@HTPBDET @Shazzbot @Bluesqueakpip @TardisBlue
Further to the conversation (which I’ve just caught up with!) on the film thread re the casting for Into the Woods (Depp’ll act great and by the time they’ve finished autotuning and audio tweaking he and Corden’ll sound great too!) this came into my head – my only excuse is it’s very late and the last…[Read more]

@craig, (Emperor) @PhaseShift, @JimtheFish, @shazzbot, (Time Lords) @ et al,
Do polls inevitably lead to trolls? Perhaps not. But…
There has been some discussion on this thread about the future direction of the website, whether to run polls, whether to keep the site for “core members”, whether to change the site so as to provide more input fr…[Read more]

No conclusions, just some thoughts.
If the Hurt Doctor is indeed the Last and Zeroth; the Last Doctor who also causes the whole line of Doctors, then the Smith Doctor might refer to the events as being in the past even though they’re also in the future. Personally, however, I’d say that the Smith Doctor’s use of the past tense (He’s the one who br…[Read more]

I agree with @Timeloop I think R.S. is certainly dead. The entire character arc is working back from her death so if she wasn’t it would not make as much sense or be nearly so poignant. However as we found out in TNoTD being dead won’t necessarily slow her down. I expect we will see more of R.S. though in incorporeal form. (um deja vu or have I…[Read more]

Wow! You’re good! (Just after the crack in time (in the clouds!)). I’m very wary of interpreting things as faces (as we humans do that incredibly well (remember the “face on Mars” from the 70s that disappeared once they had higher res kit?) but this thing’s just so jam packed with carefully placed goodies it wouldn’t surprise me.…[Read more]

@ScaryB – yes, I think Gallifrey. Like most planets in the Whoniverse, Gallifrey is very big on rocks. 🙂
The sky is orange, as well.
It could well be an in-joke; they want to have every Doctor in there, so they sneak in John Hurt’s face on the policeman and Peter Capaldi in the exploding star-scene at the end (about 0:55-57, left side from the…[Read more]

@HTPBDET – and mini-HTPBDETs – good to see you!
all incarnations, the Doctor has consistently not wanted to be thought of as any kind of policeman
Yes. Good point. He’s happy to impersonate a policeman; does it during both the Tennant and the Smith eras. But he doesn’t want to be thought of as a policeman. Indeed, there’s no finer way to insist…[Read more]

Having re-watched the trailer, (several times) and the beginning of An Unearthly Child I think the opening scene of the policeman guarding the entrance to Totter’s Lane is endeavouring to suggest no more than the beginning of the T.V. series as a reference to the beginning of the Doctor’s journey, so I don’t think that the policeman at the start…[Read more]

If he is a future Doctor, why does Matt refer to him in the past tense? (“He’s the one who broke the promise”)
Also “Count the regenerations…” If there is a Doctor Zero before Hartnell then Hartnell becomes the first regeneration rather than the first Doctor, so everything moves on 1 from what we thought ie 11 becomes 12. It works…[Read more]

EVERYONE looks slightly waxy/unreal in the trailer. As if they are museum pieces (and remember the trailer for NotD which had Matt and Clara going through what looked like an old attic/museum with lots of Doctor artefacts). That has to be a deliberate choice (and not just about conversion of 3D/2D images, although it…[Read more]

@HTPBDET (mini)
No no no! I don’t think the policeman’s Hartnell (although it’s a thought) – I was suggesting the CGI process used to upgrade Hartnell’s image was the same as that used on the policeman. BUT – sorry, changed my mind – I don’t think it’s the original policeman – at least not from the original footage – the ’63 one wears his chin…[Read more]

“He is wondering if Hurt (whether Dr Zero or Dr 13 or whoever he is) seals the Time War one way and and because Dr 11 has gone to Trenzalore, the one place he should not, he has a chance to undo what Hurt has done and seal it a different way.”
I think your uncle might well be right there. It is possible that the difference…[Read more]

@HTPBDET (and mini-HTPBDET(s) 🙂 )
Re the policeman – I reckon (after far too much starting and stopping of youtube clips!) it’s the original policeman from An Unearthly Child – but the CGI process has given him the slightly unreal look of Hartnell. Have a look at the first few seconds of this – not just for the policeman but to see how c…[Read more]

Hi mini-HTPBDET. I certainly thought it might have been John Hurt at first glance, although studying the screen cap that @Shazzbot referred to, I’m less convinced. I’ve searched for Reg Cranfield on Google and I agree with your uncle that the new picture doesn’t seem to be him. I thought it might in fact be an image from Mark Gatiss’…[Read more]

Hi mini @HTPBDET s Please pass on our regards to your uncle. I thought it was Hurt at the end but not at the beginning however I did wonder why the policeman was there. He as the only element in the trailer that didn’t quite belong. I have to rewatch the original episode now as I don’t recall a policeman in it though I assumed that opening…[Read more]

@ScaryB and @CraigNixon The spidery thing could be a dual reference to the racnoss as per the tagged images, and also the spiders in the Pertwee story, Plant of the Spiders, which was what first came to my mind. Likewise the soldier, which I took to be a U.N.I.T reference but is identified as something else, (temporary break in transmission) could…[Read more]

Update on the 11 lives in a day theory –
Or it’s the last 3 regenerations in a day, with HurtDr (as either aged 8 or between 8 and 9) doing the thing that now needs resolved. Which keeps it all AG, doesn’t tamper with the earlier history. Unless HurtDr is, as @HTPBDET suggested, Doctor Zero – above still applies but in timey wimey very wibbly…[Read more]

And he locked Gallifrey up in a time lock just to avoid returning and facing up to whatever it is he is running from.. Maybe even started the time war as a diversion or an excuse… Now that does border on evil.
😀
Or at least till he could find a way of dealing with/sorting it. Maybe he’s trying to avoid his Timelord final exams…[Read more]
