    found it, credit to @fivefaces for the ‘midnight’ theory, over in the ‘thin ice’ thread…

    as to the vault mystery…

    it’s been gently hinted at that there’s something/someone dangerous in there, and i’m now guessing the master (in whatever form*).

    i mean, what do you keep locked away, anyway? a treasure, a weapon, a prisoner… a madman/madwoman? (or all of the above?)

    i still think it could be a future regeneration of the doctor,…[Read more]

    @bluesqueakpip

    Remind you of anyone?

    looks similar to clara, in this pic. and could be a daughter of clara and danny… if danny had lived? (edit: looks very similar to orson, actually? hmmm)

    who does she remind you of?

    @countscarlioni

    That all Bill’s housemates come out of the woodwork at the end?? I thought that was a bit feeble.

    The Doctor wanting to blow something up as first option is pretty unusual.

    as his first, uninformed impression, i totally get this reaction. human colonists on the way, murdering robots waiting for them (the doctor has seen his share of murderous robots), newly minted companion to keep safe (and a promise to get back to keeping). and…[Read more]

    * A rushed and rather mundane resolution- a “reboot” solution isn’t a great one.

    it felt rushed to me, as well, but i accepted it as the least of three evils, the two greater ones being: wipe out the vardy to save the humans (which, if done successfully, would cause the building around them to possibly collapse, or simply doom the c…[Read more]

    @mudlark  (with the eagle-eye)

    It’s The Raft of the Medusa, painted by Gericault in 1818/19 currently in the Louvre.  A bit tricky to make out at first, because it’s been stood on its side and there are various objects in the way, but identifiable if you pause the screen and tilt your head to the left.

    ah, that old thing. it’s over two serie…[Read more]

    I was astonished that you didn’t think these episodes ‘didn’t hold up’ compared to MS’s series

    it’s not intended as a knock against peter, at all, he’s fabulous with what the writers have given him (all the nuwho guys have been equally terrific in that respect). i just think the overall vision of the series was stronger and more cohesive…[Read more]

    i don’t know how to upload a screencapture to this forum, but do any of our resident eagle-eyed art people know what the huge wall painting is, in the very furthest background, when the doctor is on his way to the engine room? (it’s in the scene where he picks up the nefertiti bust…)

    Also for putting up with me writing the word ‘certainly’ to @geoffers three times in as many sentences. I blame youtube! *-_-*

    i certainly didn’t even notice that! 😛

    @thane15

    “hasn’t held up” is just my opinion, of course! i think the writing is still at a high level for capaldi’s run, but even the last smith series started showing some cracks. i’ve always blamed moffat, for dividing his time between who and sherlock, and spreading his genius a bit too thinly…

    but smithdoc had some quite dark moments, too,…[Read more]

    Oddly enough, I am seeing some similarities between Bill and Donna… it’s more like a feel for the show instead of direct comparisons. There is no hope of sexual tension with either, no special powers, a sense of wonder, and both seek out danger with a joy few would have.

    i’m all for this, donna was my favourite companion! i won…[Read more]

    Well, in the moment when the Doctor hesitates as he reaches out to wipe Bill’s memory, the music which we hear is Clara’s theme

    As I have maintained throughout, all the evidence suggests that his memory of Clara has been not been completely obliterated – possibly because the neural block had been configured initially for a human brain, and she m…[Read more]

    i had another thought, about that vault, related to (what the audience knows is) the coming regeneration. given the effect river has had on the doctor, i wonder if he would try to upload a version of his consciousness to CAL, so that they could have a “life” together? so maybe he has CAL inside the vault, to protect her (but from whom, or what……[Read more]

    thank you, puro, it’s so good to be back. have spent most of the past year obsessing over ‘Game of Thrones’ (and the books, aSoIaF), as there was a vacuum in my (who)universe that needed to be filled.  but now it’s time to get back to bonkersizing!

    i agree, somewhat. moffat does tend to go for the emotional moment, rather than the strictly rational, well-thought out plot. the plot holes are less important than the emotional payoff for him, and i’m ok with that. i don’t watch doctor who as a puzzle-solving show, anyway, more as a drama with cool little mind tricks and thinking…[Read more]

    Will Orson Pink ever be explained?

    i thought orson was a descendant of clara and danny (who just happened to look A LOT like his great-great-grandfather, or whatever), who ended up never really existing because missy had danny killed, and turned into a cyberman?

    as much as i loved matt, when peter’s time is up, i’d much rather see (at least) one full season of paul mcgann, to see what he could bring to the show…

    but i’ll be happy, no matter what they do. hell, i’d love to see all three, taking turns crossing one another’s time streams, in a fifteen episode season… would be EPIC, to say the least…
