Personally, I view the Zygon two-parter as at least a bit allegorical. For one thing, the process was simplified as each side was represented by the will of a single individual. So the Doctor’s speech could move Kate to lay aside her weapon. In reality, reaching agreement is much more complex because multiple…[Read more]

I don’t think the whole episode is shallow, naive or silly. I’m fully aware that it brings up a very serious and urgent problem and I partly agree with its message. I still find the Doctor’s speech very moving and for me it sounded as he was not speaking about the Time War but the Second World War. That people from…[Read more]

I liked seeing those political undertones. So maybe this is a opportunity to  reinforce that lesson.

    @lisa

Personally I’m not sure about these political undertones. After “the Paris tantrum” the conclusion of the Zygon Inversion looks to me shallow, naive and silly.

Sorry if bits of  this is preaching in large parts to the choir ande been aired on this sites lots of times before, but anyway….It seems to me that in BG Who, there was a strong emphasis on tight stories. In AG Who, there is far less concern for tight stories and much more emphasis on the dramatic flourish or the `thing’ (I wish I’d come…[Read more]

Also, maybe she [Ashildr] was the woman holding her head in her hands to Rassilon’s side in the “End of Time”

Rassilon’s wife maybe? Given his age, that would mean her DNA could be in basically the entire TL population, and they’re all “hybrids”. Would help explain why the first Doctor went to Earth upon leaving Gallifrey, if he knew that.

  • ichabod replied to the topic Heaven Sent

@lisa  I can imagine we are the future Galifreyans too

LOL!  I think we’re them *now* — our leadership is, anyway: buried in technology, trying to control everything, and acting like total dicks half the time (more than half, in fact).

@lisa Thanks for that!  I love Peter Jackson just sitting around the house polishing his Oscars.

@lisa that did give me a chuckle! also reminded me of how large my list of shows I need to catch up on is: Classic Who, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, Supernatural, I could go on for ages but I think I’ll stop there.

    Favourite bit –

you want to film it in New Zealand for six months and he wants you to film it in twelve days in Cardiff.

    😉

@Lisa Fixed that for you. I really enjoyed it today.

Regarding watching Heaven Sent/Hell Bent – I’m going to have to ask your forgiveness on that one, I’m afraid. Currently Monday, and not only is the episode unwatched, I still don’t want to watch it. 😀

Not in a grumpy, miserable, I-don’t-want-to-watch this sort of way, I hasten to add. I’m sure Heaven Sent is magnificent,…[Read more]

@lisa: Fantastic insight about the new twist on “run you clever boy and remember me.”  Thanks!

And while Clara is dead, the story of Clara is kept alive in the Doctor’s heart and memories.  And we have been hearing from the Doctor for a while that what makes the being is the story.

I’m sure they are! For me it was something like the clock from the Hunger games arena with each wedge holding a different threat.

@lisa   I did like how he fell back into his comfort zone which was having Clara and the Tardis aka his mind when he needed his ‘deliberations’ . That’s how he managed his sanity.

Yes — that gave him someone to talk to besides the Veil.  About his sanity, I dunno . . . he could yet do something terrible, and need to restore himself from that.
