? And then shortly after, Madame Vastra commenting about the snow that remembers ‘I hope it’s listening to the right people. it could be a terrible weapon in the wrong hands’. I think it’s probably just an echo of the past- or maybe a deliberate reminder of River? Though I’m afraid i think if she does come into it again, it will be because she’s died/been saved (uploaded)/the doctor has given her the sonic screwdriver.

    (@miapatrick)

Ahem *relights pipe which had fizzled out with apathy for her Clara is a later incarnation of River theory*.

    (@phaseshift)

    10 RUN “You Clever boy”20 AND “Rememer”30 GOTO 10

The above (from what my granny tells me) is reminiscent of the coding for ZX81, probably resulting in a little blip which bobs about the screen for a second.

Glad to see the new blog up and running…

I’ve just been watching the episode again in a traditional hunt for clues and noticed a couple of points:

    1) Mirrors – the Doctor looks into them at least twice, then mentions the ice governess is ‘mirroring’ what she sees.

    2) When Clara’s bustle gets stuck in the window when she and the Doctor are trying to escape, she falls on top of him which mirrors River Song’s entrance into the Tardis in Time of Angels.

I’m wondering if #2 means that she could indeed be an incarnation of River….*lights first pipe of the new blog*

Aaa, my first post in our new home.  Hopefully it will work….

Re: Clara being related to the Doctor either through Jenny or River.

I think Clara kissing the Doctor puts the kibosh on that one, how could you explain it to the kiddiwinks?  Some kind of universal consciousness I can go along with however especially after @bluesqueakpip‘s spot about Claranet (I knew the name Clara sounded a bit familiar in that respect).

On a slightly separate note, I was looking up 1866 to see if there was anything of significance happening (sans Dr Who) and the best I could come up with was that H G Wells was born that year. *clutches at straws*
