@DenValdron I feel like youre looking for too many things wrong in the episode. youre reading in to it too much. The Moment opened all three portals on purpose, at exactly the points she wanted to, by looking into the Doctor’s timeline. We know she can do that because thats how she explains looking like Rose. As for what The Moment can do, you…[Read more]

Moffat isn’t just a showrunner and writer, he’s a Doctor Who superfreak, so I could imagine him re-watching old episodes or audio’s, and looking for little plot holes or discontinuities that inspire him to do new things
When NotD was broadcast, I remember having a debate with someone on the G blog about just this. Moffat has pulle…[Read more]

Well this is all really rather fascinating – reminiscent of your first posts regarding trying to place the two Cushing movies into canon.
I realise it’s not everybody’s thing but purely as an exercise in logic and retcon / storytelling, I’m impressed.
However (@Craig also here), this seems perfect for the blogs, if only so it can…[Read more]

@DenValdron Sorry there’s been a bit of negativity towards your posts. I for one really like what you write and hope you will continue to contribute despite the reaction you’re getting from some. You have a thumbs up from me.
Your posts are bonkers and entertaining (everything we want here). I have no idea why some people are reacting as they are…[Read more]

Shouldn’t this be in the
fanwankfan creativity section? Or is that place reserved for slash (I wouldn’t know – it is the one bit of board I never look)? -

I like your (very detailed!!) attempt to retcon the Curse and Scream into canon. Nice one. Tom Baker’s scene at the end of DotD (and the Sisterhood’s reveal of choices available “now that Time Lord technology has moved on”) opens up a lot of additional (now legit) possibilities, and as you mentioned, the fact post War Doctor…[Read more]

@DenValdron– I agree that the aggression and all over badness of the Daleks is essentially a design feature.
But there was the comment in AOTD that the Daleks have become stronger in fear of the Doctor- the ‘predator’ of the daleks- coming from Daleks, that title sounds a little like a compliment.

@DenValdron – i like your theory, and agree with you. my wider point, though, is that the daleks’ hatred of the time lords (and desire to conquer them/kill them all) may have begun with their very earliest defeats by the doctor. and with each subsequent defeat, their hatred and fear of him has grown exponentially, such that they now regard all of…[Read more]

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the French – far from it. It’s just a traditional tease, between former enemies (and occasional allies), like the Scots/English thing. Like Canada/USA?
Ooops, this is how wars start 😉

And let’s face it, to the English sensibility, you can’t get more alien than Scotland or Wales or even (shudder) Ireland.
Ummm… sorry?
@DenValdron, I think you’re confusing the Scottish, Welsh and Irish with the French. There is nothing more alien (to the English) than the French. If the Doctor should ever regenerate as French, the entire…[Read more]

ta for support, but ‘s ok – we were just batting actors back and forth.
But you and @DenValdron both missed the obvious, and the reason I particularly namechecked BC – he was most recently on screen as a certain Sydney Newman! (In AAiS&T)
😀
Re CB – sadly the scripts mostly didn’t allow him to display very much in the way of…[Read more]

I’ll see your Star Wars Ewan McGregor and raise you a Brian Cox

PS Not knocking Lexx btw, loved it, esp first couple of series. (Dr Who isn’t pure sci fi either, but they both include elements of SF)

@badwolfie and @denvaldron – agreed. I think Moffat just gave an explanation for why the Eccleston Doctor picked Rose – but he also gave an explanation why The Momen picked Bad Wolf as her appearance.
Rose, as the Doctor says a few times, is the person who brings him back from the brink. The person who starts the healing process. So she makes…[Read more]

the reality is that the pool of English actors really isn’t that vast, and you do see faces coming back
AHEM!!!!! ::stamps foot::
That’s probably why Dr Who extends its casting hunt to include ALL the UK (3 Scottish Doctors and 1 Irish one so far; no Welsh one yet tho).
Thanks to @WhoHAr and @JanetteB for not making the same…[Read more]

Moffat already said that he got one for Capaldi’s appearance in Doctor Who and Torchwood he will slowly play out.

I think MOffat has already explained the similarity between Capaldi’s doctor and the Roman. Tom Baker says he revists favourite faces in later regenerations, surely that suggests he can revisit faces he has encountered on this travels as well, though I agree with @WhoHar. It wasn’t necessary. Capaldi is an actor. The Roman was a character as is…[Read more]

I don’t think there’s a dearth of really good actors in the UK, quite the reverse.
Anyway, DW has many times used previous bit part actors subsequently in major roles in show. Karen Gillan and Peter Capaldi both in Fires of P…[Read more]

@DenValdron Completely agree: I would love to know if they really were under the shrouds. I’m guessing they weren’t, but how great if they actually were!
