@thekrynoidman — I’d say the three Forsyth films to watch are:

Gregory’s Girl. A brilliant, warm little film about adolescence, growing up and the essential absurdity of school. Very true and very funny.

Comfort & Joy. For me, Forsyth’s best film. Starring the mighty Bill Paterson as a radio DJ whose life and career goes on the slide at…[Read more]

@TheKrynoidMan I love that film from first frame to last and that final scene is groundbreaking, Morricone’s music lifting it, almost, to perfection. Leone builds on work he’d done in ‘For a Few Dollars More’ and takes the quick draw cliché out of the two-dimentional American western street, one man in front of the other, and puts it in the…[Read more]

@thekrynoidman Love The Good the Bad and the Ugly but do prefer Ecstacy of Gold

Is also, for some reason, one of Metallica’s favourites. They play it as their intro at every show now.

But this is my favourite version – Ennio Morricone live (saw him a few…[Read more]

    @Purofilion and @TheKrynoidMan

Pierce Brosnan has cheerfully admitted that he didn’t go beyond ‘it’s filming on a Greek Island and Meryl Streep’s in it’ when deciding to accept the role in Mama Mia.

Some things you just have to say ‘yes’ to, and damn the torpedoes. 😀

  • @thekrynoidman

Damn. I must be losing my touch 😉

  • Whisht replied to the topic The Christmas Invasion

@thekrynoidman pedant may be right, may be wrong but please don’t get annoyed or worse leave if what he said came across as a whole bunch of patronising twaddle.

Keep voicing opinions – it is after all what everyone else is doing.

On a separate but related note generally, it struck me that only the trolls that come here occasionally, ever use…[Read more]

I’m just not a fan of the way Joss Whedon always has his characters have something clever or witty to say

@TheKrynoidMan — I know it can sometimes seem like that but the humour is not the point, I think. It’s about injecting character into even the innocuous line. Otherwise what you get, especially in genre shows, is just flat exposition. Old W…[Read more]

That’s OK, as noted all are entitled to their view.

This is going to sound awfully patronising but I have been around the block too many times to really give that much of a toss.

You are in that age group when you Know Everything – not in any way a barb – it is an unavoidable part of growing up that between (roughly) 18 and…[Read more]

    Yeah, I’d go for that.

Although having looked an @TheKrynoidman‘s reference to Buffy, its snark does make it appear he is suffering a loss entirely of his own making (as @purofilion will attest). Youngsters, eh?

Now, let’s get back to pointing at the troll and laughing.

Or discussing Doctor Who, if you want to be blue boringer about it.

Cherish this moment, my young friend. Your casual (but honestly expressed) thoughts on this episode have enraged a passing verifiable idiot to the extent he just had to sign in to challenge you in the most inept way possible. I get three a month now, but it did take me a large amount of time to accrue the first.

    Consider his…[Read more]

Bad Arbutus! I have failed to keep up with things in this lovely little music lounge. I brought a glass in from the pub and spent some time this afternoon enjoying the offerings.

@TheKrynoidMan    I don’t know that I have ever posted “Waterloo Sunset”, but it is one of my favourites. Thanks! I never actually saw Phantom of the Paradise, but I ag…[Read more]

@TheKrynoidMan I think Lloyd Webber’s Pink Floyd is showing!

I’ve not seen any X-men movies since the second one – I was beginning to get serious superhero fatigue. I knew I was out of step with the trend when I found the first Raimi Spiderman movie to be a snorefest, and I haven’t bothered with the…[Read more]

My favorite track from Star Wars is the end credits music from Empire

@TheKrynoidMan   I was doing a lot of driving today and had the Kinks on in my car. I thought of you! And since I don’t think I’ve ever posted this, and since late autumn is in full swing here now, here is Autumn Almanac.

@Apopheniac    Well, it started somehow with this series and has been rather fun. But normally, people just come on and share. I have been introduced to some entirely fabulous music on this thread.  Like your excellent contribution, great track!

The Phantom Menace is a great film – I prefer it to Return of the Jedi. It certainly has its flaws, but it has a particular charm of its own.

My favourite part of the soundtrack comes at about 1:25 into this clip (the Droid Invasion):
