The more I think about it and read everybody else’s theories the more I’m convinced that Hurt has to be The Great Time War Doctor – how many references has there been to being a ‘soldier’ and being able to tell one in this series part 1 & 2?! Like in CW  ‘a soldier can smell another soldier’ etc etc

Hmm.. I’m really not sure what to make of this episode yet. The only thing I’m certain on is that I’m not huge on Moffat, and much prefer Gatiss. It was certainly all down to the utterly brilliant performances from all the actors for me (Matt & Jenna seriously gave their all on this one – Matt’s been upping the ante for ages now, and Jenna was up and down like a yo-yo, so I think it shows which episodes were shot first) because I wasn’t bowled over by the story until that punch in the face of – JOHN HURT, BITCHES! I really hope it’s not heading in a seriously convoluted direction though.

I agree with the others who are saying that Clara is an ordinary girl who does something extraordinary and there’s not much else to say about it. I’m not sure that this is our goodbye to River, and am thinking that Hurt is the Time War Dr between McGann and Eccleston. No other theories going on yet, I think this one will swim about in my head for awhile first..

@bobbingbird I don’t think it’s Clara under the Tardis as it’s mentioned by Tricky that someone’s UNDER there and we see a pair of boots sticking out from under the Tardis and a pile of thick wires. Tricky is then interrupted by the arrival of the Doctor, who keeps saying that Clara is INSIDE – and we know she’s inside the Tardis not under it.

@Shazzbot I hope I can do you proud, but there’s alot to live up to!

I originally came for a year to be with a Dane, then ended up staying and making him my husband. We’re in Copenhagen. I love this city even though I feel like it can be a bit too small for me sometimes – everyone seriously knows everyone, it’s crazy. And I don’t imagine you as wrinkly, I’m kinda picturing you as being furry and four-legged 😉

I haven’t rewatched the episode yet, and am heading into an exam period in a few weeks, so please excuse any brain farts!

I was thinking as I was reading this entire thread (we’ve certainly all got some cracking theories!) that the woman in the shop that gives Clara the number could well be the Time Lady that appears to Wilf? And then @fivefaces comes with it 🙂

River is a professor of archaeology, could she not have written the book? In the scene where Madame Kovarian kidnaps her to put her into the spacesuit in Lake Silencio, isn’t she madly researching The Doctor?

And who did the Tardis land on? That seems to me like it’s going to be something later on and we’re being led to disregard it now, so when we find out later on we think back to it and realise?! Tricky gets interrupted by the appearance of the Doctor.. and does anybody else recognise the shoes – leather boots with a strap around the ankle? I can’t put anything to them.

I’m going to rewatch and see if I can still stand behind my ramblings..
