Don’t delete your account because I debated with you! For me, arguing politely is fun; if it’s not that for you, of course I’ll stop.
I do love a good discussion and people on here will confirm that […]

Just dropped in from an extended absence, having recently moved to the West Coast of Canada (one of the islands). Most of the stuff is still in boxes, but the Doctor Who collection has been retrieved!
Reading posts in a sporadic way, I came across the request from @mersey for audio tape suggestions. A personal favourite are the full-cast BBC…[Read more]

This is for @mersey
Its basically a way of saying that I truly hope you don’t think you’ve been picked on or battered.
I think this site goes in for theories (hopefully bonkers), debates (sometimes serious), fun, the unexpected and….music.
But hopefully always with respect. and I know you truly are liked here.
I hope I’ve chosen the right…[Read more]

Please, discuss away. I’m not trying to beat you up with a big hammer for saying what you really think – I’m just saying what I think, as well.
So these science fiction elements which I mentioned […]

As I said, there’s a massive discussion on this aspect of Kill The Moon on its own thread but just to add to @bluesqueakpip‘s excellent summation — yes, there is jump from straight SF to fantasy […]

Kill the Moon is a science fiction episode with people who travelled to the Moon in a space shuttle and not using a broom or a magic carpet or a dragon, who were using spacesuits and not the Bubble-Head […]

How unusual. It looks very complicated.
There is a good story about Walsingham, Elizabeth 1st’s Spy Master, on BBC four Extra.

This is an interesting discussion so I thought I’d weigh in. I should point out that like (I think) @mersey, I’ve only read a synopsis of the plot. I’m not heavily invested in the Harry Potter stories, so I hadn’t […]

@mersey You can believe that in Doctor Who Universe the Moon is an egg but that’s not science fiction that’s rubbish.
Actually Kill The Moon was a fun riff of the first Silurian story from BG Who, which used […]

I’m sorry if you feel you were being made a punching bag; especially if I made you feel that way. If you notice, while I may be disagreeing with you about whether the events in Cursed Child are […]

@mersey — please don’t feel like you’re being made a ‘punching bag’. I may not agree with your comments but I for one definitely do value them. Your ideas are always thoughtful and interesting ones. And the whole […]

So is YouTube @mersey
On there you can have everything. Plays, stories, and classical music.
we listened to Bach’s Tocatta and Fugue in D minor the other week, superb.
I’m a regular listener. Also, have you tried requesting books from your library? Audio books I mean.
The lists seem to be infinite.
Btw, what is a gobelin?

Well, I won’t dwell on the Kill the Moon too much. Partially because it turned into such a colossal bunfight last time and the discussion of that episode is still there for all to see. Suffice to say […]

As far as I know in this party of the Universe you need at least 3 things to produce life: water, carbon and DNA.
Definitely not the case in the universe of Doctor Who: silicon based life forms crop […]

Okay, let’s take this from the top:
Every change of a rule is a failure.
No, it isn’t. You have to distinguish between a change of rule, a further development of science (or in the case of Harry […]

Bluesqueakpip commented on the post, What is canon? Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (SPOILERS!)
Starting off the discussion: there is an argument that the play isn’t ‘canon’ because it’s in a different genre. However, that gets very wobbly indeed when the author has as much input as JK Rowling was […]

janetteB replied to the topic Companions past and present
@Mersey that is an interesting observation. Perhaps companions, like children in literature, need to be sans parents, or at least one parent. Parents and family in general anchor us to the here and now. AG Who has played with the issue of parents, rarely considered in BG Who. RTD really brought something new to the story when he introduced Jackie…[Read more]

What I’ve done – because it’s very difficult to discuss this without spoilers – is set up a blog. Rather than make it specifically about HP, I’ve widened it up to a more general blog on the nature of canon, using Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as an example.
So I will reply to you there. All are welcome (if you’re okay about Harry…[Read more]
