    Thanks @geoffers

    I’ve spammed them.

    Apologies to everyone for being AWOL but life has kinda got in the way recently. I will get back to normal service before the New Year episode.

    I’m planning an update to the site (as the version of WordPress it works on is out of date). It will probably annoy some but will be a good framework for the future.…[Read more]

    @blenkinsopthebrave and @geoffers

    The not-always-good Captain is front and centre in one of the BBC publicity photos, so it’s now as official as it gets.

    @geoffers @blenkinsopthebrave

    To be honest, the reason given for the original rumour (police box is to be changed because of the way the police are perceived by the public) sounds like something someone’s made up for its click bait value.

    The whole reason the BBC still has the trademark was because the Metropolitan Police lost their case that t…[Read more]

    @geoffers, @bluesqueakpip, I have a bad feeling about this. Somehow, it feels like something Chibnall would actually do–divest the Doctor of a symbol of authority (a police box) just as the last couple of seasons have reduced the Doctor as a symbol of authority, by giving more agency and responsibility to the companions.

  • Bluesqueakpip replied to the topic Dr Who News (4)

    @geoffers

    I suspect it MAY be connected with the Fugitive Doctor/Timeless Child storyline. The Judoon still have that millennia old arrest warrant and a very, very annoyed officer who had his horn removed. So it may be that the Doctor realises that the appearance of a Police Box results in a squad or more of Judoon appearing – and TEMPORARILY…[Read more]

    @thane16 @geoffers @whisht Just been enjoying some Snarky Puppy on BBC Radio 3’s Saturday jazz prog, J to Z, which we listen to religiously.  I was thinking, now where have I heard that name before, and suddenly realised it was in this lovely place!

  • thane16 replied to the topic General Music thread 3

    @whisht

    That’s very interesting! It has a punk feel but it’s the chord structure & refrain which is REALLY interesting. That ‘twiney’ steel sound, lots of heavy bass, a deep voice, niiice chord changes which go somewhere different than you think.  @pedant @geoffers

    I have another ear worm -more so a need to resolve what it is that makes 80s and…[Read more]

    @Thane16 – Puro

    He he – don’t worry – I think we all knew “its easy” was tongue in cheek!
    I loved the wild meanderings my Youtubing and listening took me (much I saved everyone from!) trying to get it.

    And it may shock you to learn, but you could have posted the song as a hint and I still wouldn’t have guessed it!

    @JanetteB that is bloody awful! “Bloody” tends to be quite an Aussie thing, says Thane. I remember various people shouting “bloddy hill.” 🙂

    45 degrees is no joke. It’s not easy to stay cool, here, but you’re far worse off.

    I know Thane purchased a $2 pkt of ice and tipped it the bath to have an ice bath. Yeah, right. The so-called cold tap…[Read more]

    I know! Saying “something is SO easy” is a bit like me saying to Thane “listen, this the ‘doh’ pitch and THIS is the ‘sol -mi’ sound. It’s easy just SING it.”

    See, this is what happens when I try to be funny?  Smiley faces or emojis are confusing. Some people use them first to write “hey, this is HILARIOUS” whilst others add them in…[Read more]

    That’s the argument against a lot of music, isn’t it? Just how impenetrable it can be. Despite trying, JM Jarre wasn’t easy for me. Oxygene’s brilliant. But after 30 mins I panic and freak out. I find the intense orchestration and lack of pitch variation monotonous. Obviously I was hated for this opinion! “Ah, Puro you are SO lite! You…[Read more]

    Ah, TRB, Tran Stacey. Niiice. I mean, Stan Tracey -links with Ambler etc. Very talented pianists. Parents were considered pretty far right conservative in the late ’80s and Ambler  against advice, played for the TRB for a few gigs “just temp, mind, lads, OK?” and ended up staying for awhile

    @whisht That’s a terrific story!  The da-da duh in p…[Read more]

    @Geoffers – a bi late from me but great shout on Lloyd Cole!
    Not that it was likely(!) but what a great call back!

    However – I must take umbrage with “the 90’s weren’t the best decade for music”
    and declare that the 90’s were…. OK and stuff.

    Now, if this became a serve/ return of your 80’s classics to my 90’s then I’m sure you’d win but… hol…[Read more]

    I have heard this too! But it wasn’t a grocery store -or any ‘real’ store but a chiropractor and physio’s HQ. The music they played was that 20th century stuff mum loves. Not nice listening & a lot of screechy violins. Maybe they think if the patients can deal with the music they can handle the pain of a ‘cracked back.’…[Read more]

    Heh.

    The Jessops (photo gear store) in Milton Keynes is occasionally prone to piping out really abstract expressionist jazz – I call the times they do this “We don’t want no steenkin’ customers” days

  • @whisht @geoffers @thane16

    The thing you have to keep asking yourselves is “How likely is this to turn up on a grocery store mix tape”?

  • thane16 replied to the topic General Music thread 3

    @geoffers That’s terrific! I haven’t experienced much ’90s music? But I will now look at much more. Actually Mum would reckon that she’s heard a lot of music from the 90s which she also likes a lot: I didn’t know that! The APP sounds like a terrific band and in listening to some last night (during the tennis) I think it’s like Pink Floyd but not…[Read more]
