Yes – I think it it’s sad that the crew couldn’t possibly get away with something like that these days. I still think that Earthshock managed to deliver genuine “holy crap” moments for its time. I’m not so sure. The Doctor’s intervention was to prevent humanity using the defoliants that would have stripped the Earth of its magical tree protection.

Yes, it seems to be a bit of a ‘Marmite’ episode. I really enjoyed it myself; it fits nicely into the theme of our myths and fairytales being based on truths we prefer not to remember.

Or prefer not to believe, because we want to be hard headed and cynical and not to remember that the world is full of magic.
