I disagree about gardening and the Game of Thrones. So many people I know have watched it saying how brutal and bloody it is, not to mention sex scenes. Not my cup of tea either.
However, each to their own I say. *big grin*Ttfn

@lisa keep up the good work. Looks like I will be on the phone to the local MP on Monday to offer my help and to report some election material that went up a day early. So the election was only called today but the “playing dirty” has already begun. (Our local Federal MP distinguished himself during the Abbott tenure by being repeatedly ordered…[Read more]

@puroandson What is it about creating large flames that is so satisfying? Now that we are into bbq season here, I love marinating things in olive oil and then dumping them in the grill basket. Every time I give them a stir, the resulting flame up just warms my heart (not to mention giving everything a pleasantly charred flavour). A fiv…[Read more]

@lisa I agree with you about gardening! There can never be too much.
@puroandson Yes I love my greenhouse because it does have shelves to save my back a bit.Mind you they do go in the ground and there is the bending that hurts my back. My hubby has been turning my beds into raised boxes so I can sit and weed but there are still regular bed…[Read more]

Me too. Sleep no more was the least enjoyable.
Everything in which Missy has appeared have been winners in my eyes.
Cancelling the whole thing would make me very sad indeed!
I meant to say. Don’t you love the recurring words: “Are you my mummy?” and my favourite: “Yes, we know who you are!”
All I wish is that the media would get…[Read more]

My limit with Comcast Blast service is pretty high. But I’m an old guy so I may not be using as it as fast as a younger person might…[Read more]

I had to smile. The thought of ‘crusty sleep’ from your eyes growing into monsters, doesn’t exactly make me feel good. *grins*
Rather scary methinks?
As for children finding it hard to grasp, you could be right, some of the episodes are a little complex.
Cheers,

@lisa Well, you never know, do you? My recollections of the first series included a dislike of several episodes. I have had a poor view of Aliens in London (except for Penelope Wilton), but on rewatch I realized that it was really only the giggling and farting that I didn’t like. Much of it was very good and there was a lot of menace. It st…[Read more]

@puroandson Son of Puro Please tell your mum that the hospital was only brought up at all because I asked, in response to an earlier post of yours. Do pass any blame along to me; and nobody here, I’m sure, thought there was any attention-bidding going on (other members have posted personal bits here from time to time *ahem* without no such re…[Read more]

@Puroandson I am afraid I can’t help but hope you enjoy the film.
@lisa by “Classic” do you mean the 2010-2012 series starring Stephen Mangan? We really enjoyed it but then have not read the books, yet.
Cheers

@lisa River seemed more authentic (?) somehow compared to Clara for me. Its like some folks are on a quest
for wonderfulness (Clara) and others are born with that (River). I think- maybe?Yes, maybe; though there’s also the age difference. Clara is very young when we first meet her, still looking for further boundaries of herself. Having foun…[Read more]

@lisa I saw and loved the snowy opening credits. I also hope for more Doctor and River adventures as these two are great together. This reminded me of the old 40’s movie comedies like the Thin Man with all that flirty banter and witty wisecracks. More please Mr. Moffat.

@lisa Fabulous! I haven’t heard anything of Brian Setzer in a long time, that’s a great video.
@puroandson My new favourite Christmas song! 🙂 (Brought to my attention via the Twitter account of the massively gifted and really lovely pianist Marc-André Hamelin.)

@lisa – I love that idea that Clara (finally) goes back to Gallifrey to give ‘her’ Tardis to the Doctor, running away with the President’s daughter (Susan) to save her from [insert fate-worse-than-death, like marriage to a Sontaran in a peace deal; sitting pointless exam; going to the Ambassador’s Ball in terrible dress etc etc).
“Hey – take…

The problem with post-Modernism (and its Cleetus-The-Slack-Jawed-Yokel-like cousin, deconstructionism) is that it takes a perfectly sensible critique of structuralism (especially its obsession with the dual) and degrades it into a sub-6th-form (or to use the more useful American style, sub-Sophomore)…[Read more]

I can’t equate that with a lack of empathy. Seems to me he has buckets of empathy. It drives his choices but its not always critical to success. He’s still the alpha leader. He still manipulates the action and he’s positively confident and clever. Yes, he’s definitely agitated because Clara isn’t getting a pulse and Clara had in a prev…

So, to pin its “ultimate” truths onto Malory’s personal life or authorial intent (both common forms of humanist literary criticism) would be patently reductionist.
I cheerfully admit that I’ve never read Barthes. But either you’ve condensed his argument over-much, or possibly I’m confusing the religious studies term ‘redu…[Read more]

Interesting. I didn’t see the dalek, cyberman or weeping angels as being in the Matrix but rather like external memory.
Probably correct- they don’t seem to be integrated like the TLs in the matrix, or arguably the sliders. Perhaps the cloisters rather than the Matrix proper would qualify as the hybrid. I was thinking that the exp…[Read more]
