This tee shirt is cool! Are these unofficial shirts that escape copyright? If so, how?16 June 2013 at 20:31 #1238016 June 2013 at 18:42 #12372

15 June 2013 at 18:04 #12326Nice to see Dudley Simpson (the composer) conducting the theatre orchestra.
This episode is clearly the one Gatiss was riffing off with ‘The Crimson Horror’.
Many people cite the Hinchcliffe (& Letts) era/s as the best. That’s partly due to them always running over schedule & over budget. It shows, doesn’t it? David Maloney’s direction is great, especially the film sequences.
Good costume design too, with the most unique of Tom B’s oufits – Sherlock Holmes! (See also – the Snowmen!)
Yes @phaseshift, what Dr Who needs more of nowadays is casual opium jokes! More Limbo-Gas, anyone?
15 June 2013 at 17:47 #12325@doctorcon-1 These are the (seemingly) official uploads on Youtube

Catch them while you can because the channel is gone (but the videos seem to still exist)
As for unofficial postings, I won’t go there – not just because of copyright naughtiness, but that would make them more likely to be pulled. There are plenty of illicit postings on youtube. Start by typing story titles. Others are more cleverly hidden.
Or you can do what I did – Starve yourself for 10 years & pay £15 a go per story until you have them all…

Okay, I’m going to stop now, as this is just turning into ‘Who – The Adverts’…13 June 2013 at 15:45 #12214@$100 just for joy of owning this exclusive cover, most of us won’t be adding this IDW comic (vol 3 #9 Gamestop version) to our collections.
Great art, though.

If the next Doctor is to be Welsh, might I suggest Dai Station, the Station Master from Ivor the Engine.
Then all the enemies & monsters can continue their famous cries of, ”Dai, Doctor, Dai!”

9 June 2013 at 18:28 #12091Welcome to the Forum of bonkers theorising, @the13th.
As I’m sure you already know, your number is far from unlucky and is in fact a magical no.
Does it in fact relate to the forthcoming Doctor or is that a happy coincidence?
9 June 2013 at 18:17 #12089A little bit of Rory Kinnear, who’s so definitely the next Dr, that the Bookies closed their books…
8 June 2013 at 12:28 #12052
Happy 70th birthday to Colin Baker today.
8 June 2013 at 12:17 #12051Well, what do you know? Some journalist must have made that rumour up! What a shocking surprise!
8 June 2013 at 11:57 #12050@pedant I thought that Ms. Hurley’s piece was pretty good. Anyone who knows some true history will be aware that Womens’ contribution to the World has been disgracefully rewritten – and still it goes on.
Inequality remains but the imbalance is gradually improving – and it works both ways – for instance, men are becoming acceptable as nursery workers because one man took action & others followed. We are mostly sheep who follow & this may be an argument for positive discrimination.
Most plebs out there probably don’t know that a Matriarchal society was usurped by a Patriarchal one which has desperately clung to power by dismissing women as ‘the fairer sex’.
And when we say we don’t want a female role model who just acts like a male, we’d do well to remember that women were often more ferocious warriors than the men.
However, I think that Ms. Budd has a point. And I can’t find any factual inaccuracies. What are they?
8 June 2013 at 02:34 #12038Here’s a clip of Domhnall in fetching attire…
8 June 2013 at 02:12 #12037There’s a rumour going around that the BBC will announce the new Doctor tomorrow evening…
http://www.starburstmagazine.com/tv-news/5530-tv-news-doctor-who
If it’s true I think I’d prefer it to be Domhnall Gleeson… He of Dredd & Black Mirror (& Harry Potter).

25 minutes in, you can find a (rather daft) little chat about who should replace Matt in Dr Who.
Worth checking out, just to hear David Mitchell call William Hartnell ‘A doddery old twat.’
8 June 2013 at 00:24 #12033
That reminds me – Troll Hunter is a great film but be sure to watch it in Norwegian (not the dub)…
8 June 2013 at 00:01 #12031A feminist who doesn’t want a female Dr? A considered argument can be found here:
Ms. Budd has a point, though maybe it’s more about a general problem with all of our male heroes?
7 June 2013 at 23:43 #12029
The actress who plays Clara is now called Jenna Coleman. Last month I berated the BAFTAs for announcing her this way – and I’ve only just realised that it’s an official change. So presumably the alteration occurred the day after TNOTD was broadcast.
I must admit that I preferred the inclusion of ‘-Louise’. And JC doesn’t have the same ring to it as JLC either. Perhaps it was to avoid being confused with convicted domestic abuser, Justin Lee Collins?
”I can’t stand the confusion in my mind!”
7 June 2013 at 22:55 #12023…as we all hope, the next Doctor is of the male gender…
???!!!
Is there anything else you can confirm that we all hope?

The Dr’s new greatest enemy? (Please don’t sue me)3 June 2013 at 00:33 #117202 June 2013 at 23:23 #11715
‘It’s started…’Actually my dream Doctor would be David Thewlis. I love him in the film ‘Mr Nice’.
2 June 2013 at 22:37 #11712Okay – I went & watched Skins for the 1st time to see if I like Will Merrick. I really do. It’s mostly to do with his look but he’s maybe got ‘it‘…. He looks exactly like I imagined the Merlin Doctor back in 1989. All he needs now is a camel-haired coat…

Looks like the odds have changed:
2 June 2013 at 20:58 #11698The new Dr should definitely be played by Pudsey from BGT or that dog from The Artist. Otherwise the BBC could be accused of being species-ist. Or by a talking cabbage. Or by some kind of mineral.
Seriously though, the Dr doesn’t have any control over the choice of body he gets. So even though we now know that TimeLords can become TimeLadies & vice-versa, the Dr doesn’t choose. Other Timefolk can control the change but the Dr hasn’t learnt how (yet). Maybe that’s why he’s stayed a Caucasian male every time (so far).
(Why do I I sound like Alf Garnett trying to justify the BBCs bigotry?) (I’m not Gingerist either!)
2 June 2013 at 20:36 #11696@Shazzbot Classic Dr Who stories never had trailers. There were of course adverts for upcoming episodes or indeed series trailers sometimes.
Surely the idea of a trailer is to make the show seem as exciting as possible? How many films have you watched that disappointed compared to their trailers?
You have got a point though… (cut, cut, cut , cut, cut, cut, cut…)
@phaseshift Don’t worry – I’m not quite that depressed. I really shouldn’t joke about depression or suicide.
I wrote (jokingly) about the Samaritans because I had just watched Newsround & they said – ‘ If you’ve been upset by the news of Matt Smith leaving Dr Who… ‘ And I was expecting a helpline number (or something along those lines)! But they concluded ‘…You can always look at our gallery of his time as the Dr on our website.’ And I thought – God – that wouldn’t cheer me up – It would probably make me cry!
2 June 2013 at 18:40 #11689@phaseshift Methinks you might like this: Available to buy from tomorrow (in colour!)
2 June 2013 at 18:28 #11686@phaseshift Cheers – That excellent video took a bit of the sting out of the day…
