• To add to @Arkleseizure “Land of Fiction” theory (which I particularly enjoy) and @Bluesqueakpip interesting comments on it, I suggest we recover Robin Hood’s words at the end of this season’s “Robot of […]

  • @Arkleseizure – it’s not a bad thought – though if the Doctor’s adventures have been taking place in the Land of Fiction, it has rather an air of ‘and then he woke up and it was all a dream’.

    However, if the […]

Yes – the good stuff in the eighties does tend to get ignored by journalists in favour of the bad. I can remember posting an excellent written interview with him on the Faces strand (which @whisht certainly enjoyed) where he starts off by asking the writer about an editorial in the Radio Times. It was when Matt Smith s…[Read more]

@FatManInABox – carelessness, I think. I’m sure the non-fan reporters have seen pictures of all the BG Doctors, but I bet they’d have to look them up to be able to name anybody but ‘William Hartnell’ and ‘Tom Baker’.

A thirty year old reporter would’ve been five when the BG series went off-air. At that age, if your Mum wants to watch Coronation…[Read more]

(Am I off topic here? Should I put this on a different forum?)

Anyway, I take your point @Arkleseizure I too have worried about the fact that the Cybermen leave an army on a ship that’s basically a flying missile. I suppose it comes down to how much plot holes matter, compared with other things that make you love a story. For example:

    The early…[Read more]

@Arkleseizure – you say you don’t do bonkers?????!!!!?

I had to look up the Cessair of Diplos and can only say that if I shaved with your razor I wouldn’t have any scalp left!!

    🙂

    Brilliant!

What I love is that there’s a really straight line I can’t see!!

  • FiveFaces replied to the topic Deep Breath

@Arkleseizure I think Cessair of Diplos sounds like a pretty damn good theory. Why? Er… not sure either. But I like it!

On the other hand, why do you say Earthshock gets worse on repeat viewings? It stands up for me. Who doesn’t like a well-prepared meal?

  • Bluesqueakpip replied to the topic Deep Breath

@Arkleseizure – yes, I’d agree that the episode does display Moffat’s ‘learn to use iPlayer!’ tendencies to the full. I enjoyed it in the cinema, but it really was so much better on the second viewing.

Oh, this is so much fun. I’m very fond of these country house stories. I seem to remember that this story isn’t rated all that highly, but I quite enjoy it. I love the music in the ball scene! And Tegan’s dress!! And the Doctor lost in a stone tunnel in his silk dressing gown!!!

While I agree that this lot of companions were on the whole not a…[Read more]

Yes – good point re the MC in Cabaret. Though the “I mean that most sincerely folks” was pure Monkhouse in full cheese mode. 🙂

As an ex-Goth I think I side with Ford on this one. Looks great stylistically, but trying to do anything in that ship with all the black would make your brain bleed (I think that’s why Zaphod is imper…[Read more]

  • I’m really enjoying watching these – especially now having the benefit of the instant pause button, to catch up on the bits in the guide which aren’t in the narration! (like the Human Gullibility factor of 9)

I quite like the guide flagging up that the Human race have a gullibility rating of 9 following this sudden and unexpected rescue from sudden death. Shortly followed by the waiter asking:

@blenkinsopthebrave: What with Ian’s name appearing on the Coal Hill sign and William Russell having a cameo in An Adventure In Space And Time I’ve almost talked myself around to a point where I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t pop up in Series 8!  I really shouldn’t do these things, but Moffat’s such a fan himself (as he proved with all those…[Read more]

re Rassilon – my fav theory is that could have been the “alternative plan” that the High Council were cooking up while the rest of Gallifrey was out fighting Daleks in the streets. Defrost the nearest, most powerful megalomaniac and set him to work. The MTL (and 1 other?) covered their…[Read more]
