@mersey So — “Loose clues drop shoes” and other war-time slogans . . . Yes, I’m on Eco’s side but Barthes is no dope, and writers of both inclinations have lots of fans who love their work. I will miss Moffat — more, or less, depending on what Chibnall does in his turn. I hope he delivers more of what you’re looking for.
@missy What if you…[Read more]

I think that may be my favourite bit of bonkerising ever. I kinda want you to be right.
Which bit of the BBC are you referring to? Just the drama? Or the full service news operation? Or some of the best factual programming in the World? Or the two children’s channels? Or the Welsh and Scottish channels? Some of the most t…[Read more]

I wouldn’t overstate the strong position of the Beeb. It’s been on the ropes politically for a decade now and if the next general election goes the way it’s looking it’s going to get worse. But Who is one of its strongest properties, that’s for sure. I think it will definitely become a streaming property at some point — it’s…[Read more]

@brewski (and long time no see)
Great bonkers theory! And like all bonkers theories, it doesn’t have to be true to be great. It made me think about what’s in the vault, and the oath/promise. When you see the photos of River and Susan on his desk in the Pilot there is a definite feeling of tenderness and loss conveyed by Capaldi. Now, there is…[Read more]

@brewski: Good for you. thank’s for posting.
I’ve just started reading “Master Humphrey’s Clock” by Charles Dickens. It’s a new on on me, so should be interesting.

@brewski Oh gosh, no, of course not! I see what you mean, and was only saying that it looks to me as if ACD was quite serious about “killing” Holmes. He wrote letters expressing his annoyance at the success of what he regarded as light entertainment, and wanted badly to highlight his more serious work, so it was a he really was trying to get ou…[Read more]

@brewski I would be more convinced that he intended no out if at the end Watson was there, desperately holding onto Holmes, losing his grip and witnessing his fall, and then finally recovering and identifying the body. THAT is the author saying “I mean it. He’s done!” 🙂
Well, yeah . . . hard to argue with that. Perhaps ACD’s intentio…[Read more]

@brewski “How can Sherlock solve crimes without his smart phone?” That pretty much says it all.
ARGH! We’re doomed. Seriously.
ACD killing of Holmes permanently. I never believed it for a minute!
Well, I recall seeing some correspondence from ADC to a friend rejoicing in having finally divested himself of that damned Holmes, and I do beli…[Read more]

@brewski – love that link you make from the mind palace revelations into the 4th wall breaking that has been occuring throughout the series.
i too am looking forward to watching the series in a secondary order if it turns out to be the case that there is a parallel thread concurrently running.
wow – quantum writing. (moffat rules)

@jphamlore In my opinion, the confession dial follows a strategy of Steven Moffat to deliberately rewrite parts of the classic series, a precedent so that his successors can also make each run as showrunner their own.
What a lovely, generous idea . . .

@Brewski – it’s plausible that some of the episodes might have been commissioned for ‘unknown companion’, but Moffat was so very, very keen to get Jenna to stay. I’d have thought he’d have dammed the torpedoes and told his writers to write for CapDoc and Clara.
Looking at the episodes to date while we wait for Face The Raven:
The Magician’s…[Read more]

Just a few more random thoughts and observations before tomorrow and the next episode.
Firstly, the resemblance between the outfit worn by Ashildr/Me in the background of the selfie, and that of Clara’s mother which sharp-eyed @Kharis spotted. It probably is just the writers tweaking our tails – as @pedant said, ‘Beware the chain yank’, and the…[Read more]

If I’ve missed any other cocktail theorists in working through the comments, my apologies.
My original puzzlement over “cocktail” was not just with the word, but with what seemed to me the modern manner in which it was offered to Ashildr/Lady Me, as if could almost have been a moment from a cockta…[Read more] -

@ichabod Does the TARDIS still not like Clara, or was that resolved after Name of the Doctor? And if the TARDIS still doesn’t like her, maybe it is connected to what Sexy knows/perceives/predicts about her fate and the Doctor’s possible attempts to avoid it? She doesn’t like him crossing his timeline, maybe preventing Clara’s death would entai…[Read more]

@jphamlore But above all the episode is about what is just, what is fair, what is balanced. In the end Ashildr decides her role is to try and be some sort of balance in the lives of those who survive the visitation of a demigod the Doctor.

ah @brewski I think the idea that death releases energy (in all episodes so far) and opens up dimensions etc is definitely a way to bring back Gallifrey.
Its almost not bonkers!
Lol… well you may be right! We’ll have to do a lot better than that if we want to be more insane that what’s really happening.
