I think as you watch this, the combination of Davies and Moffat make the new AG doctor. Up till now it was a tribute act. Now it makes sense and in the Empty Child is genuinely scary.

@miapatrick – Yep, I thought that too but’s then glossed over, and he later picks up the gun, goes outside runs about,  and blasts the admittedly crap snipers and runs back. Now fair enough, it was linking to video games but as I said my worry is that the dyspraxia is witched on and off to suit the situation.

Yes, love The Good Place – I can see it struggle to repeat the consistency of the 1st series in the second one. It uses up philosophy ideas at a quite frightening rate.

I think that Graham was only rubbing his chest after them having to run. I thought it was just a nod to the fact that he’s a bit older and so all the running would be expected to take more out of him, rather than as we often get in TV everyone appearing to be equally fit. That causes its own issues as regards Ryan’s dyspraxia though as I think it’s going to be way too easy for that to be only switched on when necessary

Yes, watched all the series of Line of Duty. They’re currently filming the next one.

 

 

Have had a check through the thread, can’t see any mention of Inside No 9, a couple of the episodes have been as good as anything I’ve seen of late.

TV Channel available on Freeview in UK. Shows an interesting set of old films and TV series, Yesterday had The Ugly Duckling with Jon Pertwee playing a descendant of Dr Jekyll, didn’t get chance to watch, but they do repeat showings usually.

It might have been the big Zinfandel’s influence but I rather loved that. Not one of the ‘great’ episodes but very solid and looked brilliant. As others have noted, the defeat that Jodie Whittaker showed before the TARDIS appeared seemed a bit odd, and out of character, but the reference about the Stenza and the intriguing Timeless Child made the idea of an arc possible without removing that this may still be effectively standalone episodes. It felt more BG Who than it has in a long time.

 

I do wonder if we shall see more of Art Malik.

In part because of the New Who, and the availability of the episodes on iPlayer, I rewatched this. As many people noted, at the time, the idea of Billie Piper seemed odd and a bit worrying but leaving aside my ancient worries, the episode is strong overall. Mickey, both flesh and plastic, is a bit of a disaster. As a character he is so awful that him being plastic makes little difference to Rose.

 

 

Having obviously just watched TGTFTE, and the discussions of death there, I found the indiscriminate death here quite shocking.

Don’t know if anyone watches Talking Pictures TV – if not, I thoroughly recommend – but today they are showing at 6pm UK The Agitator, a once ‘lost’ film starring William Hartnell – and it’s rather good

My first clear memory of Dr Who was the final episode of the The Evil of the Daleks, I had thought that this meant I was 3 at the time but I recently found out is was repeated a year later.

Have posted a hello in On The Sofa. I have just rewatched The Woman Who… and it was worth rewatching. The pace seems tighter the second time, and although the plot holes (particularly timing) get worse, they also get less important. I find it better than most intros, though I still love Rose as a reboot.

Joined up today as I was looking for somewhere to talk about the new series that wasn’t a set of flame wars, and having looked at this site, it seems to allow discussion without being overly combative. As someone who helps run a message board, my hat is doffed for maintaining that balance.

About me: I’m a 50-blah male whose first TV memory is Troughton as Dr Who. I’m not a full fledged geek in my opinion just a long term fan.

I look forward to reading the threads in more detail and to posting opinions on the new series in particular, though having read the very interesting blog on the Moffat years, I may well dip back as well.
