Also too much YouTube for me; it burns through my writing time so I really should stop…

Some interesting suggestions here. Big thumbs up for the 5th Element. I’ve watched it several times and always enjoy it. Incidentally there’s a Discworld book called The Fifth Elephant but that may be coincidence.

Moffat… you would think Clara the Dalek was such a rich scene that the whole two parter was written around it… and indeed Clara can only save herself (apparently) by invoking a word which a Dalek shouldn’t be able to express. And so resolves the story. And leave many unanswered questions.

Adams… I still invoke the locked filing…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent I am still working through my first read of Pratchett. I recently picked up more books so now have only three to go to complete the series. I am currently on Jingo. Pratchett has that english style of writing, a tradition that really seems unique to the U.K and certainly influences Dr Who, especially Moffat.

    Cheers

Doctor Who was created by the BBC in 1963. It soon became a success. However, not everyone at the BBC liked it. By the end of the Second Doctor’s era, there were a lot of Doctor Who haters at the BBC who were plotting to cancel it. Luckily, the Doctor Who lovers at the BBC managed to defeat them by creating a new format f…[Read more]

@winston and all Canadians, I most humbly apologise. The American movie.

@nerys and @dentarthurdent. Not all fans are talented but those that are usually have the feel for the show which non fans might miss. There are of course exceptions. One problem I think with recent Who is the developers were trying to be more “american” to compete with the…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent  Sorry, we are not prepared to lend out Mark Carney at this time, he is way too busy here or at least he better be. There’s a lot going on.

Peter Capaldi  would make a great Bond and he already has attack eyebrows.

@janetteb   The Who movie was an American production that was filmed in Canada so you can’t blame us, especially on…[Read more]

    You’ve twisted my words

I’ve just re-read my post and your earlier one and I don’t agree with this but no matter.

You obviously have strong views on the BBC and, again, I don’t agree. But, as Elwood P Dowd once stated:

Well, an element of conflict in any discussion’s a very good thing. It means everybody is taking part and n…

@dentarthurdent & @whohar I disliked the movie when I watched it back in the 90s but rewatching it, I found it even worse than expected. yes it was very 90s American TV but it wasn’t even good at being that. The script was woeful, the directing was woeful and the acting was woeful. McGann is a good actor, was a good actor then but that is not…[Read more]

Yes, he would have been a terrific on-screen Doc I think. His Big Finish audios are apparently very good (caveat – I’ve not listened to any) and give the 8th a new lease of life. Same with the 6th’s audio stories as I understand it.

With the upcoming, urm, hiatus, maybe BF stories are the salve for my DW itch.

the cbeebies thing is frankly an insult. Kid’s show

In understand the sentiment but I’m not so sure. I wonder if the BBC is playing a longer game here than we give it credit for. Consider:

They run a kid-friendly version of the show. This will accomplish three things.

    1. It gets ’em hooked on…[Read more]

I’ve said enough. I think we agree that something peculiar happened with the show at some point, and this was manifested by the mess of Chibnall’s tenure and the unsatisfactory elements of the latest RTD run. I don’t think the BBC are interested. And they now seem happy to blame showrunners. Michael Grade all over again…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent. Have not rewatched any of this series so commenting from memory but I recall this episode as being rather confused. I agree that the UNIT stories have not been great which is a shame as I liked Kate L-S and the early UNIt stories were very good. I think perhaps UNIT have got too big, too well funded and not so well written, rather…[Read more]

You did not include the food in your list of uncool things from the fifties, the boil it until it is reduced to mush cooking style. I grew up in the 60s but it was still the 50s culturally and so I fully concur. The 50s look cool now, to those who were not there.

Are you revisiting Robot Revolution too?

Lux was enjoyable but maybe slightly empty. Like a cartoon. Need to go back to it. Especially the fourth wall moment.

@dentarthurdent I think the less knowledge one has of being in ICU the better. Another ‘patient’ is apparently saying ‘Kill Me’. He’s lurching up behind Bill when Razor brains him.
