@lisa @PhaseShift @ichabod @purofilion Clearly Fenric in The Curse of Fenric derived from Fenrir, the monster wolf chained up by the gods, though Tyr lost his right hand in the process. The thought popped […]

@lisa @purofilion Yes, you’re right, Capaldi must have just not thought it through before speaking. Even the initial statement, “The Doctor knows everything” isn’t right — the Doctor *thinks* he knows […]

@purofilion @lisa Yeah, :26 seconds is what I think might be Odin — except it’s not a leather eye patch, it’s a metal visor, I think, plus what sure looks like a middle-aged male type nose. I miss-saw an eye […]

@lisa. Ace–that is a really interesting idea! Yes, it could be her! It would make a lot of sense.
And…assuming Maisie Williams is contracted to GoT and cannot come to Who all that often, it opens up the […]

I think the ‘took your time, old man’ thing is a massive Moffat-ey misdirect. It’s the sort of line that comes right at the end of an episode as a little sting after […]

@Lisa @JimTheFish There is, surprisingly, a hell of a lot of BBC approved info in this article as well.

@bluesqueakpip Yes, there was not a new haircut or a new suit, he was wearing a tux.

@lisa, @purofilion, @bluesqueakpip et al–
The press releases suggested that in order to preserve continuity the Doc and River as the Doc is going to be essentially kept in ignorance of River’s identity, so they may not even have that many scenes together, depending on how they do it. But however they do, it’s clear the dynamic between McGann and…[Read more]

@purofilion and @lisa
There is indeed a minisode (First Night, Last Night), and it’s certainly when the Smith Doctor thinks it’s the last night ever.
However, he doesn’t have the ‘new haircut’. Possibly they couldn’t manage a wig on the minimal budget for a minisode. Or possibly Moffat did it on purpose – to give himself leeway in case he wants…[Read more]

@lisa I have a feeling that the wording of my last post may have misled you. It is only the first, 1953 Quatermass serial for which episodes are missing. Quatermass II and Q and the Pit survive in their entirety and are available in digitally remastered form. The visual quality of QII is not all that great, and I suspect that it is mainly of…[Read more]

@lisa I was referring to the original BBC television dramas – The Quatermass Experiment (1953), Quatermass II (1955) and Quatermass and the Pit, starring Andre Morell as Quatermass (1958/1959), each broadcast weekly in 6 half hour episodes – rather than the films which followed them (and which I have never seen). Quatermass and the Pit was ‘mus…[Read more]

@Bluesqueakpip Re Rock Follies, seconded! I remember watching Widows and enjoying it, but it is Rock Follies which resonates in my memory, no doubt in part because of the innovative format, but also because of Julie Covington’s performance.
@lisa Verity Lambert was involved in the last Quatermass serial in 1979 but, for me, that did not have…[Read more]

Ha! Many thanks for the kind words on the Gallifrey theory. I’m guessing this is an undercurrent of SMs arc about where Gallifrey is, and I do like the thought.
@nick – especially glad to see you about. Hope you have resolved the medical issues.

Crikey, everybody, I feel as if I’m watching Advanced Acrobatics (any contortion sufficiently advanced — ) at a Cirque du Soleil performance! Love it. And now I want that snow globe, please. @lisa Thanks for the link, above; I looked a bit deeper, and found that this man did in fact go and study Buddhism in situ pretty extensively, so I wouldn’t lump him in with the California-style New Age dabblers and cherry-pickers who emerged from the hippie movement in the US to become “spiritual leaders” by peddling pared down and cobbled up v…[Read more]

Nice tracks from everyone. @lisa, I have to agree with @Whisht that the Dave Thomas piece is amazing. I have tried the accordion and simply can’t do it (too opposing actions at once, just couldn’t coordinate it), so the notion of playing accordion and something else simultaneously is mind blowing.

I guess “invasive species” would be a more correct term. It does die back in the winter even when it doesn’t freeze, but it comes back and spreads massively in both wet and dry weather. And the one that has taken over where I live (in Vancouver, Canada) is a white flowered one that isn’t especially pretty, and if you dare g…[Read more]
