@janetteb @ps1l0v3y0u @whohar @janetteb Like Janetteb, I found Chibs’s rewriting of the whole Who timeline too much to take. ‘Future’ events (by which I mean ones the Doctor’s timeline hasn’t reached yet) can do what they like, but ‘past’ events had better fit into the sequence or they just confuse and annoy me. Which am I supposed t…[Read more]

Moff’s legacy:
Timelords rehabilitated
The Doctor gets a new regeneration cycle
1 is 1, he turns the cylindrical uncamouflaged Tardis into a police box.
All three are trashed in TTC. Not just (sarcastic) ‘cheers Chris.’ More… ‘Oh that’s a bit vindictive really… was that REALLY your idea?’

This is why I am surprised Chibnall gets such a free pass from the previous showrunners. He must have known what t…[Read more]

@nerys (I’m just coming up to a re-watch of this – after I do The Church on Ruby Road).
The Babies reminded me quite strongly of the goblins in Labyrinth, except not so well done and they didn’t have David Bowie to give it some class. Or maybe evil Muppets.
Oh, hang on, is this the right episode I’m thinking of? (Quick frantic google for T…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u The Toymaker’s pseudo-German was really annoying at first. I think he dropped it later in the episode (thankfully). What made the Toymaker so hard to combat, I think, was that he didn’t have plans for world domination or any particular motive, he was just having malicious fun.
Mitchell & Webb had some classics, my favouri…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Did you get to re-watch this as you threatened? 🙂
I just managed it. Not a lot of comments. The Toymaker is so annoying I want to slap him.
The Vlinx is absurd, a Disney creature? Never satisfactorily explained.
The Toymaker talked of doubling the Doctor again and again. Reminds me of a Farscape ep where the villain-of-…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u That Winter Palace / 1916 scenario could have been developed into quite a good episode all on its own. They certainly spent enough on the impressive and elegant set ( /CGI?) But as it turned out, it was just a convenient location for the Doctor’s involvement to happen. None of the (historical) events of 1916 even got a mentio…[Read more]

I expect there will be big announcements next year, new partnership, new show-runner new Doctor.
I hope so. My guess is that the 2026 Christmas Special is a kind of placeholder while the BBC / Bad Wolf figure out the next move. If we don’t start to hear something by say Easter next year, then I’d be expecting a delay until the new season…[Read more]

Who out there could really shake it up? Don’t have to be a fan
I think not being a fan should be in the job description for the next showrunner or, at least, someone who’s not been involved in the show before. Someone who is sympathetic but not overly in thrall of continuity. I don…[Read more]

‘Going nowhere’ – what a curiously ambiguous turn of phrase
Yes agreed. I think a previous post actually said “Rest assured, the TARDIS is going nowhere” which is even better / worse.

@ps1l0v3y0u I know Chris Boucher mainly from Blakes 7. I remember that series mainly for quarries, sets that were reasonably convincing, weapons that weren’t, and some delightful dialogue, often featuring Avon. But the line I best remember is down to Servalan: “And, I want a gun.” Avon: “We only have one gun.” Servalan (patiently…[Read more]

At last some real news! And it’s about as positive as it’s going to get right now.
I see also that TWBtLatS will be shown later this year; looking like Disney want out quickly. But hopefully this will be shown around Christmas this year.
Still, lots of unresolved questions:
So RTD2 is going to write the…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Still a bizarre selection of venues. Shrewsbury, Dorking, Crawley and Winchester. (I had to look up where Crawley was, I had an idea it was somewhere near Woking 🙂 Maybe it’s where theatres can be hired at a reasonable price.

Yes I did wonder about the Daily Star. Would it be unkind to compare it to those well-known organs the Weekly World News and the Onion?
I did wonder a bit about performing a ‘radio play’ on stage, maybe it was some sort of misquote and the play is about three actors voicing a radio play? And I also wondered…[Read more]

This is the problem when there is no real news from the BBC, or anyone y’know actually connected to the show, something always steps in to fill the void.

@janetteb @whohar @ps1l0v3y0u Just what is the relevance of Peter Purves? (Aside from being a ‘Doctor Who legend’ according to the article). The world is full of guys who worked on [something] x decades ago, who would love to cash in on their past association. Here’s the link Radio Times gave, by the way:

@ps1l0v3y0u Yes it does seem like clickbait rather than news. I suspect it is just that, something to fill a page, get Who fans to read in the hope they notice the adds on the side.
cheers

Is someone seeding the narrative?
It certainly is odd timing to have two similar-toned stories so close together.
I notice from the link you sent that Purvis had said something similar in an RT article a few months ago but it wasn’t reported with the same slant. Headline writers (normally sub-editors) produce a headline that doesn’t…[Read more]

The holy grail of lost shows must be Fury from the Deep or Evil of The Daleks. Fingers crossed.
Either would be great. Anything that either completes, or is a complete Troughton story would be welcome. But…if I have to pick a single episode, then I’d go for part 4 of The Tenth Planet.
